Rejected 🙁 OOS
Am I the only one?
Complete in July. Email, and my portal remains the same.
OOS, still haven't been rejected and v confused. Y'allllll this is silly.
Just called and the super sweet Southern lady on the phone told me, yes they are still giving out IIs, but they are looking to end interviews 3/1.
So people might be called in on 1 week's notice to interview...? lol 🤔
Same... I don't understand why they rejected some people and not others when there's like 10 days left...Absolutely silence since mid-July and it's starting to freak me out a bit especially if they stop interviews 3/1 🙁
Ya I'll wait for second look then. Thanks for all the advice! Super stoked for the fall!med students live in the vicinity of the hospital and medical school, almost everyone is within a 20 minute walk and most live on bus routes. the closer you live, the more expensive it is, so it depends on what you're looking for and who you want to live with. some students don't like living with other medical students, while some want to do that. if you're already really sure that UVA is where you're going, i would recommend looking for housing, as this can be one of the more time-consuming things to do. however, if you want med student roommates, it's better to wait until second look weekend so that you can meet people in person. or wait until the facebook group has a lot of people because upperclassmen sometimes need roommates and you can reach more of your own classmates that way.
So uh... anyone want to live with me next year?
there's gotta be a fb page for accepted students by now, right? trying to figure out housing...!
Housing isn't a big deal - there are plenty of places to live. A lot of students sign their leases sometime between April and June. See the post prior to yours.there's gotta be a fb page for accepted students by now, right? trying to figure out housing...!
the admissions office has very nice people who send out information efficiently and as necessary. there are still applicants being interviewed (as was also previously stated before). you probably won't hear anything all that soon - just plan on being in charlottesville like friday night through Saturday. you don't need to bring anything extra special (besides yourself) and you don't need to be there the whole time or go to all the events if you have other things to do.Has anyone heard anything new about Second Look Weekend beyond the dates (April 1-2nd, right?)?
yes, that's probably the group. you will obviously be added to the group if you were accepted to UVA at some point in the future. plz relax. (also pretty sure i wrote a post about this whole facebook group thing previously.)I found this facebook page:

Idk if it was the ones everyone is talking about. Let me know if you guys apply and get in. Still searching for groups.

houses are definitely tough for being nearby (if that's a priority) - i feel like classmates who live in houses tend to live farther away, and/or moved into them after the first year. it's not too bad if you don't mind living farther away and aren't too far from a bus stop though. as another option - a good bunch of my classmates also live in townhomes mostly on madison ave or preston, i think they're MSC properties but not sure.Haha thanks for the info. Having lived here for almost a decade now, I know most undergrads sign their leases in September of the previous year. So that's why I want to jump on it now. (Especially since it seems most of the available places near the Corner are high-end luxury-style apartments with no character whatsoever, and I'd prefer a house.)
honestly when i was picking a med school this didn't matter that much to me so i'll offer a slightly different perspective. i think other factors like environment, student satisfaction, location, cost, personal stuff, etc are bigger factors. both schools are great - you'll do great at either one. i think the student experience is only as great as the people teaching you and UVA has dedicated faculty and physicians who all seem to enjoy teaching. of course i can't really speak about rochester. i'm planning on doing an away rotation or two if there are experiences i would want elsewhere that i don't think i'd get at UVA. in addition, i feel that in comparison to friends who go to med school elsewhere, i'm the least stressed and feel like i have plenty of time to do non-school things. this is partially because of how our schedules and classes are structured. you can also check out the match lists from prior years - i think students here are getting more than "enough" experience.
class is 8-12 weekdays with the "doctoring" class once a week in the afternoon. i'd estimate less than a quarter of class are required each week, but this can vary either way by block. almost every class is podcasted so students can watch lectures at a slower or faster speed (classes not podcasted include those with graded material and when there are patients). so afternoons are essentially free to space out your studying how you want and if you don't go to class, the mornings can also be free. i personally enjoy this flexible scheduling immensely. it's also nice for other life things, like if you get sick, need to go home for the weekend, go to a doctor's appointment, etc.@unicorn416, can you elaborate on how your class structure affects your quality of life? i remember hearing at interview day that students get a week break in b/t each completed block. However, when I checked the schedule online, this only seemed to be true when it corresponded to traditional academic breaks (winter, spring, etc)
Hey all,
I’ve been offered acceptances at Rochester and University of Virginia (UVA) and would greatly appreciate some insight in helping me decide. One of my concerns with UVA is its relatively small setting (Charlottesville= 40,000. Charlottesville metro=200K; Rochester =200K, Rochester metro=1 million). Is this a big deal though? Is 200,000 “enough” people to get ample hands-on experience? The ER at UVA is 40 beds and the ER at Rochester is 140. Rochester also has 30% more inpatient admissions/year. Since UVA is a great academic hospital serving a large catchment area, I feel like it would draw a relatively large number of patients seeking treatment for rare diseases, which is interesting but not something I want to pursue. I’d love feedback from current students on this.
Anyone know what time admissions decisions are typically released? I know I could easily find this out through the magic of waiting, but I'm feeling impatient today.
They have their own financial aid application and they want tax returns.Question for accepted applicants... is there anything we're supposed to do for financial aid? I filled out my FAFSA but confused if UVA has other stuff we're supposed to do?

Thank you! That helped a ton 🙂
I think we hear back around April 30th if we make the April 1st deadline. Anyone going to second look???? I am super excited. I can't believe it is so soon!Gosh this is a quiet thread 😉
Has anyone heard any financial aid news? I saw last year they didn't get going until mid-April, but one can always hope it's earlier this time.
