Is this wait list info accurate?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think this is fairly accurate. Historically roughly a little less than half of the matriculating class comes from the waitlist and the OOS waitlist generally has more movement. That being said, it still varies year to year and sometimes they don't make it as far down their waitlist as they have in the past and this might be the case as the years go by given how the competition increases year after year all over the country. (and if you're wondering how I know this, I may or may not have been involved in helping to choose the class of 2019 😉) - EDIT: I should read more closely, I don't know how many people they actually place on the waitlist (I definitely think it's way more than 100) so i can't make a comment on that, but the accepted off waitlist seems about right, I'd say probably around 80-90 people of each matriculating class is from the waitlist.

Finally let go! At least their rejection message was nice 😉 good luck to everyone still waiting!

Application Status

Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. The overwhelming numbers of applications have made it simply impossible to interview all of the candidates who may be qualified to attend medical school. At this time, we are out of interview space and regret that we are unable to interview you.

The review of your file indicates that you have some fine qualities. While we are unable to interview you this year, we would suggest you consider reapplication if you are not accepted to another medical school. Reapplication should occur only after consideration and consultation of how to strengthen your profile.

We recognize and regret the disappointing nature of our decision and we wish you the best of luck in your future plans.

Me too! I didn't get an email but I checked the portal and found this message. Was on pre-II hold.

What's the scoop with the second look? Are applications of people getting invited for a second look ranked higher/ more likely to get accepted?

Has any OOS/west coast applicants received an invite to second look?

Why does it take this school so damn long to do anything? Just tell me if I'm on the WL or not.

does anyone know approximately how many people are rejected post-interview after being put on hold? praying i make it to the waitlist...
according to MSAR, they interview ~975 people. and according to the new waitlist information quoted in this thread, only about 100 people make it onto the waitlist. yikes?!? am i missing something here? i guess im assuming that only a fraction of the people that get interviewed are rejected outright and not placed on "hold" post-interview.

I think I remember hearing that they accept about 400 people a year (including those accepted from the wait list). So assuming that 325 of the 975 have already been accepted, that leaves 100/650 chance of getting on the wait list.

These are my crude estimates, so feel free to check my math.

duh, forgot about interviews leading to acceptances (i wonder why, haha).

even still, 100/650 is a bit scary.

Boo VCU for giving me the first priority status two weeks after wrapping up their interviews. I called to follow up my application two times and both times the admin were not helpful at all. I am certain no one reviewed my file until the very last month. Submitted August. Anywho...

i'm in no way optimistic, but these numbers seem way too low. at my interview, the dean said that they accept approximately 50-70 people on each of the 4 acceptance dates, which means that at most ~275 have been accepted so far. why are we assuming 325? maybe i'm totally wrong but on my interview day i was told multiple times that they only accept to fill the number of available seats before the waitlist is formed, and that they make anywhere from 100-150 acceptance offers to those on the waitlist depending on the year (to total ~400 total acceptances). this has been confirmed by current students on previous VCU threads over the past couple of years as well. it doesn't really make sense that the waitlist would only be 100 people when the class size is over 200 and many accepted applicants (especially OOS) will end up choosing other schools. i was under the impression that the waitlist was closer to 250-300 which hopefully gives us a slightly better chance of at least making it to the waitlist.

at this point, who knows though. good luck to all!

I hope the wait list is that big but the MSAR numbers are reported by each school individually...maybe they meant that 100 acceptances are given to wait listed and that only 75 accept them? Idk lol...does anyone know what time wait list offers go out? I'm assuming 6:30 eastern?

Somewhere around 6:30 EST. I hope it's today, but it could be anytime before the 31st.

Rejected two days ago but got that status change email today. Oh well!

I applied two years ago (finally accepted this cycle) and I was placed on the waitlist. Obviously I never made it off, but when I spoke to admissions, they told me that the waitlist is long enough to fill the class over a couple of times. So the waitlist is probably made up of about 400-600 people or so.

Don't know if that is good news or bad news...

Got rejected today. The status change said something about all the interview slots being filled up. WHY DON'T YOU JUST TELL ME THE TRUTH WHICH IS YOU PROCRASTINATED AND NEVER GOT TO MY FILE?!

I am going to europe for about 2 months (may-june) and I am hoping this doesn't create a conflict if I get WLed and eventually accepted!

School would start in July so it wouldn't - but you will have to get shots, basic lab work done, etc. so you would need to figure out when you are doing that

Wait why are people saying school starts in July? Won't it start in August after orientation... And where are you guys getting the August 1st date?

I think I saw that date (albeit very small and fuzzy) here:

I have no idea but it's there.

I assume people are talking about July because I believe orientation was in July last year...due to a bike race in Richmond?

Yeah, if you look at past academic calendars the usual start date is very beginning of August (including orientation).

I was offered an alternate position a few minutes ago but chose to withdraw. Good luck to everyone else still in the running!

Alternate list as well with an email regarding a status update
