2016-2017 Albert Einstein College of Medicine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Same. Apparently that's the status quo. Hopefully that doesn't mean no one has looked at our apps until now!

Wtf, I just got a complete email when I submitted my application in the beginning of August.

If you take a peek into the thread from last year you'll see that Einstein consistently doesn't have their stuff together and is late throughout the entire cycle. It is rather frustrating.

I was completed early August and I emailed them early Sept to be like what's good with that complete email and they immediately emailed me the complete email that day. Very strange

I understand that some medical schools are faster and slower than others. But I actually got a "complete email" from Einstein a couple of days after I submitted my secondary application. Here are the exact words from the email, "You have successfully completed the Secondary Application...". I took this to mean that I was complete and didn't worry about it. If I had known that I wasn't actually complete, I would have contacted Einstein earlier to see what is going on. I never had a great chance at Einstein anyway so....

"You have successfully completed the Secondary Application..." doesn't mean your application file is complete. Just that your secondary is complete. If you read through the thread, Einstein has a significant delay between secondary submission and sending the application file complete email. It may not necessarily mean that they haven't looked at your app, and even if they haven't looked at it yet, they interview through April. They interview over 1000 applicants. Chill, it's only September.

Hello current applicants, this is probably pretty late but if you have any questions about Einstein, I'm a current first year and would be happy to help as I am procrastinating studying for a quiz. 🙂 I'm just starting to get used to Einstein so I may not have all the answers, but let me know if you have any questions about campus life or first year. I've seen some of you around interviewing already so that's exciting.

Any interview tips? I know others have asked but everyone's experience is a little different.

My biggest tip would be to know why you want to come to Einstein, especially as opposed to other NYC schools. I'm from out of state and got asked this, answered vaguely, and then got asked it again until my answer satisfied. Read over Einstein's website, talk about what you like about our curriculum and programs and why it would fit what kind of doctor you want to be. I spoke about the global health opportunities and how that really fit my interests, but there are any number of ways to do it. Maybe you come from an underrepresented background and love Einstein's dedication to equality. Maybe you want to serve a great and diverse community like the Bronx. Maybe you've heard about how the school is pass/fail and the students are so collaborative and what a great learning environment it becomes.

Other than that, try to act like a person and less like a robot. It's super hard at interviews, I know. This was my 6th and last interview and by that point I think I was so done with structured questions and just tried to be myself, which I think helped me. The interview day is really nice because it's the most relaxed one I've been to. The admissions staff is so nice, make sure you take advantage of them if you need anything. They don't have any specific interview day program where you sit in a room and get lectured at, which I liked. The school really speaks for itself without all that. I haven't heard of anyone in my class who had a bad experience interviewing here, so just be calm, curious, and real and you'll be fine. Ask your interviewer questions, they love to talk about themselves. Good luck!

On a side note: after sending an in the area email, I got an interview. So feel free to do that if you get an interview at another NYC school. I did interviews at Cornell and Einstein in 2 days.

I understand, I thought that email was a complete email too, the only reason why I knew otherwise was because of this thread.

Thank you, this is very helpful! Don't know if you had a background in research as an undergrad but is that something I can expect them to ask me about?

It will probably vary with interviewers, but I would definitely be prepared to give a summary of your research project, and emphasize your contributions. It's a good skill to have to be able to explain difficult concepts quickly and concisely. I did not have a biomedical research background (my research was in primate behavior, lol) and I don't remember if I was specifically asked about it here, but definitely at other schools. If it's on your application, they can ask you about it, so another piece of advice I would give is to know what you wrote and be prepared to say more about it. This can be hard if you're interviewing in February, like I did, and you don't remember what you wrote last summer.

Hope that helps.

It does, thanks again!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. Did anyone with a 512 MCAT get an interview so far? I'm not racially under-represented, but definitely ethnically. I'm not sure if that counts though. My breakdown is 127/131/127/127

Thanks for replying! Are you a URM by any chance? Congrats on the II!!!
Not URM, just decent MCAT, GPA, and a generally well rounded application. There's hope, my friend 🙂

Huh I submitted my secondary a few days ago and got a confirmation from them right after so that is weird that it is taking people weeks to hear back.

Did you get a secondary complete email or an application complete email? Secondary complete comes quickly in my experience, application complete took nearly a month.

Both.

Hello everyone, just had a quick question, does the admissions committee accept letter updates about activities that have happened after your application was completed? thanks!

Yes they do. Just send it to them via email.

Me too... waiting for complete email. They are painfully slow.

Not sure if they're slow or just highly selective based on stats before even completing applicants to be reviewed... Highly inconsistent processing times and different responses to phone calls really bring questions into light. I'd understand different response times from completed apps, but this is pretty ridiculous. I paid my app fee! COMPLETE MY APP :yeahright:!

II today, complete technically 8/9 but got the complete email 09/01

O hey everyone! Guess who just got a completion email 😛

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE APPLYING!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE IT HERE, FEEL FREE TO ASK ME QUESTION.. ACTUALLY WAS ON THE TOUR GUIDE FOR TODAY'S BATCH OF APPLICANTS... STARTED TO REMINISCE & WAS LIKE AHHHH LEMME GO ON SDN & SEE WHATS GOING ON LOL

Pretty much, yeah. Einstein waitlists wayyyy more people than most schools. I was placed on the HPWL and accepted a few weeks later.
