Still on the hold list after another round of reviews. Thinking of it as making it through another elimination round. Trying to stay positive! I love this program and am extremely likely to accept the offer if I ever receive it.

Mind sharing stats and how you felt the interview went?

Sure, no problem! LizzyM = about 67, ORM, tons of extracurricular experience.
I felt very good about the MMI (I have a lot of public speaking experience, would say I have strong interpersonal skills, and had thoughtful, empathetic, and logical answers for all prompts and pleasant interactions with most interviewers) and think the first half of college may be where they’re hesitating, but I have complete confidence in my career path and my abilities. It’s up to the ad-com whether they believe in me, too!

Question for those that have interviewed here - is there a "rest" station or a bathroom break during the MMI's? Or if I have to use the restroom is that taken out of the time at a station?

Yes, you do get a break, and it’s as long as the time in one station (so other people are interviewing while you are on break). I don’t want to say too much about the experience, but if you need a quick bathroom break you’re probably fine! Just make sure you’re speedy and it doesn’t run into your time at any of the stations! Probably best to use the restroom before the MMI portion of the day starts just to be safe—otherwise, just be quick.

To those accepted, the MSAR says we have 2 weeks from initial acceptance to provide a statement of interest. How would I go about doing that? Is it as simple as e-mailing the Admission Office?

Sounds appropriate, but you can always give them a call to double-check.

In the email you receive from Admissions, there is a link to the Affirmation Statement. Click on that and it will bring up the document you need to fill out and sign. I'm sure if you email Admissions, they will be happy to direct you to it.

I continue to wonder how much communication (if any) there is between admissions personnel at UA-Tucson and Phoenix. It seems like they are interested in many of the same applicants, with many UA-Phoenix interviewees being on hold for interview at Tucson. Though many have also been pre-II rejected, and I did meet someone who interviewed at Tucson before Phoenix :pompous: Speculation only goes so far, though.

rejected post secondary, pre-II today. complete mid-July, OOS, LM mid 60s, good luck to everyone still in the running here.

Also rejected pre II just now. OOS complete late October, 67 LM, non-traditional with good ECs. On a side note, I was put on Tucson's interview waitlist about 2 weeks ago and lots of people say this is a dead end. It appears UA may not be as OOS friendly as in previous years.

Interview Invite this morning. OOS 512 MCAT, 4.0GPA. Only offered December 11 which I can’t do so I emailed them hoping they have a later date available! Fingers crossed!

Some people apparently do get interviewed at Tucson after being put on the II waitlist. It’s not necessarily a dead end! 🙂 I’m just not holding out hope for the school. (Phoenix is a different story! I would probably cancel the rest of my interviews if accepted there.)

I think I read an email saying that the last interview is offered in Jan. Does anyone know if all the interview spots have been taken?
I just found out that the secondary invite was sent, but I never got it. I have to submit it tomorrow, but it seems like a lot of OOS people are getting rejected and only the people with high stats got IIs...

I’m from far OOS and have a LizzyM of only 67 (not URM). It really is a holistic review process.

Anybody know when interviews end here? I think they only do 10 interview days and when I interviewed about a month ago they were on their 5th session so I'd assume they don't have many left now?

They end January 22nd I believe. I talked to the Admissions office and that’s what I remember them saying!

Anyone know how many folks are on the hold list? It's been a few weeks for me, so I'm wondering how many I'm up against in addition to the contenders that keep popping up from recent interviews.

Hi all,

As we approach the holiday season, I thought this would be a good time to jump in and discuss some themes I have seen emerging. However, before I get there, I wanted to let you know that there has been some great discussions going on. We truly appreciate the collaboration, communication, and support shown on our medical school thread!

I have seen a few conversation threads centered on where you are in the process. This has included Accepts, Declines, and – probably most confusing – the Hold decision. So, here is a quick breakdown on each category:
  • Accept – we have a pool of accepted students at this stage of the cycle and we are truly excited about extending an offer to each person. Our Class of 2022 will be a truly strong cohort!
  • Decline – undoubtedly, this communication is the more difficult update we provide to candidates. We know each of you have put so much effort into your applications. Nevertheless, our office has to make difficult decisions along the way. Hopefully, you have found a strong fit at another medical school. If so, congratulations! If not, keep the faith. Take a hard look at what you can do to improve your chances for next year, put a plan together, and then attack the plan! Finally, as a word of encouragement, 40% of our current class were reapplicants. This should tell you that our Admissions Committee values experience and does not hold it against anyone if they need to reapply.
  • Hold – honestly, this is a good sign! I know it can be frustrating but you have to understand that you are under serious consideration by our Admissions Committee. We will do our best to keep you informed and, of course, you are welcome to reach out to our Admissions office whenever necessary if you need further clarification or just a word of encouragement!
As for those that have not heard from us, this is also a good sign! Out of nearly 7,000 applications you are still being considered for admission to our College of Medicine – Phoenix. We still have approximately 40 invitations to interview to extend. Final invitations will go out in the first of the new year. With this in mind, I wish you the best as we review our last applications this season and compare to those applications still in consideration from earlier in the cycle.

Finally, we have seen a few questions regarding updates and letters of intent. Our medical school does not accept updates. To be fair to all applicants, we believe the Admissions Committee should review only the candidates’ application and the results from their interview day. As for letters of intent, we are pleased to accept this form of commitment from those who interviewed.

Happy Holidays and continued GREAT LUCK…

Dr. Fogerty

Rejected yesterday. Complete 08/01. Trad, IS, LM 69 with over a thousand hours helping underserved communities in AZ. Disappointed is an understatement.

Tragic. While certainly there is much more to an application than the things you listed, that level of service in Arizona indicates that you are much more likely to give back to the AZ community in the long run. Yet Phoenix is one of the few in state schools in America that has given out more interviews to out of state students this cycle than to in state applicants. Shame on UA Phoenix for being an outlier in this sense.

I implore the admissions committee and leadership at UA Phoenix to reassess their priorities and give more Arizona applicants a chance. You are a public institution and one of your biggest priorities should be to train future health care providers and leaders who serve Arizona. There are dozens of greatly qualified IS applicants who are being rejected because of the misguided priorities of this school.

You have 40 interviews remaining. The vast majority of these should go to in-state students. I have zero doubt that there are enough qualified IS applicants to warrant my opinion that these interviews should go to in-state applicants.

Addendum: Let there be no doubt that admissions committees discuss target numbers during their meetings for how many OOS/IS students to interview and ultimately accept. The admissions office can decide who they want to give these final 40 interviews to. In previous years, the interview ratio has been 50/50 for IS/OOS. This year, the school is treading dangerously towards giving MORE OOS interviews than IS and the school will have to give out 30 IS interviews and 10 OOS interviews to meet previous averages.

As someone who has not heard a reply yet, does anyone know how many of the 7,000 applications they have been through?

January 22 is the January interview date. I received an II for December 11, but wasn't able to make it. The Admissions office told me that I could reschedule for that date in January.

Anyone on post-interview hold hear anything positive from admissions lately?

How long does UA Phoenix typically take to get back to you after interviews? Is it about 8 weeks?
