I think it's possible that they do yield protection, but if you make it clear that your interest matches their mission in your application or in letter of update/intent, they will consider you positively. Not everything is about numbers you know. LizzyM of 80 with heavy emphasis on community health, serving the underserved, etc will be a better fit for UCI than LizzyM of 80 with first author publication in nature, PhD, etc.

Didn't get any word back from this site. What I wound up doing is using my anatomy/physiology class as the "upper-level" biology requirement. UCI did list that as an example of an upper level bio class, so I'm hoping that it will fly. And then I used my biochemistry class with the chemistry requirement section.
 
Rejected last night post secondary 🙁 OOS LizzyM 72-73 complete 7/24. Irvine is such a nice city but I guess it's not meant to be for me. Good luck to everyone!

oh wow, I can't believe they are already review apps submitted three weeks ago. I am sorry 🙁
I submitted a couple days after you and am preparing myself 🤔
 
Does UCI re-review apps periodically throughout the cycle (official or unofficial hold) or will they simply either reject or II after going through an app?

They revisit apps like most other schools if you're borderline.
 
question with the pic. do they mean the file has to be so that when they print it it is wallet-size, approximately 2” x 3”? kinda confused

received an interview invite today! 🙂 submitted secondary last week, so i'm rather surprised at the fast turn-around
 
I received an email that my AMCAS was received on July 16, but haven't heard anything from UCI at all since then.
 
How long did it take for UCI to get everybody's LORs? I sent my LORs to them on AMCAS 8/9, but my portal says UCI hasn't gotten any of my letters yet.

it took them a few days to download my letters. since you submitted your LORs a little later in the cycle than I did, they might just be backlogged with applications and haven't reached yours yet

i actually had a similar problem with my letters... my letters were received but my application nor letters section were marked as complete. I called them and they told me to send them a message about it via the portal and all solved 🙂
 
is there a portal to check your status if you haven't received a secondary? couldn't find it in my applciation received email...

The portal I know of requires a password that they send you once you receive a secondary request. I don't think there is another one.

right. but everyone whose reported getting a secondary got it immediately after their amcas was submitted. which is automatic in the same way that davis' is automatic.

if you didn't get one immediately, the message you receive is that apps are reviewed through february. i'm wondering if anyone has received one after that email.

I received secondary from UCI two weeks after my AMCAS was verified. I don't think secondary invite is automatic at UCI.
 
MSAR indicates that UCI only sends secondaries to screened applicants.
 
If you match a GPA/MCAT cutoff I believe it is automatic since people have gotten it at like 4am right after they applied.

If you dont pass that then you have someone look over your app to decide

i think i really fit their mission but im not sure whats taking them so long :/

is it bad to call them to check on my app?

i would sit tight - i received my secondary a month after i was verified so i'm sure yours will come in the next couple weeks!

Wow pretty early. Sorry about that bud. Hopefully this means a batch of interviews is coming soon though. I'm itching for a UC interview! And it seems like it's be quiet here.
 
Posting to get some second opinions or to see if anyone else is still missing out on their secondary. I was verified early June, application received email on July 15th, no secondary yet. This is my third time applying to Irvine, and my last 2 cycles I received their secondary immediately following verification with a 3.4/34. My app has since improved and I now have a 3.5/521 with a 4.0 post-bacc, but no secondary yet. Is there any point in calling and asking or should I just continue to wait?

It may just be because it's your 3rd time applying.
 
i've called their admissions office several times but no response
i got the email acknowledging my primary on 8/11 but no secondary yet :/

what do you think a phone call will help? its a holistic screen, buddy. hang tight and stay optimistic!

That's good to know. Can anyone else confirm this 3rd time app thing? If that's the case, I really wish they would just say it instead of having me waste my money. I don't know if any other UCs that do this. I already have secondaries and an II from the other UC med schools. I still hope to get one from Irvine though.

were you a third time reapp to those schools as well?

like i said, i don't know how much truth there is to that. i would think they'd just reject you right away if that was the case since they have sent rejections, i don't see why they'd be shy to do it to 3rd timers if that was truly their policy

I've gotten secondaries from UCSD and UCR so far, so im hoping the other UCs will come through soon as well 🙂

I bet you could find the policy if you dig a little on their websites. I know on a few secondaries I saw it, but not all. good luck to you though!

Haha okay well then there's hope for me then, I guess, though it still has been quite awhile, I was verified ASAP. I'll just back off, try and get it off my mind, and wait. This is such a mysterious and unpredictable process.
 
What is this schools "mission"? What kind of students are they looking for?
