2015-2016 Virginia Commonwealth University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thank you! Yeah, it was by email. I got a notice that my status had changed and when I logged in it said that I had been offered an interview and there was an "interview" tab available.

Just curious, are you IS or OOS?

Just had status updated to" The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score."

Fingers crossed this turns into a II!

Are you IS/OOS? If OOS, when were you complete?

IS, submitted 7/23 but it took them foreverrrrrrr to get LOR's for some reason, so reviewed about 2 weeks ago

Hey guys,

Just wondering how quickly you all saw a change in your status after you were complete? My app was in on 8/26 and I'm still sitting on "Complete"

Thanks!

Just got a status change today: they're interested but MAY be unable to interview me. Haha.

What the actual heck? My application was submitted in July and I'm still at complete. Has this happened to anyone else?
I'm right there with you. I feel like Matthew McConaughey watching the videos from his kids in Interstellar when I read this thread. So much happening without me.

All of my letters were in by early July and my application was submitted in July as well. First I never received an email that I was granted a supplemental, and now my application has been just sitting there for 6 weeks. I tried to email using the email address linked in the portal, but I received an automated reply that the email could not go through. I tried to call during their office hours, but no one answered. What is going on with this school?

+4
It was the first secondary I submitted... I even wrote both prompts

+5 except mine has gone from will be reviewed--> under review-->back to will be reviewed

Can't remember if it was this thread or another VA school, but maybe they are processing IS first then OOS? Im OOS as well.

Perhaps, but a bit more transparency would be appreciated. When I called to ask about the supplemental app and figure out why I never received notification that I had been granted one, they were pretty rude and unhelpful. I called because I was genuinely concerned that there was an issue with my contact information or something missing from my application. I almost didn't apply at all because I had such a bad vibe. Now I can't even find a valid email address or get through via phone call to confirm the status of my application. Not to sound whiny, but I'm considering withdrawing. I don't think I could handle this carelessness for four years when other admissions committees seem to sincerely want to help their applicants during this stressful process.

Yes, they give IS review priority. It was noted a page or two back. VCU isn't particularly transparent about it, even when asked point-blank on the phone (in fact, they straight-up lied to me).

Wow yeah definitely understandable why you are considering withdrawing!!

I just interviewed on Monday. Also did their post-bacc. I can assure you the faculty is very considerate. They do need some work in the IT department, however.

You know they give IS priority because it is a public school, but priority doesn't mean that they process IS before OOS. It's probably something along the lines of IS adding points to your priority score. I am OOS and I have a II for October, so they definitely aren't only interviewing IS right now

Most of the evidence here suggests otherwise. I've been complete since mid-July and I haven't even gotten a status update. The vast majority of other OOS students who were complete in July/early August are in the same boat. I've also been told otherwise by a current VCU student.

Now I'm guessing the review priority isn't a hard and fast rule, but it seems to be a fair generalization. Mind sharing your stats/EC's with us mere mortals? Either way, congrats on the interview, and best of luck!

Edit: And, yes I know they are a public school. I'm not complaining vehemently about their policy; I understand they have to do so. I was merely providing a possible explanation to someone else's comment/question.

I concur, I am OOS, got an interview invite for October about 2 weeks or so ago. Was complete second week of July.

I think stats are less important than complete date is. It looks like they processed applications that were complete early July and then took a hiatus when they got into the late July pile.

I was complete July 13th. Still no status change.

I was in by July 6th, still no status change, except the brief period of time where it went backwards!

As I said before though, I am mostly okay with things taking a while. I don't know, nor will I ever know, exactly how the adcoms at every school work, and at this point worrying too much about it we here or a week there is just stressing me out rather than accomplishing anything. If I'm going to get in, I'll get in, it doesn't really matter whether I hear back now or in December or even in February!

see my MDAPPs. LizzyM 73.5

I'm right around there as well with a MCAT of 36. Average EC's for tier 1 schools, strong EC's for mid-tier schools. I'm from Cali, dunno if that makes a difference. I'm seeing tons of IS being reviewed before myself and other OOS applicants.

Like someone else said, there's not much use in speculating. Just throwing my 2 cents and stats for comparision out there.
