Waitlisted today, but I feel good about my chances. Really enjoyed the interview day, and I appreciate how quickly the admissions office moves to give feedback.
 
When submitting the pre-interview form and writing the section on "medical career interests and goals", does anyone have any insight on what reasonable response length would be? I didn't see an indicated length but I definitely don't want to significantly under- or over-shoot what other candidates are doing so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I wrote a small paragraph... nothing too elaborate or crazy.

I just wrote a small paragraph about my current interests and where I see myself in the future. Just focus on answering the question clearly and provide an explanation to your answer in a concise way.

I am not sure how they specifically view LGBTQ applicants during WVU SOM admission. My guess is that it won't have any impact. However, the school, in general, is inclusive and open to minorities. That was especially apparent in the last few years when they introduced "One WVU" motto.

Side note, I am not sure how they will know that the applicant is LGBTQ if you did not specifically mention that during the interview.

Nope. I got an II in september (withdrew pre-II) and I wrote about a fictional tv character.

There's a LGBTQ interest group in the medical school (for those who identify, their friends, and family). There's also a new program started this year during MS3 during pediatric rotation to help all medical students learn how to help LGBTQ identifying kids and their family members (one of the faculty on the admission committee is a also a founding faculty member of this pediatric LGBTQ awareness program). There are LGBTQ faculty. I wouldn't say West Virginia as a state is progressive about LGBTQ issues, however, anyone who identifies at WVU won't have any issues (I never saw any issues, but if they did exist, classmates, faculty and admin would help address any problems that occur - there's a lot of support).

If you're asking specifically about interviewees, it won't affect things one way or the other. Who you are as a person is what they care about.

During my interview I was never asked any questions that would even slightly give someone an indication of my gender identity or sexual orientation. There's no way they would be aware of these things unless you wrote about it in your application, and if you DID write about it in your application then they must have liked you or viewed it neutrally since you have a II! 🙂 The interview day is really relaxed and nice. They even brought the medical student service dog into the room for pets and snuggles while we waited for our interviews!
 
On interview day, did they mention that the Waitlist movement will begin to slowly trickle around the Christmas holidays and the New Year, but majority will occur in April? I believe this is what they said on my day, just want to verify and see if anyone else had similar comments.

Mhmm, at mine they mentioned in-state applicants would probably see some movement in December, and most movement will be April. This is going to be a long wait.
 
Pleasantly surprised by the Charleston campus and really enjoyed the interview here! I'm bracing myself for waitlist since I'm OOS but I'm thrilled to have been given the opportunity to interview, especially since my application did not have anything to do with rural health 🙂 good luck to everyone else out there!
 
Where on the portal is the decision letter? Got the email to check but cant find it anywhere
 
Does anyone remember where we should upload the thank you letters to our interviewers?

edit: jk found it

edit 2: did you guys use the same thank you letter for both interviewers? i pretty much talked about the same things with both of them, except for maybe one experience

I would suggest doing entirely different letters. Otherwise it may come off as cookie cutter.

I disagree. If you're first letter is sincere and original, a copy of it should come across that way also. In addition, it won't affect you in the admission process. I didn't write any thank you letters and was accepted.

Hmm...So I ended up changing the first paragraph and my closing statement. I kept the middle one the same because I wanted to say the same thing to both of them but I wasn't going to completely rewrite it. We'll see what happens, I guess...

I'd think that'd be okay. I can't imagine your interviewers will be comparing their thank-yous 🙂

I basically used the same letter twice. I think I changed up maybe 3 sentences.

Yeah I didn't write any letters and was accepted.
 
I'm so anxious right now lol thinking about the adcom meeting right now. I wish I could know now if I was accepted or not so I could decide if it's worth studying for my final that's tomorrow :nailbiting:

Me too! After three mediocre interviews, I thought I actually did somewhat well in this one. That said, I am OOS, so I'm going to keep my expectations low
 
Anyone hear back today? From last week.
 
I assume everybody gets the favorably impressed line
