Same. So this is just a general email and our apps probably haven't been set aside right?

Anybody apply last year and get a secondary with essays? Just got an email saying they got my app and would review it and contact me

Now they sent me "Your application has been reviewed and at this moment we would like to bring your application to the Pre-Screen Committee for an in depth review. We are very interested in your candidacy and will be discussing your application within the next few weeks."

Just got this email as well!

My application is on hold till I get my MCAT score on July 3rd. Do you mind posting the essays? I am hoping they are the same as last years

Briefly describe how you are a good fit for the CUSOM Mission

What five qualities do you feel you bring to CUSOM that would enhance the overall climate of our school?
Please describe how you are a good fit for the CUSOM mission.

Osteopathic medicine parallels allopathic medicine but has principles and practices that are distinct. Which of these principles and practices are of greatest interest to you and why?

Have you submitted an application to another medical school within the last two years? If so, to what medical school(s) did you apply, and what improvements have you made to your application? Have you ever applied to CUSOM?

For the last one, do you include the other schools you applied to this cycle?

I got the same email. I wonder why

I got that same email that they were "very interested in my candidacy" and this morning I got an email saying I've been denied due to a low MCAT score. Seems like they screen - your MCAT must be above 500 (mine was) but each section has to be 40% or greater (mine weren't). Hopefully another school will see past this 🙂 Good luck, everyone!!

Rejected last week for MCAT

So don't even bother applying here if MCAT is under 500? I just received my MCAT scores and got a 499 🙁 (126/123/126/124). My cumulative GPA is 3.97. I'm not sure what my calculated science GPA is but I made all A's except for 1 B in organic chem 1 so it should be ~3.9. I'm from North Carolina and I'm currently working as a scribe at Southeastern Health which has residency programs affiliated with Campbell. The EM program director wrote me a great LOR. Will I definitely be screened out even with a 3.9 GPA? I am planning on retaking Sept 8th, is this too late to still submit an application?

I would call them to clarify. If I'm not mistaken, they have a 497 minimum for the MCAT, so you should be fine in that respect

I just checked on their website and it does say 497/40th percentile as the minimum, but each section has to be 40th percentile or greater as mentioned before. My CARS and P/S are just below 40th percentile, so I guess I'll be retaking in September.

Now it makes sense as to why I was interviewed last year.

I believe if your CARS is below 40th percentile they take your application to a special committee to determine whether to move you forward in the application process. I fall in that category which is why I think I haven’t been denied yet lol

If only my P/S wasn't 39% 🙁

I'm in the same boat as you and got that email as well. Did you ask admissions? Or is that info somewhere on their website? I'm just confused since some people are getting rejected for their MCAT, but some aren't, even though their composite score is low/they have a low section.

I emailed CUSOM admissions. They were very quick to respond and super helpful! They will not take any MCAT with C/P or B/B lower than 40%. If CARS or P/S is lower than 40% then they will send the application to a Prescreen Committee to review for an exception.

So there is hope for me with my 39% P/S and 35% CARS lol! I am retaking though, just trying to decide what date.

Oh wow thanks for letting me know! That's great, so there's hope for those of us that might have CARS or P/S lower than that score.

Got the interview call today! Will be there next week on Tuesday, 7/10. Anyone know how interviews tend to go? Stats are 3.8 cGPA, 3.7 sGPA and 507 MCAT

Thanks! So yeah, if anyone has any advice for their interview, I would greatly appreciate it. Pretty nervous haha!

Hey! Current CUSOM student here. Just wanted to drop in and congratulate y'all for applying and making it this far. Campbell is an awesome school and WILL get you to your (realistic) goals as a physician.

Your interview will be done by three faculty members, everyone is super here, but they will scan your application inch to inch so make sure you can talk about everything in it! I remember being asked very open ended questions, as they wanted to see if I could keep the conversation alive. Don't be nervous, just know your stuff and be charming! Also - Campbell is a very different DO school. Although private, they really want students who want to practice in North Carolina, yes rural PC (primary care), but NC > PC interest. In your interview make sure you highlight why you want to be in NC and at Campbell. Again, this is what I have noticed by talking to peers and faculty.

What to look forward to at CUSOM:
  • 100% Match Rates. Our grads match well, and score well on the USMLE's (COMLEX is yesterdays news, sorry :/). They will show you the USMLE stats at the interview.
  • Many local CU residency programs (PC to GS/DERM) - think connections! I would say one of the few new schools that has its **** together in regards to creating residencies.
  • They are a well established university in NC and the south. They have a Pharmacy, Nursing, PA, and Law School (for post grad programs), everyone is well integrated. Actually this past week, Medicine and Law announced the JD/DO degree, only one DO school offered it before. We are #2.
  • State of the art health campus facilities, and by the time y'all matriculate a new student union will be open (Search Campbell University Student Union). So if you're a gym freak or like to study on campus :soexcited:
  • Amazing weather. The beach is 1.5hrs away (Search Wrightsville or Wilmington) and mountains about 3.5-4hrs (Blue Ridge/Asheville).
But now, I'll tell y'all my favorite thing about Campbell. The location. WTF RURAL?! Nooooo I love being close to the research triangle. Many students at Campbell have now started to take advantage of UNC SOM and Duke SOM. I see more and more peers talking about research work and/or conference/lectures they attend there. The networking and resume building potential for post ACGME match is great here.

Truly though, the rural life isn't something you will even notice, Raleigh and Chapel Hill are easy drives if you ever need to go let loose downtown or on Franklin Street.

I hope this helps, I know we are a newer school and not much information is floating around SDN about us. Hopefully this excites you even more about Campbell! Good luck on your interview!

Everyone, feel free to ask questions about CUSOM!

P.S. sorry if there are any spelling or grammar mistakes I am typing on a tablet. 🙂

Is there any GPA pre-secondary screen, for OOS? I saw you all had a MCAT screen

Thank you, @CUDO ! That was very helpful! Would you say it is a comfortable interview session?

I would say so! Just remember if at any interview you feel an interviewer is cornering you with a question, stick with your original answer. Just have good evidence for why you chose your answer.

I would also recommend following Campbell Medicine on Instagram often and will give you topics to talk about!

Has anyone who got the Pre-screen Committee email heard anything back? I'm still waiting.

Yes! I got the same pre screen email, but they sent me a secondary this past Friday. Maybe you'll hear soon!

I’m still waiting as well. Just twiddling my thumbs....

How long after you were verified in AACOMAS did it take to get the email that your application was being reviewed?

I received the initial "application received" email this afternoon. A couple minutes after that, I received an email for an invitation to submit a secondary!! I can't believe it, I'm so excited!
