Secondary received and submitted!

It's just a form to fill out demographic info, what specialties you're interested in, and whether or not you took online classes

Did you receive an email after you submitted the secondary confirming that they have received it?

not an email of receipt, but an email confirming payment

Me too. I was a little concerned since there wasn't any confirmation email about having submitted the secondary, and when I logged back in, the site said I didn't pay the fee.

Hopefully we get an email tomorrow. I also checked, 2018Premed, and it said that I did not pay or submit the secondary.
I doubled checked again just now, and when I hit the submit button, it told me my secondary was successfully submitted and did not mention that I didn't pay the fee. Maybe it took some time to process the payment.

Just saw that! Great!

Does anyone know what it means when the current status of my UB app says "Request Secondary"? My letter is not in yet, so could this be it? I already submitted my secondary and they acknowledged its receipt a few days ago.

Where do you see the status?

Can any current students comment how much of an advantage do UB undergrads/locals have over others here? I heard that there was a huge bias at this school, like brown

Not a student, but I interviewed here this past spring. Almost everyone is from NY, and at least half are from upstate. I'm pretty sure UB undergrads would get a boost. I don't see why not.

Unsure about UB undergrads, but WNY residents have a huge advantage this year. One of the reasons for expanding the class size by 25%, from 144 to 180 students was specifically to combat the physician shortage in WNY. If you look up some articles on the school you'll hear about this. Here's two from UB encouraging first years to stay in WNY and the dean stating that they want to "attract students here and keep students here." I would be sure to reflect on some good reasons for staying.

Hochul’s message to medical students: Stay in WNY - UB Now: News and views for UB faculty and staff - University at Buffalo

UB medical school's move downtown and its potential to improve health care in the city - UB Now: News and views for UB faculty and staff - University at Buffalo

Definitely agree with the above poster. At my interview there were many people that were NY residents, went to undergrad in NY and are looking to stay, or out of state students with pretty significant ties to western N.Y. They really want to educate doctors that are going to serve this community.

Anyone else getting an error message when they try to pay?

From the MSAR:
IS applicants/interviews/matriculated: 1965 /377/ 154
OOS: 1858/ 231/ 26

154 vs 26, so yeah, I think there's a bit of bias.

anyone know what the purpose of this question is: would you practice medicine in a rural community?
i dont really know at this moment

to weed out the people that say no
True, unfortunately. I doubt you have to be committed to that right now -- they just want people to be "open minded" to the idea.

Also, >50 schools, my guy? Sheeeeeeeeeeeesh

Ok, this might be stupid but I keep seeing everyone say that Buffalo's secondary doesn't have an essay...but the one I got does?

"In 500 words or fewer, please explain your reasons for applying to the University at Buffalo's Jacobs School of Medicine. Please be specific."

Did anyone else get this prompt?

I did not see that prompt. Now I’m scared I missed it

Yeah, I got this too. It is the very last question.

It definitely wasn't on the secondary when I completed it (7/2) and my application is still marked complete. Should I call James Rosso to see what's up?

This brings me peace and not go crazy that Im the only one who literally didn’t see it. I’m guessing maybe this question is only for OOS residents? Do you plan to call the dean today?

I'm IS...If somebody else doesn't call, I will because I'm kind of hoping this is some kind of mistake. I've got my letters in already so I was really looking forward to just submitting the form and being complete!

Just called him, he said that they added the question recently and that those who submitted early (who didn't have that additional question) will not be penalized or affected at all. We also don't have to submit anything else. But obviously if you do see that question and haven't submitted yet, you should do it.

I'm IS and it was at the bottom of the secondary email I received. I haven't opened up the link to complete the secondry yet so I'm not sure if it's on that

Thanks for calling! It’s kinda lame how they add stuff in the middle of the cycle and give us a mini heart attack!

is there anyway to check if our things have been received? i didnt get a confirmation or anything, just a receipt

So, I clicked on the link posted above to check my status and it says my app isn't complete even though I submitted everything about 6 days ago. Letters have been in since June. Not sure why it isn't complete. Should I contact them or wait it out?
