Question... Just submitted my secondary app. How long did it take people to hear back? Also, are II given out AFTER you are notified of any course deficiencies and list your letter writers, or before you supplement the application?

It took them about a full business day to get back to me, but I'm EDP.

I filled out my secondary app, then got an II the next day, then received confirmation of my interview date two days later.

My II was sent before they asked me to list my course deficiencies as well as my LOR writers.

Thank you! Yes, I would imagine yours might be processed a little faster than mine and you deserve it to be, being EDP! Okay, so you got an II before listing course deficiencies and your LOR writers, got it!

It's closed file so it will essentially be "tell me about yourself". Mine started with my interviewer telling me why they do closed file vs open. Then we moved on to biographical information including family and then he went on to college info (where, majors, etc), research, shadowing, volunteering. Very relaxed in my opinion. You don't need to bring up GPA or MCAT because they chose to do interviews this way.

From what I've seen from past threads, UNMC does a very good job of being as quick and thorough as possible throughout this process. Just one more thing to love about this school, I suppose.

If you received an interview as an OOS, you must have seriously impressed the committee. Only 13% of all OOS applicants receive interviews, so you should be excited!

My application just got processed. How long did it take to get the secondary application? Oh and I am IS.
 
Just a few days for me. I added them a while after being verified, but I got their secondary ~3 business days later. They are pretty on top of things from my experience so far.

From what I can tell, format might be slightly different person to person, but essentially it is a rundown of who you are and what you've done.

Consider questions like:
What examples of leadership have you had?
What examples of working on a team?
What three words would someone else describe you with?
Greatest challenge?

Make sure you can articulate who you are, where you're from, where you went to school, what you majored in, significant activities on campus, shadowing experience, volunteering experience, research, etc.

It's conversational for sure. They don't have your file, so its just like meeting someone for the first time, literally.

One thing to add on to what Baxt said, the interview is 30 minutes long.
 
Check your suit jacket buttons before your interview day so you don't have one fall off in the middle of the day like me and then be paranoid the rest of your day that you're going to be rejected because of it lol

Oh and if you decided to wear nylons.. bring CLEAR nail polish for the runs that will almost certainly happen. It happened to me last year just before my interview, and I only brought tan nail polish. I swear nylons can sense your nerves 🙂
 
Just curious, in the secondary portal where it lists what UNMC has received or not received, is anyone else's "Application Fee" still marked as "waiting"?

I only ask because the payment receipt is available at the bottom, but my Fee is marked as "waiting". Is there a different fee or is it like this for all of you as well?

Mine still says waiting. But my letters of rec also still say waiting... Anything I have to do for that?? They are all submitted to AMCAS

All I remember doing for the LOR was listing them on the secondary when we listed our preferred interview date! I think if they sent an interview invite, we must be good. At least, I hope hah.

Hi all! Anyone know when acceptances letter are send out? I am planning on traveling out of the country from mid dec-mid jan. Will this affect me if i am not home to receive the letter/call? Is there a timeframe for responding to them?

Did you apply EDP or regular? If regular, I am pretty sure u hear whenever they feel like it more or less lol.

Regular. Hmmm.. I was reading in old threads that they start to send out acceptances letter in mid dec. is this still true? How long do you have to reply to them?
 
For those that have interviewed here, where did you stay and is there any discounts for hotels?

How big is UNMC on research vs. community outreach? It seems they are trying to be a lot more research oriented?

Also are classes pass/fail all 4 years?

I would suggest the Courtyard Omaha Aksarben Village Hotel, it is not too expensive and relatively close to the med center. Another one would be Colonial Hotel which is a lot closer but not as appealing (may be cheaper too). Stay away from downtown as they are a lot more expensive and traffic can be a pain as well.
 
I'm not really familiar with the new mcat score scale. What's your percentile?

S/he posted on another thread as well with an Mcat score of 183 and then changed it to 483, just like s/he did here. Definitely trolling. The new Mcat ranging from 472-528; which would make 483 the point equivalent to an 11.. Total.

I am super excited to announce that I have been accepted into UNMC's College of Medicine entering class of 2016! I was EDP with a 71 Lizzy M score. FYI, I received notification via email due to delayed snail mail. Good luck to the rest of you! Now onto the next steps of completing my undergraduate degree and succeeding in medical school! And of course getting a selfie by UNMC's awesome stethoscope statue 🙂

Absolutely. It really is an extremely laid back, conversational interview. At least, mine was. I was with two physicians from UNMC, with one directing the interview. Started with, "Where are you from?" and then "Why medicine?" and then from there it was just what I like to do for fun, how I relax, the last book I read, etc. I had no questions about "a time when I showed initiative" or anything of the sort. Someone I spoke to mentioned an interviewer asking for three words their parents would use to describe them. That's the most difficult question I've heard from anyone so far.

Just go in well-rested with a good attitude and you'll have a good day. I'd recommend caffeine. I didn't have any before the day started, and by the end I was completely wiped.

Congrats, friend. It wouldn't feel right if you didn't get in. You've been incredibly helpful on this thread and helped me decide to apply here, and I'm interviewing next week!
