2016-2017 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Secondary completed late July/early August, portal still says "Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed....". Anyone else still with this status? I know it's still early, but I'm starting to freak out (neurotic, I know).

OOS complete 8/3 and in same boat as you

Just double checked and I was complete 7/21, which coincidentally puts it at exactly 8 weeks today. I just want to hear one way or another!!

Mine was scheduled for December. If it can be rescheduled, I'm not sure why everyone got random dates.

I guess pictures help.

I'm lactose intolerant, but I'll gladly take that diarrhea for that mac and cheese.

yes please to the mac and cheese diarrhea

Yes I got an email yesterday that said none was available... May have been filled up since I got switched to this date kind of late

I'm doing Air BnB and its gonna cost me $50 for a night. Way better deal than a motel 6 imo.

And yep I guess my Vermont weekend is gonna be a HUGE cheat weekend. Who needs healthy food when you've got Mac and cheese for dayzZZZ

Looks like you can reschedule to other dates. Hope I can spend my weekend with one of you lovely people.

And let us pray for /send good vibes to those who are still waiting to hear news. I hope we all have good news this cycle, even if it is not from UVM.

Congrats and please do pray / send good vibes for the others waiting to hear good news.

October 15 falls on a Saturday this year. Does anyone know if they'll send out emails that Saturday, or wait til Monday?

I am hoping they will send out acceptances on Saturday... I am going to be on vacation so it would be awesome to hear good news!

It sounded to me at 8/27 like they were saying after 10/1 but by 10/15, not exactly on the dot.

If you are early decision, then you will hear back on October 1.

If you are regular decision, the earliest you can hear back is October 15, per AMCAS. Since 10/15 is a weekend, you will probably hear back the first business day after it, aka Monday.

Which interview date did you attended? At the 8/27 interview I thought they said we would hear on the 15th.

I was 9/14, and they said ED will know October 1st and regular decision will know after October 15th, but that since it is a Saturday this year then we will hopefully know by the following business day.

That was my original date but I got reschedule to 9/24... I'll let you know some good places I find after my interview!
Wait, did you ask to be rescheduled to an earlier time or did they reschedule you? I was curious if I could move mine up even a week or so.

They offered me 3 dates.. I had interviews scheduled the other two dates they offered as well as my original date..

I would not reschedule it unless you have a conflict.. A week will not make a difference. Anything before the new year is an early interview with plenty of spots left (even after there are a good amount left)

I guess all the other ones were filled up when they offered me mine. Thanks for the info!

I mostly wanted to interview a bit earlier, because I'm flying from the West Coast, so earlier seems better to avoid any weather travel delays that may crop up. It already takes a day to get there, so delays would be a pain. Fingers crossed it's all good.

Safe travels and good luck!

:scared:Fall will be upon us in 2 days and I'm still in the pool.😢

Wondering which schools sent out rejections notice already- can you advise when appl was completed and when notice came from those schools? and if you interviewed.

At the interview they said probably that Monday or sometime that week

The exceedingly rare triple post. What a sight to be seen.

I interviewed here already and I really liked the school. I think I would like to do a general surgery residency and from the most recent match list only 2 out of the 100 matched into general surgery. Is that something to be concerned about or is it most likely that less people in the class were interested in that residency?

Honestly, both possibilities are equally likely. Have you looked through multiple years of match lists? If it's always around 2%, I might be worried if I were you

Congrats on the interview! I wouldn't be too concerned about residency just yet and focus on getting into medical school first. After more exposure, many people change their minds about the field they want to enter, so you have plenty of time to research and explore. Vermont seems like a strong program with a good match list. I would think it's just that year less people were interested. I doubt even the most competitive residencies like ortho, derm, or neurosurgery would screen based on what school you went to. They had students match into that competitive residencies that I mentioned this year. Getting into a US MD school is the first step and then it really just depends on your boards and a strong residency app. Best of luck!

Everyone talking about this pool...when did you get added to the pool, and how did they notify you? I was complete early/mid August and I have not been notified about any pool, small or otherwise! 🙁

I don't think it's something you get notified about. You can check your UVM portal, though.

Just to add to the pool discussion, I was added about a month ago or so. I then got an update saying my application was on hold because of course requirement questions. They couldn't find a lab course I had taken. I fixed it and now I'm back in the pool. My best guess is the pool consists of people with raw numbers (GPA, MCAT) high enough to pass an initial cutoff. They definitely don't do a thorough review before dumping you in. Sorry if this has been said before, just thought my experience might be different enough to shed some light on the situation.

I believe everyone gets into the pool. My best guess is that upon review people are given a rank and interviews are offered through that rank list.

All my portal says is: "Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed; at certain times of the year, it may take as many as 10-12 weeks. You should continue to periodically check on the status of your file through the Online Applicant Center. We appreciate your patience!" What does it says once you're in the pool?
Like I said, I was complete in early-mid August. My MCAT was 509 and GPA 3.7. Does anyone have any thoughts about why I might not be pooled yet?

Pool Notice: "Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months. Interviews are scheduled between late August and mid-March. You will be notified via email if you have been selected to interview."

Don't worry too much about getting the pool status, it really is not all its cracked up to be. You are probably not pooled yet just because it is a really busy time of the year for them and it might take up to 12 weeks for them to simply process your materials, your stats are great though! Once you are processed you will join the "small" pool, but you just have to keep checking the portal because they only email about interview updates. Everyone gets into the pool, don't stress it! Just be glad you aren't a prune from being in the pool since July!! 😉

Plus I hear somebody left a band aid in there...

would you mind sharing your interview experience for some of us who are interviewing on Saturday 🙂 Thanks!

🙁Temperature is going to drop soon. Time to turn the heat on the pool so we don't freeze.😉

Unfortunately, we can't give you any specifics because we all signed a confidentiality agreement... As cliche as it is, just be yourself. Everyone is very supportive at the interview and the student guides are very good as easing the nerves/tension!

Do you have any recommendations on what to bring? Something like a leather portfolio binder or do we not need anything?

It'd be a pretty cool easter egg if the programmer behind the portal made it switch to saying "hot tub" in winter.

There are so many people in this pool still, I think the body heat will keep us from freezing! I wouldn't mind the hot tub switch though!

Well it might be nice to bring a small book for notes. If they ask if you have any questions, you can refer to it.

Vermont does MMI right? For every MMI I've had, you leave your stuff in a locked room and come get it later, so you don't take anything with you besides water to the actual interview.

So it appears that UVM has a MMI system. Last year had 9 interviewers (so, 9 questions). According to last year's thread, it is a very non-stressful environment. Just be personable. See y'all tomorrow!

I must be out of the loop. Why is this a bad thing?

Oh, well nothing wrong per se. It's an impressive gift. Just really, REALLY unfortunate naming.

I think if it gets confusing, we just get first dibs on changing our name to Harverd School Of Medicine

Gotcha, kind of missed the connection when I read the name. It was a long day at work
