2015-2016 University of Nebraska Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats, friend. It wouldn't feel right if you didn't get in. You've been incredibly helpful on this thread and helped me decide to apply here, and I'm interviewing next week!

I'm glad I could help in some capacity! Best of luck to you next week. I'll be sending good vibes.

And I see you have already been accepted to at least one medical school, so congratulations are in order!

Have any of my fellow EDPers received the official letter in the mail, yet? I've been expecting it, but nothing has come as of today.

Looking forward to making that deposit so it's all official 😉

I just received my package today. It asks for a written letter of acceptance and a $100 deposit to hold a seat.

Thanks for letting me know! I forgot to post, but I had received my packet yesterday! Sent my deposit and letter of acceptance in today!

I absolutely loved this school at my interview last week. Hoping for some good news and to win the lottery so I can afford the OOS tuition.

Glad you liked the school! The OOS tuition looks worse than it is. Many of my friends who currently attend UNMC say none of their out-of-state classmates end up paying the OOS tuition. They are given an in-state waiver (scholarship) which lowers the price significantly.

But yes, without the scholarship, OOS tuition is unaffordable for most I would think. Good luck on those scratchers 😉

For those who already interviewed, not EDP, didn't they mention that acceptances won't go out until december or january, right? All these EDPers are freaking me out.

While I am an EDPer, I can confirm that the earliest acceptances for regular decision go out in December.

Sorry for freaking you out. Just excited to be accepted 😛

Anyone living in Omaha have recommendations for what to do on the day after I interview? I have a full Saturday to check out the city and would love any recommendations on what to see. Thanks!

The Zoo and Fuddruckers was what I went and did after my interview. The zoo was super amazing.

As people have mentioned, try the zoo! it is amazing and enormous--literally takes half a day to see 2/3 of it. Also the downtown area aka old market is pretty active during the weekend so hit it up. They have a wide variety of restaurants-sushi, Mexican, Italian, burger joints and a lot of bars (Omaha has a pretty active night life). You can also walk to the pedestrian bridge from downtown (you can walk across it and you'll be in Iowa) pretty fun if you ask me.

another thing that you could do is go to the Creighton University vs Villanova soccer game on Sat at 7PM. Creighton is rank number 1 in the nation. the tickets are $7 dollars but entrance is free after half time. The games and atmosphere is pretty awesome! Creighton University is also super close to downtown so if you're a soccer fan and are available, I would suggest on going.:soexcited:

So just for clarification, for those who have already been interviewed (non edp) we won't find out until at the earliest December? I thought medical schools typically notify people at earliest October 15th

You are correct. The earliest is Oct. 15th, but they are not required to give decisions on that date. December is what we've been told to expect.

Hello, all! I'm OOS with an interview on November 6. It's my first interview, so I'm a little nervous to say the least. Best of luck to everyone applying!

Good luck this week!! I had my interview this last friday and was a bit nervous but everything went nice and smooth. The interviewer who was tall and intimidating looking was very friendly, the interview was very conversational and nothing too tough! Good luck though!

Thank you! I'm really excited for the opportunity! I know UNMC doesn't accept very many OOS applicants, but I figured I'd put myself out there regardless. That's great that your interview went well---good luck with your results!

I am also interviewing on the 6th, look forward to seeing you there!!

This whole waiting game sucks....

Anyone know how this whole process works? do they meet once a week/biweekly? and send out letters once a month? I totally forgot to ask this during my interview day. 😵

They told us that they aren't meeting very often right now. I interviewed on the 30th and was told that it would take at least a month.

Accepted! Regular decision, in-state, interviewed 10/9. LizzyM 77. Notification by snail mail. They (hilariously) also sent an apology referring to comments that someone from the school made during our interview day, saying that they may have been offensive. Apparently someone complained, though I can't imagine what about. There was a real old-timer alumnus giving a little talk about the school since the dean was not available, and he had some interesting comments, I guess. I personally thought he was hilarious, though.

Congrats!! That was quick! Hope i also hear something soon, i interviewed late oct.

What did the person say that could of have been offensive to some people??

Ohhhh boy. Congrats! I interviewed the same day, and I also got the apology letter. I have no idea what would have been offensive. I kinda liked the emeritus professor who spoke too, he was funny.

What day was your acceptance letter postmarked?

Was the envelope a big one? Hahaha, also interviewed same day! Congrats, hope to be accepted too (eep)

Yeah I interviewed on that date too. I remember him saying something and you could just tell that he was Conservative if I remember right. haha I am with you though, he was hilarious. His speech was actually one of the highlights for me. I just thought he was very honest, relaxed, and down to earth. He made me want to go to Nebraska even more.

UNMC uses the preferred address that we put on AMCAS, correct?

So... anyone know if the lack of mail today should be scaring me as much as it is? interviewed 10/9

Interviewed 10/9 also...but out of state. I haven't heard either, I'm still hopeful though. Also, I'm wondering if it takes longer for OOS applicants.

Do we know if they send out acceptances weekly/monthly/randomly?

I have attempted multiple times this and last week to contact the admissions office (including a call just 2 minutes ago) but they never answered. I am also wanting to know the answer for these questions.

Well I called again and I finally spoke to a lady name Kristina. She said that for some reason their process is super slow right now (idk if they are short staffed or what). Kristina stated that they will be reviewing applications again in late Nov and will be reviewing once per month after that.

I interviewed late Oct so I asked her if my app will get reviewed this month. She said that it depends, they don't go by interview dates, they go by "high profile"- her exact words. Well hope that helps some of you but it also means that if you interviewed sept/oct/early nov and don't hear anything in late Nov then you are not considered "high profile". Great, now I am more anxious than before!

Has anyone heard anything from UNMC after sending in a deposit and letter of intent accepting their offer?

Any post interview OOS applicants hear yet? I'm still waiting...
Waiting as well. Not too hopeful for anything this week, but someone said earlier that they would meet late Nov, so maybe next week?
