This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It is comments like this that screw with everyone's minds. Remember, there are no guarantees with any of these emails or letters. None of them are an indication that you will or will not get accepted. Just because they say you "fit" or have been "highly ranked" means squat when there are hundreds that are a "fit" or "highly rank" and they only have 46 slots to fill. Also remember not all who get appointed in the past have received these types of emails or letters and some have received that did not get accepted anyway. Remember they have a holistic approach and your rank and fit is only a piece of the equation.

So why would they send these emails then? I can only assume that if we didn’t get one that it means we didn’t rank high or interview strongly, which can’t help our chances. I have definitely taken the silence as bad news rather than neutral news.

Like I said, the way I view it is the highly ranked emails are probably for people who were ranked 5 out of 5 (complete guess). This could mean there are still lots of 4's that will be more than competitive to get in.

I know it's hard, but keep the faith. You got to the interview because you are already a stellar applicant. Believe in your chances, enjoy your holidays, and keep communication with your interviewers. Mayo definitely equates communication with interest.

You got this, don't get down on yourself!

Also received emails this week from both interviewers, one a slightly customized "fit" version; the other completely personal (but we've had several exchanges over the past couple of months about a subject that came up during my interview).

I appreciate the words of support. I guess I’m just sad because I loved Mayo and sent a letter of intent after the interview. Didn’t even get a response by email from one of my interviewers after the fact. I doubt I’ll get in at this point, so I guess it’s good to keep expectations realistic.

Same boat. I'm writing off this one as an R. Sad because I loved it, but I'm looking towards the other schools at this point. Last year all the people who wrote letters of intent and didn't get likely letters ended up getting rejected first round lol.

Wow that really sucks. Good to know I guess.

Anyone who interviewed for 2+2 program receive a "likely letter"? Or actually any communication from their interviewers?

Like, logically, I know that they only accept for a class of 46... But not getting a likely letter still hurts me, Mayo. I thought we had something special.
Also, just judging by SDN, it seems like the same applicants get love from all the schools — multiple acceptances, and now likely letters. It would be nice to catch a break as a non superstar.

I probably shouldn't get this personal but I am by no means a superstar. I have a great GPA but a 509 unbalanced MCAT and from a small school I guarantee no one here has ever heard of. I only had the money to apply to 10 schools and I currently have 1 acceptance at a tier 3 school (and I would go there happily if they are the only acceptance I get) I honestly don't know what they saw in me, but I'm humbled by it. Don't doubt yourself man.

Well I’m glad some underdogs are getting some love. I hope you hear good news from Mayo — maybe I can live vicariously through you even though it probably won’t work out for me.

46 is the matriculating class size this year - they give out more acceptances than that. As per USNews, last year it was 4802 applications, 294 interviewed, 86 accepted, and 51 enrolled, so roughly 1 in 3 of those who interviewed got an accept.

It's definitely too soon to give up hope if you interviewed, especially since the main obstacle definitely seems like it's getting an interview at all. These letters aren't accept letters, and all there is here is pure speculation on what they mean based on only a tiny handful of people posting they received these letters from the number of total acceptances that they'll end up giving out. No one knows how these letters correlate with acceptances, or even how many people they've sent them out to (or if they plan on sending out more).

I’m glad at least one veteran is getting some love. I’ve sent them quite a bit of interest myself. We’ll see how it all plays out but I’m rooting for you dude.

That actually doesn’t seem to be precisely true.

Though I wonder if they received a likely letter before Jan? I’ll check.

Touche, probably some confirmation bias going on on my end. Granted, there still were quite a few people who had no likely letter and sent a LOI and got rejected first round.

Of that I have no doubts. I just know that I haven’t received a “likely letter” myself and didn’t want others to loose hope.

Former grunt, but the 58D is the part you’re looking for I think.

Yes that’s what I was looking for! Grunts aren’t all bad. I was an engineer 12B. But aircraft repair? That seems really interesting. I’ll be rooting for you dude thanks again for looking into the old threads.

I was a 12B for awhile, but I didn’t repair them, I flew them.

I think you mixed it up, by the way. It looks like it was 8 likely letters to 5 no likely letters.

Good catch, that’s what I meant. I’ll make the edit real quick. Thanks for pointing it out.

What did we all learn in class today folks? Always provide references, because your mastery of the English language may have failed in a most public way.

At this point I think we should just accept that not receiving a likely letter, while not a death sentence, is a bad sign. It means you either didn’t interview well or the rest of your application wasn’t the most competitive of the current pool. Really sucks to type that out but it seems being realistic is better than deluding ourselves. God knows how this process works.

I would argue against that. Only on the premise that the “likely letters” do not seem to be a compulsory part of the process, and not all interviewers are necessarily in the habit of sending them out. It appears to be the interviewers prerogative.

Huh, didn’t know that’s how you spelled “prerogative”...makes me think I miss pronounce it as well.

But the fact that most interviewed applicants are getting the letters around the same time suggests it is standard practice to send out such letters if the applicant is indeed highly ranked. Plus it’s not like all applicants had different interviewers — many applicants were probably interviewed by the same person.

That’s my point. It seems like many of these letter are originating from the same handful of interviewers, not a sprinkling from each. So either it is personal preference as to whether or not they send them, or one group of interviewers successfully argued to rank their interviewers extraordinarily well. Or some other just as likely reason. My point is that it’s not a death sentence, and shouldn’t be treated as such. There could be a far more benign reason than we performed poorly for why you or didn’t get a letter.

Well I appreciate your optimism. I guess it didn’t help that I don’t feel so great about one of my interviews at Mayo. Not getting a likely letter after that seems to have validated my worst fears.

I actually got my email a few weeks ago but I didn't see it as a highly ranked email, wasn't sure if my interviewer let me in on a secret that I wasn't supposed to share. Didn't want to get them/me in trouble.

You never know. You may have felt you did poorly but actually did quite well. Just as much as the opposite could be true. But I understand how you feel. I literally wrote my entire application directed at Mayo, and to not have received a “likely letter” really does bother me. However, I know that there could be numerous reasons for this, not least of which would be I am not qualified. Yet I choose to focus on the ones that don’t make me feel as though I have failed.

I was a combat MOS too...I usually don't disclose because people get weird about it. Lmao

I do the same thing though. People find out what I used to do, and they have a hard time looking past it. So I generally don’t tell people. I even had friends outside the Army while I was still active who didn’t even know I was in for close to a year.

Just got a "strong fit" letter. Kind of unsure of its purpose but it looks like a good sign. Mayo's my top choice and I would be over the moon if I got in! Interviewed in early November and sent in a letter of intent two weeks ago. Good luck to all!

Yeah same here people basically sum you up as just who you were instead of who you are and what you’re trying to accomplish. I have a hard time listing military awards and what not on things because of the weirdness that is involved. I just let most people figure out that I was in the military themselves.

Would those who received “highly ranked” or “strong fit” emails mind posting the initials of their interviewers who sent them? This way those of us who haven’t received them could hold on to hope that our interviewers just aren’t sending those types of emails out. Completely understand if you don’t feel comfortable doing so though - just figured I would ask

Hey Leg and Marine, just wanted you to know, I’m stanning for yall shared life experiences. Let me know when y’all get accepted so I can ship y’all bromance.
Okay that’s it lol

People from the Mayo AZ thread just received another round of "highly likely" letters. Did anyone from the FL 2+2 Program receive them? As far as I know, admissions for the combined program is separate from the regular program, as they have different admissions emails and Deans sending letters.
