This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. We are trying to interview all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible if we have an adequate number of interview slots. Please anticipate an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date.

II (i think?) this morning, no date slots open (STATS: OOS, 3.8+, 515+, ORM, complete on 7/5)

Dang, just got the "Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates. " message on my portal this morning...

I can't log into the portal, getting an error

When was your application complete? IS or OOS?

It's 2000 characters with spaces. And yes, there's only one prompt unless you plan to answer the 'academic lapses' question:

Please briefly explain any lapses in your undergraduate education; include any in enrollment during your undergraduate education and/or any gaps between undergraduate education and applying to medical school. (example: poor grades, multiple withdraws, health reasons, etc.)

So if I took a gap year and then enrolled in a SMP do I put that down for this question? That would be considered a gap between UE and applying to medical school right?

So according to the VCU Letters of Rec instructions, it recommends to get a LOR from somebody that can comment about your gap year experiences ( Letters of Recommendation - MD Program Admissions - VCU School of Medicine ). If you already have enough LOR's from people, then do you absolutely need this? FYI, I would be taking 1 gap year.

It is always good to have recent LORs to account for activities that you will be doing during the gap year. While it's your decision, I think it will strengthen your application.
I am taking two years off and have two LORs in addition to the ones I have from university.
Hope this helps 🙂

Scheduled my interview, just wanted to let you guys know my options were all on or after 10/21, so looks like all dates before that are full. Also, they do interviews on Saturdays as well.

How frequently are they conducting interviews? Once per week?

First II this cycle 😀 -- OOS Resident of CA, 3.84cGPA/3.83sGPA, MCAT 505 -- had "committee is interested" status for two weeks before being able to schedule an interview through the tab; no email or contact, just kept checking portal -- no record of ties to state in AMCAS primary

Congrats! Did you apply FMstat or did you apply for something else?

Congrats! Are you URM or non-traditional by any chance? When were you complete?

Complete 7/17, Received "interested" message 7/26

I am Vietnamese but born and raised in California. This year is the first year Southeast Asians are determined by AMCAS to be URM - so technically yes, but I don't know if schools recognize it. And I am traditional, graduated in 2016.

Lol I know right. I'm curious to hear if he has any special aspects in the app, since 505 is on the lower end for OOS. But it's wonderful to get an II nonetheless!

haha true, well, i'm a re-applicant this year and this will be my second gap year; as far as any "special aspects" i'm not really sure -- I studied clinical psychology, minored in chemistry, this past year I worked as a behavioral therapist to kids with autism.

"Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates."

What the hell is this
.
It's their way of saying they're not receptive to in the area emails, and the rest is self-explanatory.

Any idea where they are in the reviews? Still sitting on "MD file is now complete." I'm a reapp, so I'm also not sure if that gets "put in another pile"

same here

Just had orientation this week and wanted to share some info: They said they received around 8000-9000 apps and interviewed 600-700 people. I give the range because I can't recall what the exact numbers were, but definitely within that range. MSAR gives different numbers, so I just wanted to throw this info out there provided from the school itself. I think they accepted around 300-400 people, but I can't remember if the source was from the school or something I read/heard somewhere else. Hope this all helped. Good luck everyone!

yeah MSAR said they interviewed around 1000 so that's interesting

Has anyone gotten an II that did not have a "committee is interested" status? Like just the "MD file is now complete"

When were you complete if you don't mind me asking?

I think they rank the applications for interview or rejections. Your file seems to be put on the side for now. Maybe they're going to come back to it at a later time and make a second decision or maybe they're waiting to see how other apps are before actually deciding....It's not a outright rejection though.

just some thoughts from my own opinion of how they're reviewing apps. Take my statement with a grain of salt.

+1

Doesn't look promising.

Just out of curiosity, does the secondary application involve any questions regarding the verification of state residency? Or is the initial determination or residency (for admissions purposes) based on the listed residency on the AMCAS primary?

how soon do you add a LOR from your gap year? i just started my gap year 2 months ago and have a letter, but wasn't sure if it's too early to send since most schools haven't even reviewed my app ^^; i was thinking of saving it until november for schools that put me on hold or something...
