Were those people that were told to check portal accepted?

Yea, a number of them posted here, you can find their posts in previous pages. Also, many applicants from last year posted in the 2016-2017 thread.

Withdrew my application and canceled my interview today, good luck to everyone this cycle!

Haha unfortunately no, I actually got this name from another premed at my school that said he would only go to either Duke or Hopkins.
that's actually hilarious that you used that as your username. A buddy of mine I met freshman year told me he wouldn't settle for less than Harvard or Hopkins at the time. Now he's just tryna make it anywhere lol.

Yeah it's pretty funny, but this whole time I was worried that everyone on here thought I was an a**hole because of this username lol

Just cancelled interview and withdrew here. Best of luck to everyone!!

Pretty terrible feeling to have your school not want you for their medical school after working for 3.5 years to put together a great application.
Yeah its a salty feeling. Im not super worried since i know of a lot of IS people getting pulled off the waitlist last year. Hoping for the best in the next couple months.

Hey I need advice! I'm interviewing at WVU in a week, OOS, no strong ties, so I'm expecting that waitlist if I go. I've had a few interviews throughout the fall that went well, but no acceptance yet. I have completely refundable transportation/hotel and timing is very bad for work/school/family etc. Is it worth it or am I crazy for even asking?

To be honest, it is really hard to answer! Even though a little bit less than 50% of the class is OOS, it is difficult to speculate whether you will be accepted or not.
However, if you have a high GPA, high MCAT, and you are interested in rural medicine and community service, I would say you have a good shot at being accepted.

If I were you, I would go and take my chances. but that is just me.

I'd say skip. If money isn't the big factor and it doesn't impact you too much to go, then go. An interview is an interview at the end of the day. I have a Lizzy of 72, very community service focused in my app, and I feel as though I bonded hella well with my interviewers. But, I was, as expected being OOS and no ties to the state, waitlisted. If you feel like your other interviews went well and you've got a good shot of acceptance, then I'd skip this school since you're more than likely gonna get WL.

Does WVU weigh gpa or mcat higher? If anyone knows.

I am a current MS1 who was waitlisted, so I can share my experience with this. Obviously a low MCAT will be an issue, but I feel that they highly value a high GPA. I had an 80th percentile MCAT. I spoke with Dr. Nield about my app after being waitlisted. Other schools took issue with my MCAT, but WVU said my MCAT was perfectly acceptable. As a reminder, the average MCAT at WVU is 507, which is lower than many other medical schools. However, my lower than average GPA was a concern (though I did have an upward trend). Dr. Nield told me that they have found students with low GPAs tend to not finish medical school within 4 years. From my conversation with her, it seemed that GPA was very important to the school and was a good indicator of medical school performance.

503 MCAT w/ 3.8 sGPA + cGPA. What are yours? Best of luck in the interview
506 MCAT, 3.6 GPA, an absolute ton of research experience and direct patient contact (inpatient and outpatient)... also interested in both global and rural health. WVU is my top choice school for lots of reasons.

I'm not sure if this question has been answered already, but I was wondering what the average time it took was to hear back from WVU (whether rejection or interview offer) after submitting your secondary? From what I've read on here it seems that it mostly appears to be around 2 weeks. Is this true or does it just vary, coming when it will come? Just curious! Thanks! 🙂

I think 2 -3 weeks is relatively accurate based on my experience and the posts from this thread.

In their confirmation email it says you should expect a decision in 2-3 weeks. I heard in 2 weeks.

Yeah they really are one of the speedier schools. I heard in 5 days or so. They also pretty much stick to the same 2 weeks to let you know of decision me after the interview. I think this is top notch, especially for someone with a family like me that requires more planning to move so I can sell my house and such. Very much appreciated!

I would say it is more around 3-4 weeks. Took mine 3 weeks exactly, but I am IS, not sure how they go about doing IS vs OOS.

Chiming in, I got my II a week after I submitted my secondary, and I'm a very very average applicant so I think it depends on how bogged down they are with other applications. I do enjoy the fact that this school responds so quickly (unlike most other schools out there...reject me already god dammit!)

On another note, the initial II email only includes information about "Interview Day in Morgantown". For those that interviewed at Charleston, did you receive more information specific for that campus?

Had my interview today and WOW what a top notch school and I absolutely loved my faculty interviewer he was a very kind man and I left wishing we had more time. Very positive day...but I am OOS so I guess I can just hope.

Had an interview notification within two weeks of a LATE submission, got lucky they didn't need LOR for interview invitation. Late interview date, though.
