2017-2018 University of Massachusetts

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'll venmo someone $1 if they call and ask what this means hahaha

I just called, they said "We wanted to send out a friendly reminder that your application is still being reviewed and that we haven't forgotten about you. Hopefully, you will have a relaxing holiday and not have to worry too much" 😉

They were so nice.

Hi would the accepted lucky ones please give the exact date of your interview so the rest of us that are stressed out can gauge when the next interview dates will be decided? Congrats to you all and say a pryer for the rest of us.

Also got that update email today, complete late aug. That opening "Thank you for your interest in umass" definitely shook me until I realized it wasn't an R

Got an update email from the office saying they received my application and am currently under review. Honestly thought it was a rejection email by its opening sentence. Guess i'll be sitting in silence purgatory for who knows how much longer 🙁 submitted secondary mid-august
edit: oos

I got this email too and thought it was a rejection letter!

Anyone else feel that the whole sent to: “undisclosed recipients” was rather ominous lol.

Regardless just glad it wasn’t a rejection. Really counting on this in state tuition...

That makes it seem like it was sent to specific people not everyone right? I mean if they were sending it to everyone I feel like it wouldn't of said anything or just to our specific email idk haha

Did they send out this email last year? Trying to figure out whether it is a good sign or just neutral...

+6 OOS. I definitely thought it was a rejection since I was complete 7/18, or at least a notification that my application was put on hold. Confused as to what the email means. Was it just to shut us all up/stop us from constantly calling/emailing for status updates? lol
+7 OOS

If we haven't heard back after the interview, do we just assume we're on the waitlist? Been 6+ weeks of silence ;_;

No. They only have a few committee meetings early in the cycle and the majority of applicants won't be reviewed until January-March. If you haven't heard, they haven't reviewed you yet because they'll send out decisions as soon as they're made. Don't lose hope!!! Going to be a long wait for UMass for most of us....

I interviewed 10/11 and have not heard back yet! I think they are just slow.

Accepted today, interviewed late October! Have lived in MA for 5 years but not considered in-state by them.
Really? What date exactly did you interview if you don't mind? I find it strange they would just skip over the rest of the earlier October dates.

They explained to my interview day that they only can present a certain number of applicants at a time during the monthly adcom meetings and they tend to choose those who stood out to them the most first. So yes, they can just skip over you but just hang tight because they're likely to keep most of us waiting until the early winter months when there are more adcom meetings scheduled per month.

Has anyone who received that email last week received a II? or any IIs recently?

Has anyone heard from PURCH or know how they handle their acceptances/rejections?

10/27! Yes, it does sound strange. Not sure why they did that.

i was under he impression that they were going in order of interview date but after reading everyone’s posts that seems to be inaccurate. What is true That a reliable source said is that when you are reviewed for a decision you will know your fate of A R or W/L they will not say for example you are rejected or waitlisted and let’s wait to notify the applicant. We also know for sure no one is looking at anything tomorrow but their turkey dinner! So next Thursday the music starts again. Happy turkey day to all.

just received an II and i’m in shock!! complete early august, OOS- is there actually any chance for me as an OOS applicant or is this like a pity invite??

Congrats to those with IIs today!! Have any ISers received interviews today???

They do reserve a specific number of spots for OOS! The hardest part is getting an interview I think so if they're interviewing you, you definitely have a shot 🙂 no such thing as a pity interview, they wouldn't waste resources unless you really have a shot

A little late in the game, but I just received an II for PURCH! I am from OOS and will be flying in. Any suggestions on traveling between Worcester and Springfield?

Congrats!! The grey hound bus was cheap and reliable, and you can the bus back to Boston from Springfield for your return flight 🙂

II Yesterday for the PURCH track! In true MA fashion, I read the e-mail while at Gillette watching the Patriots.

(IS Lizzy M 75 complete mid July)

Does anyone know if you can be considered OOS for application purposes but IS for tuition purposes? I grew up in MA but have lived the past 5+ years independently in another state -- I qualified for residency for tuition purposes at UMASS though because I have immediate family still living in MA.

23 II!! Way to go! I haven't seen any profiles with more than 10 IIs. What school are you going to attend?

Anyone from the 10/11 interview hear back yet?

How many applicants who have interviewed does the committee review on Thursday?
