2015-2016 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Had my interview yesterday. I love this school! The faculty, staff, and students were very welcoming and the medical school and hospital seemed like an awesome setting to learn how to practice medicine. Can't wait to hear back from this school!

Just stay afloat bud. You never know what may happen

I submitted my application 15 weeks ago and I still haven't been reviewed. What. the. heck. :bang:
Right there with you.... 15 weeks and they haven't even been able to look at my application? This is beyond frustrating 🙁

I emailed them yesterday to see what was up and I was told that they expect my application to enter into the review stage "in the coming weeks". I would just withdraw my application at this point but I'm pretty determined to at least get reviewed. So frustrating. I definitely judge schools now by how non-linear their review process is (and how good interview lunch is).

Been small pooled since late July lol. No idea if or when something will come of it.

Congrats on your acceptance!!!
I interview here on Saturday... any last minute tips? 🙂

I'd love your input too @rocklobstr . Congratulations!

Show your passion for medicine! Review your AMCAS before bed tonight (I like to make one or two talking points/bullet points for each activity so I can just pick up and begin speaking about it)! Smile 🙂 Feel confident because you earned this! Be honest and sincere. Interview them as well! Good luck!

@sylviaplathMD since its an MMI don't worry too much about your AMCAS, just go in there and show your personality and you'll do great! they're very welcoming at UVM 🙂

Hi all,

Sorry for the naive question, but what are the chances of being interviewed after being small-pooled? I just logged in for the first time in a couple weeks and noticed this. Thanks in advance everyone!

That's a tough question. I don't think you are going to find a good answer for this. Just remember that you have a 0% chance of getting an II without entering the small pool.

Did anyone who interviewed already use Uber? Were you able to take it to the interview in the morning?

Sorry for the stupid question, but is the "Last updated on x/xx/xxxx" date on the secondary application portal accurate? I checked the UVM portal last week, but I think I recently moved into preliminary review and I'm not sure if that "last updated" date indicates when I moved into preliminary review.

I think that date automatically updates to the day you're logging in on.

On a different note, I'm having reservations about interviewing here and could use some advice from y'all here.

I've fortunately been accepted to the Medical College of Wisconsin, and after crunching the numbers it appears that I would save maybe 40k or so at MCW compared to UVM (tuition/cost of living at UVM are higher).
My brother is also an MS1 at MCW so financial aspects aside, I would have a nice support system in place going in.

I still have reservations though, because UVM seems like a great school and if accepted after my interview it would be a tough decision. Honestly, if affording my plane ticket to UVM wasn't an issue, I would probably give it a shot anyways, but that's also a factor.

Thoughts?

I thought that might be the case, so I just wanted to ask here and see if anybody could clarify for me! Thanks. If anyone else has any insight into the "last updated" date it would be much appreciated.

Congrats on your acceptance to MCW though! I think you should make a pro/con list about both schools and weigh your option that way. It might help you to have something tangible to look at and think about.

I used Uber in Burlington, but that was to go out and see the city post-interview. I used a free shuttle that was provided by my hotel to get to the interview.

What hotel did you stay at?

Thanks!!

Well I have some time to save up for a plane ticket (interview is in mid January). You're right on having something tangible, which is why I should at least get out there and assess things.

Plus, I shouldn't get too far ahead of myself. I still need to get in (chances are I might end up being waitlisted anyways) and assess FA packages and all that.

Saving up for a plane ticket can be considered a con as well, depending on your financial status! Everything matters 🙂 But it's true that you do need to be accepted to UVM first to even decide where you want to go. I think it just depends on whether you want to make that decision of UVM vs. UCW, or whether you think you will be more financially stable at UCW because the tuition is more affordable. It's always better to have more information before making a final decision though!

Does anyone knows if this school accepts updates? ...at the secondary complete state since middle of August.
