2017-2018 University of Utah

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey folks. I'm an MS1 here at UUSOM. I haven't been on SDN forever but I guess I'm bored today. I hope you all have a good experience interviewing and applying here, I know it is stressful and horrible. I am absolutely loving medical school here at the U. It is a wonderful school full of incredible people and opportunities. Take an acceptance here very seriously. Medical school is hard but very enjoyable and much better than pre-med life, I promise. If you have any questions about the school or my experiences hit me up. I know I'm late in the cycle but I thought I would offer. Good luck to all of you and I hope to see you on campus this fall!

Does anyone know what time the interview day actually ends? I'm trying to plan my flight back home. Thanks in advance!

Got the call from Dr. Chan this morning. IS Interviewed in mid-December. Good luck to everyone!

I missed Dr. Chan's call this morning and, after a little phone tag, I was officially accepted this afternoon.

Interviewed in October, LizzyM ~71. I wasn't expecting to hear this early; I'm still a little shaky. Best of luck to everyone still in the running!

Congratulations! Still waiting to hear back from my September interview. Hopefully I will join you!

Congrats!!!!!! Were you IS or OOS?

Crap. I just realized I forgot to list something on my secondary. Hopefully it doesn't sway their final decision.

Did he leave a message? I keep getting calls from a Utah number that are probably telemarketers that I wasn't able to answer and I keep worrying he may not leave a message and then I wouldn't know he called.

Yeah, he left a message.

Just noticed that there are 72 members in the class of 2022 on Facebook. That's definitely more than 25%.

Probably some people who joined just to see what was going on in the group/stalk acceptances. They only accept a handful of people before Feb, right?

I hope that is the case. They said at my interview that only 25% of the class would be accepted before March.

Oh! It's probably so high because there are current students in the group! Probably trying to help out/answer questions/sell UofU

I got a call from a Utah number recently and my heart starts racing, I try to answer the phone with my professional voice on, all nervous.. aaaand it was someone trying to sell me insurance. :arghh:

There are at least some administrators in there. Isn't it a closed group? I know last year it was.

Does anyone know if any Idaho residents have been accepted yet? Seems like all the acceptances on SDN so far are from IS folk. Trying to keep my hopes alive over here :nailbiting:

I got the phone call from Dr. Chan yesterday that I was accepted. I'm totally flabbergasted, and honored and excited! All I can say is that the admissions committee and indeed even the Dean are very holistic and detailed in the review of applicants. During our conversation, Dr. Chan highlighted certain aspects of my application and was genuinely interested in my story and success. So, if you don't have the greatest numbers, take heart.
For everyone who will ask- LizzyM over 70, interviewed in December.

Can anyone speak to how many women vs. men were at their interview day here? It was almost even at mine (slightly more male interviewees), but I have heard of days where there were 15 male applicants and only one female at an interview day or even all male. Trying to gauge what their interview population looks like!

My interview day was pretty much split evenly with men and women. Good mix of IS and OOS as well

Mine was all male and all in-state.

mine was also 1 woman and 15 male, but evenly split IS and OOS I would say.

Hello all,

First of all, congrats to all you with acceptances! That's awesome!

I have been lurking on here for a while now and I figured I better come out from the shadows and contribute to the conversation. I got an II just a few weeks ago and I will be interviewing on 2/16. I just did the SVI on Saturday. It wasn't terrible. It was difficult talking to a computer rather than a human, but it helped to practice some before the interview. I also had the McAfee thing pop up right after clicking start on the first video interview, haha! So I had to click it out real quick and apologize to the video, what can you do. If anybody else is interviewing IS and still needs to do the SVI, message me because I bought a webcam that greatly improved the picture quality over my laptop's integrated webcam, and I'd be happy to let anybody borrow it.

I'm super excited to interview at the U! I am an IS student, reapplicant, and have a master's degree in a field unrelated to medicine. I am a somewhat unusual applicant, but I definitely have the drive and desire to become an excellent physician. Not sure how LizzyM stuff works, but I also don't know that stats matter as much as other things for this interview. I'm just hoping to make a good impression and argue some good points in the MMI's.

Well, I don't have much else to say. I just wanted to introduce myself and thank you guys for the stuff you've been posting. Hopefully I'll see some of you on the 16th!

Good luck to everybody else!

Can anyone comment on how this school handles step one? Is there/how long is the dedicated study time?
Any current students that live on campus willing to share their opinions of the housing options?

Has there been any OOS acceptances? Interviewed mid-December and I am starting to go crazy

I’m OOS and I intervened in October and I haven’t heard anything either!

Did the online interview this week, and I don't think I will ever stop having nightmares about the admissions committee rewatching those horrid 2 minute segments over and over

Haha! Don't feel bad. I've had similar feelings. I actually keep reliving one of the questions. I just didn't clearly say exactly what I wanted in the 2 minutes. I think I got cutoff mid-sentence on most of the videos. Don't stress too much. We're all aspiring doctors. I don't think the admissions committee is judging our acting skills (thank goodness).
