2015-2016 University of Minnesota Application Thread

Anyone else accepted at Duluth? I'm deciding between here and another school and would love to meet some other accepted students, especially since it's a smaller program. I kind of wish they had a separate page from the Twin Cities campus lol.

I have an interview at Duluth next Monday. How did the interview go for you? Any hardball questions? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! And congrats on the acceptance!

Had my interview at twin Cities campus today and it was great. The fresh snow meant that several of the interviewers were not there on time but the staff did a good job at rolling with it (ome of whom interviewed me bc one of my interviewers nevery showed up Interview questions were more like typical job interview questions (eg tell me about a time you failed, how did you handle etc). Students were great and the program has tons of opportunities for students. Now we wait 6 to 8 weeks :-/

Super excited to have received an interview invitation this afternoon!
OOS, no ties to Minnesota, Secondary completed 9/9
LizzyM- 60

Congrats!

Anyone else receive an II (or rejection) recently? If so, complete date? Wondering when I might hear back. I'm IS, complete 10/21.

My guess is that you won't hear back until after Christmas. It literally takes almost exactly 8 weeks to hear back. (I am IS and heard back exactly 8 weeks to the day after I submitted and that seems to be the norm)

I interviewed at the end of September and am waiting

thanks! congrats on the II!

honestly, I think the interview depends on whether you're a Native applicant or a resident of Minnesota. If you're a Native applicant, there'll probably be only 2 or 3 of you interviewing and it's very conversational one-on-one interviews with two people. If you're not a Native applicant, I have no idea how the interview is formatted lol.

I didn't get anything I would consider to be a hardball question really, just know answers to common questions (why do you want to be a doctor, who inspires you etc). Ta'c lewei! (good luck!)

Heeyyy question for anyone out there who has been accepted to Twin Cities already...how do we confirm our spot? I paid the $100 deposit and filled out the Accepted Student Survey, but I never received an actual confirmation email. I did receive a receipt for my deposit though.

Check the secondary portal to see if it's confirmed. If not, wait a couple of days and then recheck. I ended up having to call them to get it sorted.

Hope this helps!

Ok so there doesn't seem to be a secondary portal with any useful information. I called Admissions and they said just send the deposit and do the survey and you're in. No confirmation email. Where is this mystical portal you speak of? They sent us the link in what email?

The same that you used to get to the secondary application. After you interview, a 5th point on the checklist will show up stating tuition deposit payment.

It looks like they haven't sent any pre-II rejections since Halloween.... anyone else hear otherwise outside of SDN?

Got an interview invite this week! What a relief! Completed in September, non-traditional, Lizzy M 62.5 (based off conversion from old MCAT to new MCAT), Under-represented minorty

Ooohh I see and that's what warranted a struggle to sort out? Because mine is just a dead end that has a message thanking me for submitting my secondary...I suppose I should get on the struggle.

does anyone know if any post-interview decisions went out last week?

Got the acceptance call yesterday! OOS, LizzyM 73/74, and interviewed on October 26th. Unfortunately this school was a bit pricey for non-MN residents, but I loved it, so we'll see!

accepted on Monday! IS, semi-nontrad, LizzyM 66-69, interviewed in October. prefer to keep things semi-vague here but feel free to PM with questions. top choice, will be attending!

Does anybody know the time frame between when they make a decision on interviews and when they email you? Is it even worth calling in or will they have the same information I have?

my understanding is that the committee meets every other Wednesday and calls Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of the following week. Looks like their most recent meeting was 12/2 since acceptances went out on Monday, so the next meeting will likely be 12/16. not sure how the holidays will affect the schedule, but from talking to other friends who have interviewed, it seems like they're generally keeping within the 6-8 week post-interview timeline.

I interviewed recently and was told that it would take 6-8 weeks to hear back. But i was also told that the committee meets every other Wednesday. Thus i don't think you hear back the week after the meeting, otherwise that means you'd be hearing back 1-3 weeks after your interview. Not quite sure what they are doing with your app between when they had their committee meeting and when you hear your results...

Does that mean the waitlist/rejection e-mails go out Thursday and Friday?

@timsk, I don't think apps go to the committee meeting immediately after their interviews. My understanding is that applicants are reviewed at the second or third committee meeting after their interviews, which is where the 6-8 week timeline comes from. Since 2-3 committee members review the app once interviewer notes are added, some time is required before applications can be considered by the full committee.

@Hashimoto's Samurai, I'm not sure on the timeline of waitlist/rejection emails. Those seem far more variable. I know 2 October interviewees who were both waitlisted by email on Tuesday (so at approximately the same time that acceptance emails went out).

So is there still a chance to get accepted if I interviewed Oct 26th, but still haven't heard? Or am I likely just waiting for the waitlist/rejection e-mail?

I'm sorry -- I meant hearing back for an interview invitation, not post interview.

Ah! Sorry, I misunderstood. Not sure on the secondary review timeline at this point—but seems like 8+ weeks is not abnormal.

I recently II here and they said that right now they are at a 8-10 week review cycle after interviews. So, if you interviewed on Oct 26th, you should be hearing back probably after Christmas because that will be the 8 week mark (taking into account the holiday).

Yeah, you're probably right. I was expecting to hear back around that time, but since a few other October interviews said they got acceptances on Monday I thought they might let all of the October candidates know this week. I guess I wasn't a lucky one...the waiting continues!

Received a secondary from Twin Cities this morning.. I'll probably submit within next couple days.

I think there's still a good chance we could hear back before christmas. I know that if they keep having the meetings as planned, they should have one next Wednesday (12/16) and we could hear back as soon as 12/21.

I sent a message asking about my application... no response. almost 11 weeks since my secondary was sent in....going slightly crazy.

Does anyone know if Minnesota accepts pre-interview update letters?

That is a solid NO. U of MN - Twin Cities does not accept any form of update (no pre- or post-interview updates are allowed). Was told that on II day.

II this afternoon! OOS, complete around 10/6 I think. LizzyM 73.

Congrats! I got an II yesterday afternoon as well. I replied to the email, but haven't heard back. I guess it can take a couples days. Have you heard back from them?

It took me 2-3 weeks for them to confirm my interview date.

I called the admissions office today asking about post interview decisions (I interviewed 10/26) and was told the next committee meeting isn't until the 6th of January. I'm not sure if they had one yesterday but if you don't hear back sometime next week it sounds like we won't be hear back until after January 6th.
