Has anyone else got the hold status who interviewed in November?

I got it, but I just interviewed this past weekend. I'm confused about what it actually means since they don't send out acceptances until Dec 18th anyway. So it doesn't mean we definitely won't get an acceptance... right? To me it doesn't sound like a bad thing, I think it's just saying that they reviewed the file and the decision will be sent out on Dec 18.

EDIT: Just did some digging through last year's thread, seems like almost everyone had this status post-interview and it doesn't seem to be indicative of the final decision.

Rejection email came last night at like 4 AM , complete 08/20 I believe. Never got off the "your application is being reviewed by the sub-committee status".

Good luck to everyone else!

Yes, they said at my interview (also late November) that on Wednesday of this week, we would get a status update informing us that our application had been reviewed and scored by the committee. It doesn't mean anything but that the committee has met (Monday) and reviewed your application and either given you an overall score or decided to defer you (if you got below a 3 average score on the MMI). Then on December 18th, those above a certain score will be accepted and those below will be either be waitlisted or deferred. At least that's how I understood Dr. Whitehurst-Cook's explanation. So everyone who interviews gets that update. I got it, too.

I didn't think that students would be notified that they would be placed on a waitlist in December. I was under the impression that everyone who didn't get an acceptance by the December acceptance date (who interviewed) would keep the sample portal information as before. Thoughts?

Did she go into anymore details on scoring with your group? She kind of rushed thru the explanation. I still don’t get the grading system. Was it if you’re above 3 then you’re accepted?

I believe she said 1-3 to move on to the post-interview committee review and get the "on hold for possible acceptance" status. Then, from what I gathered, the person in admissions who gave you the II presents your application to the entire admissions committee and then they put an anonymous vote in to determine your admissions decision. The more "yes" votes you receive, the higher you are on the list for possible acceptance. That's what I got out of their explanation if anyone wants interject.

That's pretty much what I gathered as well.

I'm glad you explained that because I clearly didn't understand that well lol. But that makes sense. I do remember her saying if you get a status update mid week this week, you've been forwarded to the admissions committee to vote (if your average score was 3 or less) but I thought the admissions committee met already Monday for like the final vote. Your version makes more sense lol.

Does anyone know if they're receptive to letters of interest?

Thanks for the explanation! Just to be clear though, getting a score that is 1-3 is good and means that they are considering you further? Whereas if you get a score of 3-5 it is bad and they are no longer considering your application?

Yep!

To be clear, the votes are not yes or no. They are 1-5. Committee scores range amongst voting members of the group, and it is a composite overall score that will determine final status.

Any procedural questions??

Yes, if we were initially invited to interview much later in the cycle and then took an earlier interview date, are our scores already much lower? So is the likelihood of being accepted at the december 16 date is slim to none?

No. Interview performance has a huge say in final ranking.

Further, fantastically scored candidates are still being reviewed on a daily basis. There are only so many slots for interviews, so depending on when your file was processed, that may have dictated an initial later interview date; however, it doesn't mean it was a lower priority score of file rank.

Do you accept significant updates (pre-II), such as completing a graduate degree?

As stated earlier on this forum, a change in portal status after an interview indicates that files were voted on and reviewed. During the interview day it seemed like the general impression was that every interviewed candidate in late October, November and early December would be reviewed and scored before the December 18th acceptance wave.

If one month after the interview the portal status still says: "Your interview is now complete! the Committee will now do a review of your application."
Is that indicative of a lower interview score?

The thread from last year seemed to show a few students who were accepted without ever receiving a portal update post interview. Is there any rhyme or reason for the order by which post interview candidates are voted on and scored in committee?

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, all applicants that have interviewed will have been discussed and scored by Monday. The only exception to this may be a few MD/PhD applicants. Portal status should be indicative of a hold status if all is good. If after Monday your portal has not changed, PM me.

About 100 new interview slots are expected to open up shortly.
Thank you for the update! Previously I think you had mentioned that VCU was considering conducting waitlist interviews. Would these 100 interviews be solely for a spot on the waitlist at best?

I assume since I don't have a "very interested"status I have a very very low chance of an interview invite lol.

I honestly don't know how many people are sitting in the "very interested" pile, so I can't say with any certainty.

For all those that do not receive an interview invite or do not end up getting accepted, I advise you to contact the Admissions Office after March and get advice as to what may be holding your candidacy back.

I’ve heard that the committee will not consider the lowest scored interview station. Is there any merit to this?

That is not entirely true. The committee will not focus on any single score as a general directive; it is more concerned with general performance. That said, if one score is particularly troubling because of atypical circumstances or content, that may be a big deal.

Any idea when we'll find out if we got one of those 100 new interview spots?

One of my friends got an II today. No status change.

For something of that import, yes.
@Dean Mission
Once a post-II file is reviewed at committee, does it ever get re-reviewed?

For someone who interviewed in September, yet didn't get a decision in October, what is the chance of admission at subsequent admit waves?

A committee score is unchanging. There is no such thing as a re-review. Not receiving an offer in October says nothing about your chances to receive one on the remaining three dates.
