Do any of you know how many secondaries vs. interviews VCU extends? I just got a VCU secondary, so can I be assured that they like me and will most probably extend an interview? Or does VCU send secondaries to a lot of applicants and is this really nothing special?

got the 3rd status some time in the last few days, complete late july/early august

They send secondaries to more applicants than they plan to interview.

@mcatjelly finally got the axe from here the other day. Not the best outcome but boy does it feel good to finally have an answer haha

Does this mean my app hasn't been looked at (it seems like an obvious yes but its been 3+ MONTHS)

"Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile."

Has anyone been successful getting status updates outside of the four acceptance days if they call to inquire after a reasonable time post-II (2-3 weeks)?

Did anyone try sending an update letter via email? I tried to use emails listed on the contact us page on their website (http://www.medschool.vcu.edu/admissions/md/contact/) but it doesn't seem like these email addresses are legit...
When I tried sending them an email, I keep getting this message back in my email:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently....

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain vcu.edu by esa8.vcu.iphmx.com. [68.232.135.108].

The error that the other server returned was:
550 #5.1.0 Address rejected.
🙁

I also got that "Delivery to the following recipient failed" email after I tried to email the person in charge of "Status Updates and Questions".

I believe that they spelled her name wrong - you need an extra "m." I did that and got an automatic reply saying that she was out of the office

Gah, I called VCU to check up on my app status (been over 20 weeks since primary submission)... And was told almost verbatim that part of the reason it's been taking so long is that "it's tedious for the admissions committees to review 10,000+ applications."

...sorry? -_-

I mean can you blame them? That's a crazy increase and I'm sure they weren't expecting it... I feel bad for them.

I mean, of course reading applications is tedious! I'm not trying to imply that their job is enjoyable in the slightest. I just know that last year they had over 9,000 applications which is also a very large amount, and they weren't even close to being as far behind as they are this year. And they're not slow with everyone: some people received a secondary or pre-secondary rejection within 2-4 weeks--including those who submitted at the same time I did or even a month after I did. Others, like you, at least heard back within 6-12 weeks.

And really, it's not the fault of the admissions office, and I know that. Obviously the length of time it takes to get reviewed depends on your reviewer, but mine has had my file checked out for months. It's just frustrating that, by chance, I got paired with the one reviewer who has too much on their plate, which means that I likely won't get to even try to demonstrate my desire to interview at my top choice.

I completely agree with you @mcatjelly! I feel bad, but at the same time I don't because they chose to be admissions officers and they can make the best of it if they didn't cuz its always nice to learn about applicants and see what their story is. It does get tedious but its extremely frustrating for us who are waiting where the school we are waiting on could be the only interview and acceptance we get.

Yawn. Complete almost half a year ago..no update. Do we get an email once our status changes?

Are you guys as frustrated with other schools at all? Because to be honest, VCU is the only school that keep me clued into my application. I was outright rejected with other schools, and have yet to hear anything about my application with the remaining schools. At least VCU lets you know your file is checked out and being looked at by a reviewer. VCU has gotten so much hate this year and I really don't understand why as other schools are less transparent about their process.

Honestly, no! Some of the other schools I've been in the most contact with--Sidney Kimmel, GW, EVMS--have been more transparent than VCU. The latter even let me know I had an interview when I called before, I got the email.

I'm sure my frustration has a lot to do with the fact that I really wanted to go to VCU: I love the school itself, the location, and it's a target for me stats-wise. Etc.

That's interesting lol. VCU is the only school that's let me know whats been going with my application consistently. The only annoying part for me was that they waited 2 days before the acceptance date to change my application to a post-interview hold, I had to wait three weeks after my interview for it. I thought I had been rejected. Guess I lucked out. Anyway, good luck to you! I wasn't even offered an interview from EVMS, so nice!!

Thank you! And congrats on your acceptance. 🙂

Are there people here who got the second status (MAY) and have not gotten interviews?

I've had the first status for a little over a week and haven't gotten an interview yet.

Got the don't know when or if we can give you an II status today, after completing in July. A new record of slowness VCU, and that is a tough record to beat in med school admissions.

just got axed from here - they're not giving me a secondary 🙁
good luck to those in the running!

Anyone know if these statuses are in certain order? Seems like people are getting these statuses in random order...

--------------------------------
Application Statuses:

1) "The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date."

2) "The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail."

3) "The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

4) "The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

5) "REJECTED"

1 = best >>> 5 = worst. And they're all in the right order.

Unless you're asking about whether people actually receive more than one of these statuses. . . In which case, no, you only get one of these statuses after the initial review.

Not sure if I understood your issue correctly.

thanks for the clarification. I just wanted to clarify if the status keeps on updating before you get an II but it seems like any of these can turn into an II at any time point.
