2016-2017 Albert Einstein College of Medicine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There is a merit award called research and service that ranges from 10,000-40,000. That a good number of SDN members always report getting over the years even people who were previously waitlisted.
Is that 10-40 k each year?!!

I can't say for certain. But I have tracked down post from previous SDN members who have reported these numbers in previous years. The question of if this is the same every year I doubt anyone can answer but the financial services at AECOM.

Edit : I think I misread your post. The amount that the scholarship offers is different for different people but I see it vary from 10,000 up to 40,000. Depends on how attractive of a applicant you are to them I guess.

Seems like AECOM is working the waitlist a little differently this year without HPWL, but does anybody know if serious waitlist movement will start around the same time as last year (early April)?

None of us can tell. Normally albert einstein would have accepted more people directly or via the waitlist by now (as per SDN reporting ) but it all seems to be going slower this cycle so it's hard to tell. But historically this school has good waitlist (HPWL) movement. When this movement will happen is hard to tell because their timeline seems to be off from previous years. Just have to sit with your butt cheeks clenched tight.

Financial aid packages are out- are merit scholarships included here?
Did you get it via email? I didn't get mine yet, and have been anxiously awaiting it..I was accepted beginning of March. Are you happy with it?

From previous years it was stated that the financial aid package only include the need based aid which was normally couple thousands of dollars(think it was stated that 12,000 was the max). The merit scholarship goes out separately and is where the big money (up to 30,000 per SDN reporting ) are given out

People who have upcoming interviews -- how late do they run, and when did you get your invite? Still waiting to hear back, silence since September. Just wondering if I should give up hope or not.

I just hope that the Merit awards are given
out prior to having to make decisions about other schools. Do you know if the Merits are given out prior to May 1?

For the people who are accepted already yes , it has always gone out before the deadline
And for people who are accepted after the deadline they normally give you the financial aid info the day after they accept you without you needing to do the financial aid question sheet. (Don't quote me on this I only saw this happened a few times in the past years)

Last year, there was a big wave of acceptance from waitlist at the beginning of April. Hopefully we will hear something next week.

Do you think it's possible that they're waiting for the national acceptance report to come out to release/make decisions?

This would mean waiting until at least April 30th??????
Maybe the National Acceptance Report wasn't what I meant to refer to, but after April 1, the medical schools can see all schools at which you have been accepted including those from which you have withdrawn after acceptance. That is what I was referring to. So tomorrow.

Ohhh ok. I think Im the one that got confused, im thinking of April 30th being the last day for people to hold multiple acceptances. Well I hope your hyposthesis proves true!

I think that's only if you have been accepted or waitlisted at the school (i.e. a decision was already made). If you are accepted to School X and waitlisted at School Y, School Y will see you are accepted to School X. If you are waiting to hear back from School Z, School Z doesn't see anything until it's made a decision regarding your candidacy.

Accepted at School X
Waitlisted at School Y
Waitlisted at School Z

School X sees you are not accepted elsewhere. School Y and School Z see you are accepted at School X. Nobody can see where you were waitlisted.

Correct me if I am wrong?

You think a school of AECOM caliber would make much of the National Acceptance report ?? Its a higher up school so I would assume it has over the years accept very attractive students who have other acceptances

No every school you apply to can see where you are accepted to now

But at the same time then I'm sure there are many applicants who are holding acceptances to top-20s that also interviewed at Einstein, so this could go either way.

I guess it really doesn't matter, I just hope its true because I am on 3 WLs from my only other 3 II's w/ no acceptances right now.

Another reason that led me to believe that this could be the case is Einstein is traditionally a school that interviews an extraordinarily large number of applicants. We have seen some change to the process this year with the removal/lack of transparency behind the HPWL, so its certainly reasonable that they are changing other things as well. One of these things could be using this National Acceptance report to make less work for the school. By accepting more people who are more likely to attend, they can make that large interview number more manageable. This would also most likely lead to a smaller waitlist, which the removal of the HPWL would also jive with.

Yeah but this has been true for years, but the SDN acceptance reported is lot less this year especially from mid January and February people . I dont know man

Yeah, I don't know what to make of it either. Again, just hopeful speculation with some circumstantial evidence given my situation.

This only makes sense if Einstein is a school like Drexel or Temple who will lose alot of students to other school. I doubt Einstein will worry much about students with other acceptances . Just my theory and I hope you get some love off of a waitlist soon!
