Status Update: "Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates."

-Getting ready for a rejection
I have the same message bby. Keep those fingers crossed and the alcoholic beverages comin' :sour:

Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates.

Got this status today without an email. To be honest I am not that hopeful though as I got this status last year and didn't get an II :/

Well that makes me feel super hopeless :arghh:

Is it bad news if I still have the "Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile." message having been complete for over 3 weeks?

There is a pile of probably 1,000 secondary applications or more that need to be looked at before they are allowed to be file reviewed. Usually, secondary applications will be ranked and then placed into separate piles that need to be file reviewed. Since file reviews take a long time to do, you can imagine that the ranking system expedites the files that are exceptionally promising. In some cases, file reviews will take place very quickly. In other cases, it may be until the new year or beyond before a particular application is looked at intensely. It is a numbers game, and there are only so many eyes to read the applications.

Imagine that you are a volunteer premed working in a free clinic that serves a large immigrant population. Your duties include taking the patients’ medical history. Today you are working with an elderly patient who does not speak English and the adult son is translating for his mother. You notice that he is answering many of the questions for her without translating. During the conversation, the son tells you that if his mother has cancer he does not want her to know because the news “will kill her”. He says that in his family he speaks for the elderly mother and does not want a translator. How will you approach this situation? (You may seek help to answer this question.)

There's also a re-applicant essay (if applicable) and fmSTAT essays (if you want to do Family practice):

1. Describe the doctor you want to be and discuss how a career in family medicine will help you achieve that. (2500 characters)

2. Describe your concept of what Family Medicine is and tell us what specific influence led you to this understanding? (2500 characters)

Good luck to everyone applying!

So I am a bit confused. Are prompts 1 and 2 required along with the ethical essay? And which one is the re-applicant essay?

I believe fmSTAT is a specific program -- it's kinda like, if you want to apply to the specific primary care track, then the other two prompts are required. However, if you only want to apply to the medical school w/out primary care track then just ethical and the re-app essay if applicable 😀

What's this FamStat people are talking about? I checked the secondaries and I do not see any prompts in regards to family medicine. Can someone please fill me in? I did not choose family medicine or family practice as one of my top specialties.

Hey everyone, good luck! I'm an M2 at VCU. I'm willing to answer any questions you have about VCU specifically or any generic questions about med school/applying. PM me if you want to ask something!

Re-applicant essay means only re-applicants should answer those questions right? So effectively there is only one prompt? What is the word/character limit on that?

It's 2000 characters with spaces. And yes, there's only one prompt unless you plan to answer the 'academic lapses' question:

Please briefly explain any lapses in your undergraduate education; include any in enrollment during your undergraduate education and/or any gaps between undergraduate education and applying to medical school. (example: poor grades, multiple withdraws, health reasons, etc.)

First rejection of the cycle received today from here.
IS, 3.2 s/c undergrad Gpa, 3.8 grad gpa, 511 mcat.
Good luck to everyone else!!

I saw this post and got an email at the same time and thought I was next. But it was just spam. Good luck on the rest of your cycle your mcat looks great for lots of MDs.

Can anybody explain why the VCU class is made up of approximately 50% students of Asian descent? (according to MSAR)

Anyone have any insight on this message from previous years? One poster on this thread said its like they'll keep coming back throughout the year and checking to see if you got an interview (the waiting here would be so intense sigh) while another said only some got interviews after this message.

Dang, so everyone is getting status changes and I submitted my secondary the first day it came. I guess no news is good news, right?

Did you receive a "very interested in your candidacy" status? Mine changed one week ago and I'm not sure what to make out of it. I'm OOS.
i dont think so. i checked my portal like 2 days before and said "your application is complete we'll review it." didnt check it again until i got the email.

Still on
"Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application"
Since mid July...

Mine did that, added in the Hold part, went BACK to that, now has the Hold part again! Rejection is probably on the way :/

II today!!
complete 7/17,
also they did not email me saying I received an interview, all that was said was:
"***THIS IS A COMPUTER-GENERATED MESSAGE THAT IS SENT TO APPLICANTS WHOSE APPLICATION STATUS HAS CHANGED IN THE LAST 24 HOURS.***"
I then went into the portal to see an interview invite. Best of luck to all of you guys.

Congrats! Hopefully I get one too! Are you IS or OOS and did you ever receive the "very interested in your candidacy" status?
