II end of November!! Complete end of August. (No portal updates in between.)

I am confused about the MMI format. At what point do we answer the traditional interview questions (why medicine, why this school)? During the first 14 minutes?
Any advice on how to prepare?

Has anyone got this status: I want to know if it's worth calling the office or if I should wait. I have been complete since 7/15 and have taken my MCAt and have no classes left to take. "
Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile.

Please note that your file may be put on hold for the following reasons:
Hold for MCAT: We are assuming you are scheduled to take the test. The Committee wishes to wait to evaluate your file until those scores are available. MCATS taken after September of the year of application will not be considered. If you are not planning to take or retake the MCAT, please notify us immediately.

Hold for Grades: The file review done by the Committee has determined that you are engaged in coursework which may affect their decision about whether to invite you for an interview. It is imperative that you submit grades for current or proposed courses in a timely fashion. Any file on hold for grades that are not submitted by January 31st will automatically be rejected. If you did not take the course indicated on your primary or supplemental application, please notify us immediately."

I had that for an afternoon, then it went to "Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates." the next morning

Thanks! So it's basically your file is about to be reviewed lol.

Oh good, stay optimistic. I've been in this game for too many years that I've taken a page from Marvin the Paranoid Android - This will all end in tears. I just know it.

At least I always enjoy the secondaries that I've filled out with them. Very standard, but still very interesting scenarios. Please never make us do CASPer, please please.

+1 on never doing the CASPer. I think the sad part is that there might be even more tests for future applicants. I'm scared to see what the application process will look like in ten years.

I got the very interested notification three days ago. Do most people who get this notification get an interview? I don't want to get my hopes up if not!

I was notified of the "very interested" status change in Mid-September. Approaching the 6-week mark with the status. I check almost daily lol but no change. Anxiously waiting.

Who knows. I reached out to the admissions office this week to try to obtain more info regarding this status. The woman couldn't really give me any info other than saying that as long as I see that status I'm still in the running lol

RIP boys 🙁 Does this mean I'm screwed? It was a good run.

The picture won't open. What does it say?
sorry, I edited it and put a new picture up. it says:

"
The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for possible acceptance at a later date. We anticipate making offers around October 16, December 16, February 1, and March 16. If any of these dates falls on a weekend the offers will be made on the following Monday. Only offers of admission will be made on the dates above.

Your profile will remain on hold, and you will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change you will be contacted about will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list (the alternate list is formulated in late-March), or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file.

Please refrain from contacting the Admissions Office. We thank you for your interest in our school."

I think i'm just being a neurotic premed--I know its not the end of the world, but I'm just curious if everyone gets this "hold" status, or if it essentially means that they did a first pass and rejected, and are waiting for more apps to come through.

No, not at all. VCU will only give out decisions on those dates. Everyone that interviewed after October 16th will have this status. It just basically says you will find out your decision on December 16th.

Ugh thanks. It’s just reassuring to hear it from someone else haha.

Complete end of July and got the your file complete status, but with the addition of that whole "your app may be on hold for mcat/classes" to my portal status. I'm not taking the MCAT and I finished my classes...so based off other people's posts, this is just a general update I'm guessing...

Anyone know if the interview is closed or open file? I figure since it's an MMI, the interviewers aren't gonna have time to go through each person's app during the switching period but it would be nice to know

It's an MMI, so they won't know anything about you or your application.

Is that post-interview only or pre-interview as well? Thanks in advance! 🙂

I don't exactly recall him stating this. Since we were all interviewing, no one thought to ask if pre-II updates were appropriate. @Dean Mission has been intermittently active on this thread, so perhaps he could elucidate VCU's "update letter" preferences. 🙂
Best wishes!

Got the very interested status this morning. Complete July 15. Not getting my hopes up seeing how late it is but I'm glad someone finally reviewed my application.

I was complete around the same time and haven't had a status change yet. I hope this means they'll get to mine soon!

The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. We are trying to interview all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible if we have an adequate number of interview slots. Please anticipate an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date.

People have gotten this email and waited weeks? I thought this meant like a guaranteed interview sheesh what? Why say anticipate an email from us

I've had it since 9/23 so who knows haha.

Well it says "possible" so I take that as non-guaranteed. I got the message too, was excited, and after weeks have gone by I realized that I'm probably way down on the priority list. And if we're really down the priority list then we might not even get an II depending on how many other candidates decline their II's.

edit: i hate it too

Was complete around 7/25 and received "very interested" status early this morning! 🙂 Hopefully this turns into an interview?

Yeah this "very interested" status is starting to feel like nothing lol

So I know you have 7 minutes to answer each question, but how many of those minutes should you aim to spend speaking uninterrupted? They typically ask you questions after your spiel, right?

I haven’t interviewed at VCU, but at my MMI at a different school I averaged about 5 min per question out of 7 minutes total - that just seemed to be the proper amount of time. I didn’t really plan it that way, but you could aim for something similar if you are practicing.
