How is the Spanish interview? Is the entire interview conducted in Spanish?
I think it varies. My interview was a pretty fair mix of English and Spanish, but I've heard others say theirs was mostly Spanish and even others say there was just a few minutes of Spanish. So it really depends. The goal is they're trying to assess your Spanish abilities, not challenge them. I believe all the PRIME interviews are done with Dr. Vega who is the head of the program, and he is seriously such a nice, amazing guy! I didn't even think of originally applying to the program because I'm not fluent in Spanish, but I can hold a decent conversation. So if you're not an advanced or fluent Spanish speaker, I wouldn't worry too much about it, because you can always practice it more before matriculating!

No second look day, but accepted students were invited to attend a couple student events at the school, which was a very nice offer.

I'm a current student and can confirm that UCI doesn't have a second look day, but accepted students are invited to attend UCISOM events.

Anyone know until when UCI schedules interviews and how many more interview days might be left?

The last interview day will likely be at the end of March. There's probably about a handful (~5) of interview dates left at this point.

I got an invitation to the Conditional acceptance program. Can anyone speak a little more to this?

Students in the Conditional program take some MS1 classes (similar to a SMP program) for one year. At the end of the school year they'll be evaluated for admission into the MS1 class that matriculates in the fall. If they are offered admissions, they won't have to take the MS1 classes they've already taken, but would join the incoming MS1 class for everything else.

questions for anyone that has interviewed here... about how many people do they typically interview on a given day? also, i know they say they don't have an in-state preference, but what is the mix of IS and OOS applicants like on the interview day you attended?

question for someone who recently received an II here... what were some of the available dates to schedule your interview?

There are about 35-40 students per interview day (includes a combo of regular MD, PRIME, and MSTP applicants). My class is mostly instate CA, but there are between 5-10 from out of state.

Received a post-secondary rejection today. Complete ~10/10, LizzyM 71. Not entirely unexpected since UC Irvine places a lot of emphasis on research and my ECs were more community volunteering oriented, but still a bit disappointing. Owell.

I'd say there's also a good mix of emphasis on community oriented service/leadership. While most of my classmates have done some form of research, a lot also had strong community oriented leadership experiences coming in.

To anyone who has already interviewed: Is the student dinner the night before the interview mandatory? Is that the student interview portion of the interview or is that merely just a chance to ask questions and chit chat about the school?

The student dinner the night before the interview is not mandatory but I highly recommend going. It's a good opportunity to talk to current students and ask them about student life/other questions you may have. It's not part of the admission process so you're not being evaluated during the dinner (don't be a jerk though).

hey, so i saw this question and other peoples' replies to it (lmao). i interviewed there at the end of august and got a pretty good idea of what the students who go there are like.

the dean & med school students there were really big on making the interview very low-stress. i got a very "chill" california vibe from it, hard to explain but you may know what i'm talking about. all the med school students there were very happy, transparent, and low-key. most of the other interviewees were also like this. i felt like i got along with most of them, and there was very little sizing each other up and uncomfortable silences. from talking to my student host, hearing from the dean, going through my interviews, and seeing what the other interviewees were like, i get the impression that they're looking for a class that will create a very collaborative, nurturing environment and resonate well with the types of students who go there.

not sure if that's helpful at all (sorry if it isn't,) but i really does seem like there's a type of laid back personality about the school

I'd really echo this point. My class is very collaborative (everyone sends out all their notes to the whole class) and we all get along well. I like that we have a smaller class (104) and have a good number of small group activities that foster a collaborative environment. We've had great turnouts to class-wide events (such as socials, fall retreat in Arrowhead, Vegas trip, ski trip to Big Bear, etc.). Having this kind of environment makes med school more fun and enjoyable.

Do they send out pre-II rejections to everyone who doesn't get an interview or do they just ride people out silently until the end of March?

Rejected pre-II a couple minutes ago by email. Was complete mid July.

So it looks like there were some rejections and acceptances yesterday... hopefully that means some II will be coming soon. Is there anyone else who was complete in July and still haven't heard back?

Me! Complete 7/31. I'm starting to think that UCs don't like me 🙁

I was offered an interview last week and I will be interviewing at the end of February (complete in late September, LM ~72, OOS).

Sorry if this has been asked before, but do any of you know what the grading policy is, if UCI ranks students, and if lecture attendance is mandatory? It would be great if a current student could speak to this.

For reference, the most recent MSAR says that UCI is P/F for M1 & H/P/F for M2-M4, unranked, and that "50% attendance [to lectures] is required" (this seems arbitrary and I don't totally understand what it means). Moreover, the information I found when I looked through the student handbook for the class of 2020 seemed different and very ambiguous regarding grades and rankings.

Thanks for your help & good luck to everyone waiting for news from UCI!

M1= P/F and M2 is H/P/F.

Students told me lectures aren't mandatory at all. They didn't mention any 50% rule, which is odd. Idk anything about rankings but I assume they do for AOA.

Awesome! The other data I saw on MSAR must be old. Thank you for the clarification!

Did anyone else get an email from UCI about financial aid? I was rejected pre-II 3 weeks ago so idk if their computers screwed up or what

Did you just now get rejected? Sorry to hear that 🙁 If you don't mind, would you answer the neurotic SDN questions... completion date? portal rejection or email?

I hope your birthday gets better!

Completed 7/15/16. Email pre II rejection

are they still sending out IIs?
From what I heard from a current student last week, there are still 5 interview dates left. So I think they are definitely sending out more interviews

I interviewed at UCI early January, and received an email telling me I was waitlisted about a week later (really quick turn-around, I was surprised). This definitely stung as I thought my interview went okay, and UCI was my top choice. Does anyone know what the situation is for waitlisted students? I heard most movement occurs during late April/May. Is UCI receptive to Letters of Intent? I haven't accomplished anything extraordinary since my interview a month ago so an update letter probably wouldn't do any good. Thanks!

Totally feel you my man. I interviewed in Nov and was waitlisted in Dec, really quick turnaround compared to other schools. Yeah I have heard that they don't accept anyone off of the waitlist until May (also seems that way scoping last years thread). Good things come to those who wait, keep ur chin up
