2016-2017 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to everyone on the acceptances! I just got an II. Quick question, what do these interview days look like? When do they start and when are they finished? I am trying to figure out my travel schedule. Thanks for any feedback!
Interview starts at 9 but make sure to be there by 8:45 for check in. I remember someone didn't show up until 8:57ish and I guess they called him looking for him to make sure he was still coming. I flew in the night before and stayed with a student host which are made available to all interviewers as long as it isn't a test week for them. I think we were done by 3:00pm but you will for sure be out by 4pm if you want to give yourself a little bit of wiggle room! Let me know if you have anymore questions! Interview went well and everyone was SO nice. Girls make sure you wear semi-comfortable shoes because you will take a tour of the school 🙂

"Your file is currently undergoing a review by our committee. Thank you for applying to Loyola University Chicago-Stritch School of Medicine."

Is the consensus still that if we see this message and not the "on hold" one, they haven't actually looked at our file yet?

I'm not too sure about that, but fwiw i had the same msg on my portal since july and got an II recently

Thanks for the input @Soccer55 ! Any other tips on how to prep for the interview?

I know you probably hear it a million times but really just be yourself. I loved my interview at Loyola. Loyola was my first interview and it really couldn't have gone better. Everyone from staff to medical students were so so friendly. Everyone is willing to answer any questions you have. You will get so much information it's awesome! I prepped by doing a lot of mock interviews, both in person and just over the phone. I think really just answering a handful of questions and just brainstorming ideas helped me tremendously!

Thanks! =) The campus is amazing and I'm super stoked for my interview!

How many students does Loyola typically interview? MSAR numbers seem inaccurate, it says they only interview 480 and that 345 are instate and 135 are out of state. And that 94 out of state matriculate out of 135 interviewed. Could that be true?

Interviewed early September and got a status change today -
"Thank you for your interest in the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. Your file has completed review and will be given additional consideration throughout the duration of the cycle. We highly recommend that you upload professional and personal development updates to your file when applicable."

Not too sure what to make of this - will continue to update and hopefully hear back! If anybody knows of how past movement has worked from this status please let me know!

I interviewed in late September and have this same message on my portal but was told on interview day that I would most likely hear back in December so maybe that is the case for you as well?

I don't have this message and interviewed 9/15. It still says "Thanks for scheduling your interview."

Does this mean I haven't been discussed yet post-interview? Or does it mean rejection. I'm so confused 🙁

That's the same for me! I am a little confused because I'm pretty sure they said on the interview date you would still have an update if you're rejected or on continued consideration. Like it would say REJ for rejection and CC for hold. Which would be nice because I don't know if it's worth sending updates or not

I feel like it makes sense if you think about tuition. If you are instate and get into an instate school and Loyola, maybe you would pick the instate school because it is cheaper.

That is pretty confusing but I don't think it means rejection? Maybe the reviewers assigned to your file haven't completed reviewing it yet? They mentioned at the interview that it really depends on how quickly your reviewers get to your file.

Edit: I interviewed on 9/27

I interviewed on the same day. Still waiting to hear back!

On 10/14 they told us it was too close to 10/17 and the next time they'd be releasing decisions is 12/15. Are you guys sure that doesn't apply to 9/27 as well?

On 9/15 interview they told us we would either be accepted, continued, or rejected (I think?) on the 10/17 date. But I would imagine this does only apply if your interviewers can make it to the meeting to complete review. I know both of my interviewers are extremely busy, so maybe they just haven't reviewed me yet post-Interview. Really hoping its not rejection!

I'm probably going to call Thursday just to ask so I'll let you know what they say! I interviewed 9/13

Went back and checked this against my own spreadsheet from last edition of MSAR and apparently they had interviewed 571 out of 7711 OOS?

I'm a little confused as well but the numbers don't seem quite right. The retention is VERY high (as in, even if they accepted all those they interviewed from OOS, 94 / 135 = almost 70% chose to attend Loyola), which doesn't make too much sense to me. Of course, it's possible that they were just amazing at selecting who they wanted to interview and everybody wanted to attend Loyola over anywhere else ... but the MSAR is likely just a bit off 😛

also on the "haven't heard anything" train and I interviewed 9/8

and congrats!!!! @SirCardiac So happy for you! Loyola is great!
Yeah, I got an acceptance call today! Although we were told that our batch of interviewees weren't going to get a decision until Nov-Dec at the interview, I was told today over the phone that some students are being sent acceptances earlier.

Wow, amazing! That gives me hope, but maybe I shouldn't be so hopeful!

Starting to think that my lack of status update post 9/15 interview is indeed a rejection.

That is strange. I interviewed on 9/20 and got accepted on the 17th of October. Maybe your interviewers are slow and haven't talked to the admission committee?

XD Why'd you interview then? Congrats on your acceptance hehe 🙂

Its either that or a silent rejection, I think, because I haven't been continued either. But I can't remember what they said at the interview regarding rejection timing. Are those held until the end?

If you aren't accepted, you'll be put on continuing review until the very end. I'm pretty sure they just haven't gotten to you yet.

To add to this: gri, when I was scheduling my interview, there were some dates last week as well as next week. I am sure the admin are busy scheduling interviews as well as sorting interviewees out.

Congrats!! Guess I'm still on hold until December.

Congratulations to those who have received acceptances! Definitely a wonderful school.
For those of you who were accepted - Did you submit an update letter? Or did you not do anything post-interview?

Hi friends! Just got an Interview Invite and trying to decide if it's worth the plane ticket to go... I was looking online and Loyola is unranked? I know that's not a good way to compare schools, but my MSAR just expired and I was wondering if someone could tell me what's amazing about this school and why it's worth it (or not).

It's up to you to decide if the school is "worth it." Don't come to the interview if you don't want to go to the school. Simple. If you hold an acceptance from a school which you would attend over Loyola then give the interview spot to somebody who deserves a chance at the school.

Although I would benefit from you foregoing your interview - you shouldn't attend if you would not attend Loyola even if given a full scholarship.

As other's have said - you earned your interview (and potential acceptance) so it is your right to attend as many as you'd like! At the end of the cycle, if you're lucky enough too hold multiple acceptances you will have multiple financial aid packages and subsequently various outcomes when it comes to your debt burden. This is an important factor when it comes to decisions you'll make regarding lifestyle choices, specialty decisions and potentially even where you take your first position as an attending!

Thank you! Definitely report back !

I just got off the phone with admissions! The woman I spoke to said if the portal didn't update, they are discussing you at the next meeting. So I'm not entirely sure if that means we were already reviewed and are now "on hold", but the way she phrased it made it sound like they just haven't discussed some people yet! Hope this helps, good luck to you!!

Awesome, thank you so much for calling and letting me know what you learned! I feel better now.
