2016-2017 Boston University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got the II!! 😀

quick question: in the email they said that they would appreciate updates to academic work. The classes that I ended up taking this semester are slightly different from what I indicated my academic plans were when I filled out the primary app. Is this the type of update they would be interested in? Or only if you have recent grades?
Congrats!
when were you complete?

Just to add to the whole "email" thing. I received one yesterday and I was completed mid-Sept. So, I think everyone receives one once you reach a certain time frame of being complete without any decision.

But I was complete early August and I still haven't gotten an email... /panicking continues

For a minute I thought you'd solved it but... I think we're still in the dark haha.

Whoops, I apologize then. I too thought I figured it out. Let the speculation continue...

You may be on to something, though... I think maybe not receiving the email means you are currently in an active state of review, and receiving the e-mail means your application hasn't yet been distributed for review.

But who knows!!! Not me!

If anyone is interviewing 11/4 and wants to meet up 11/3 (or 11/4 PM) for coffee/dinner/drinks/exploring Boston/etc, let me know!

anyone know what percentage of interviewees are accepted? since this info (total acceptances given out) is not on MSAR.

Yes I'm very curious about this to
There was a reddit thread with this information for a bunch of schools from US News&WR. It said that 41% of interviewees were accepted.

Here's a link to the thread

without any actual evidence to support this claim, i feel like 41% sounds too high

41 Might be a little on the higher side because of BUs 2 programs that provide early acceptance into their med school for BU undergrads

It's post interview. Because interviewees can hold acceptances at multiple schools (until April 30th), schools generally have to accept 2-3x the amount who will actually matriculate. BU reported that last year they interviewed 1071 and accepted 446, although only 180 matriculated. That's a post interview acceptance rate of 41.6%, even though only 16.8% of interviewees matriculated.

Some schools have an even higher post interview acceptance rate (northwestern is around 75%), while some schools have a much lower post interview acceptance rate (Harvard is 27%, UPenn is 28%)

That penn is U Penn right not penn state

Wow so it wouldn't be a that much of a stretch to be accepted!?

Thank you, I assumed as much do you know if they have any info on Penn State I cant find it anywhere.
According to that reddit thread, there is no reported info for PSU (meaning PSU did not report that info to US News&WR ). Sorry! You might have better luck posting in their school specific thread, as a current student may know

Rejected. LM 72, complete early August. The wave is about to begin...

Complete 9/13. Received The Email on 10/28. Waiting shall continue..

Can someone explain what the distinction between round 1/round 2 is?

Just interviewed and want to provide some guidance:

Interview itself is 1-on-1 with a faculty member on the admissions committee - they know your file beforehand, very conversational, and the rest of the day is spent touring the facilities and is a very low-stress day. Dean says that about 1/3 of the class will be filled by Jan 5, many will be deferred to the second batch of re-reviews where the next chunk of interviewees will be compared, and in mid March about 2/3 of the remaining class if filled.

Reeejected... LizzyM 78.6 Complete mid-August. Don't care that much about this one. Hopefully some other schools will come through but I'm mystified by all of this. Does not make very much sense. Good luck to those still in the running.
