Question on the "snapshot" of activities and achievements: Did anyone put the months along with the year? Or just the year(s) for each activity and achievement?

Should I include my entire work history? I'm kind of confused on what to list.

I just did the year like they had in the example within the secondary. I listed more little things since we weren't limited to the AMCAS 15, too.

For those that got interviews or are incoming students, I am really stressing the Why Yale essay right now with different beginnings and endings. Did you guys go for the straightforward approach or did any one try to be "different" ?

Trying to be clever, creative, unique can fall flat and might come off as annoying to admissions I hear, so I am leaning towards being straightforward. Just curious what are thoughts on this 🙂 thanks!

So I have an interview scheduled, but obviously have not been accepted or anything, so take this with a grain of salt. I think my answer to the why Yale essay was straightforward, but I also really tried to make it personal and explain why Yale is such an amazing fit for me. I basically decided on the three top things I like about Yale and then I integrated my personal experiences to explain why those things were my favorite/would set me up well to achieve my goals.

Hi Everyone!

I'm sorry for the spammy post in all the school specific threads 🙁 - but I wanted to plug my interview invite tracker! If you haven't seen it, I'm compiling data on the current application cycle to reproduce planeblue's exercise (Planeblue's Interview Invite Tracker)

and get some info on GPA/MCAT, IS/OOS, and URM/ORM for those receiving invites. Maybe we can use it to help future applicants build better school lists!

If you'd like to add info on your interview invite to Yale and any others and haven't already, fill out the Google Form here - 2017/18 MD Interview Invite Tracker

If you have already - a tremendous thanks to you!

Also, for those who haven't received an II yet - hang in there! It is still incredibly early and there are plenty more invites coming our way!

Yep I did the same thing. Basically, I like X about Yale and it's a good fit for me because of Y personal experience. I did that for 3 paragraphs.

+2. I talked about pretty straight forward reasons for Why Yale, but I elaborated pretty extensively on my personal experiences that coincided with why I liked those things about Yale.

I was initially a little worried about putting dates/stats on the tracker but after seeing the sheer number of (obvious) trolls on there, I felt very inclined to pull the averages down a little bit. Don't be discouraged guys/gals!

Sorry if I don't follow - did you make phony entries to reduce averages?

Although there may be some trolling, I don't want to assume everyone on the internet is a liar and that all 578 data points are invalid

Hey all II people! Congrats 🙂

Our interview hosting request system isn't up yet as far as I know, so if you guys haven't gotten an email about it by the time travel arrangements are getting made and need a place to stay, pm me and I'll try to connect you to me/classmate.

So whats the deal with student housing for interview day. Does Yale ask for hosts to evaluate people staying with them?

What do you mean by "evaluate people staying with them"? If you mean if Yale asks students who wants to host and what dates they're available, then yes, that's how it works. It's run by the first-year class, some poor souls volunteer their time to do the coordination during the entire interview season

I think what he means is if the adcoms have the student hosts evaluate the interviewees that stay with them for admissions purposes.

Absolutely not. Honestly, the student who have any feedback in admissions are taking their 5th years, and most of the people hosting are 1st years. There just isn't that pipeline to provide feedback, short of passing a post-it note to the director of admissions, which I suppose I would do ONLY if someone made blatantly bigoted comments or left actual property damage. Slight awkwardness, an off colour joke, snoring, etc are pretty easily brushed off as jitters.

Interviewees tend to far overestimate people's commitment/desire to ratting out people. We honestly want the best for you, and will show you the neighbourhood if we have time.

Aw hell naw. That's something only Hopkins would do (and does).

...jk lol

When is the earliest interview date for you guys?

If you can arrange an II, I will let you know dates ASAP.

Lolol I don't think I can help you there.

the most I know at this point is how to take your blood pressure after having a sensitive conversation regarding psychosocial and structural determinants of health.

We are essentially still in orientation until aug 28 when biochem begins

Also our sim center is cool and you should come to Yale

And my identity has been discovered by @TaroMilkT , but I still don't know who the other Yale SDNers are.

I'd like to remind everyone now that II season has started that it is an absolute mystery as to the order in which each and every school chooses to screen applications for interview. Literally nobody knows how it's done. Being complete early is good because it qualifies you in the pool to be reviewed at some point, but being complete earlier or later does not mean your app is going to be reviewed earlier or later than anyone else. Every school has its own procedures and they're complete mysteries. Anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing at best and inducing neuroticism at worst. Good luck all

I am currently working at Yale Medical school and applying this cycle. *Fingers crossed*. It was actually really cool to see the M1's move in. (I walked by it several times) You all looked so happy... I can only hope that will be me next year. 😛

Just go party with the MS1s. It's guaranteed to get you in but only if you pick the right friends. So don't hang out with people like @Cigar or @Iz_FtB or @TaroMilkT and you'll be fine

We keep Harkness cool even though there's no AC and please help me

Girl I'm from the south where no AC is a death sentence. I'm definitely not used to this. The dorm rooms are fine at night, but sometimes in the morning and early afternoon it's just too much heat in there. Not really an issue most of the time because I'm in class or doing something, but on weekends I have to vacate.
