2015-2016 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Secondary received and submitted today.
Good luck everyone!

Does anyone know what the out of state friendliness is? Particularly to a california applicant who is utterly sick of this overpopulated, drought-ridden, 105 degree area?

Very oos friendly. The in state pool is very small (second least populated state in murica)

Congrats!!! Complete date? Also, does anyone know how UVM views OOS NE residents?

I was complete whatever day the second became available. Can't remember the exact day.

Congrats on the interviews everyone! I'm still swimming in the small pool and hope some good news comes my way.

II! Complete 7/23, OOS. My portal says I have an interview invite but there's no left-sided "interview schedule" button, although it's telling me to check there for when my interview is scheduled. Did this happen to anyone else?

Does anyone know how to check if you're complete, or if your secondary was actually submitted? I paid, and the money left my account, but I got a message saying they couldn't apply it to my account because of a system error.

What does your status say if you are small pooled?

My status just changed from the supplemental materials received to them now being under preliminary review (which they say might take an additional 6-8 weeks).

Looks like they're going along. For reference, I submitted my app 7/10, but my letters were sent by amcas 7/14.

@MedBlue515 my status just changed to that. It says:

"Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months."

If after preliminary review, you aren't selected to be small pooled, does your status change or does it stay the same old "your file is under prelim review and it can take between 6-8 weeks"?

I'm considering adding this school (a little late, I know). I keep reading that people have "heard great things" about UVM, but I can't really find what those things are. Can anyone elaborate for me?

Small pooled! Just (a couple hours) after the prelim review change.

Congrats to those of you with IIs!

Hello all! Congratulations on your interview invites!!

Here are some interesting figures from last year:

6052 applicants
562 interviewed
??? accepted
114 students.

79% were science majors.
According to the AAMC student satisfaction survey completed by fourth year students, UVM COM grads were 98% satisfied with their medical education. This is in contrast to the national average which is around 91%.

To all, be patient with the application process and do not lose touch with why you are doing this- stay grounded, stay sane. Best of luck 🙂

Do you have to fill out the IS paper work before they look at your application? Or does it not matter?

I believe people stated that you need to fill out the IS paperwork before matriculation. I think it has more to do with tuition than being accepted. Also their website and the portal when I first signed in stated that interviews are held from September to April. Is it weird that they are having interviews August 22nd this year?

small pooled today!
Nice!!

Still anxiously waiting to get past "Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed" ...

+1 hahah dunno if i will ever make it past this status :dead:

Do you guys think that it's worth paying for the secondary for vermont if I have a 6 on the verbal section? I know that they clearly say that anything below a 7 is considered non-competitive, but I don't really know what that means. My overall score is a 31, and everything else on my app is pretty solid. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Any current students explain the format of the interview a bit better? The website says its a circuit...assuming MMI, but can we expect another one-on-one interview as well? Thanks!

Does UVM really stick to its 6-8 weeks to be complete thing?
I don't like the idea of being complete in September. Bear in mind, this was one of the second set of schools I applied to.

It is an MMI, but there isn't an additional one-on-one interview session. I wouldn't stress too much about the MMI though! Just do some practice questions! You also have o sign a non disclosure agreement so I cannot give you too much detail. Good luck!
