2019-2020 Midwestern University, with campuses in (Glendale, Arizona) AZCOM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've been complete since July 20th and haven't heard anything. Should I email them?

Anyone off the II WL recently?
I was on the first batch of WL and nothing yet. I'm guessing we'll start hearing something after Oct 15 when MD schools begin sending out acceptances and more spots open up.

Will be interviewing next week! Since the start time is 7:30 AM, was wondering if it is pretty easy to get an uber from a hotel to the campus that early in the morning?? Unfortunately, I am not used to driving so will not be able to rent a car 🙁

What day are you interviewing?? I’m going Wednesday

Ayyy got my first R from here today. Shame bc I'm AZ local and wanted to stay in state. W.e tho I've heard some silly things about here and think the average MCAT score matriculation here is way too high for DO. Best of luck to all!

mind sharing what "silly" things youve heard?

very vague description my apologies, but as discussed earlier in the thread I find the whole holding interviews (auto waitlist) thing silly. Other than that I'd likely have to sell an arm and a leg to complete my education here. Nothing crazy that hasn't been mentioned before. Maybe I'm frustrated at the hasty R, I'd likely ignore myself. We can call in to inquire why we got the R correct? Rather not continue to do what I apparently did wrong applying to this school lol

502 MCAT and GPA 3.34, mediocre DO stats. lots of clinical experience scribing 2.5 years, volunteering at 2 local churches for ~150 hours total. Sorry for the frustration all, this was just the first R this cycle :/

The first R is always the hardest, best of luck with the rest of the cycle! Keep your head up 🙂

Thank you for your kind words! I'm really hoping to get in somewhere as I'm already completing my second gap year. Currently dying with the finances involved with applying as I am doing it all on my own. Still have secondaries I need to complete and I'm already knees deep in loans 🙁( We'll all make it though! AT still hasn't responded to my secondary so fingers crossed, Thanks again!

Keep your head up, friend. I applied 3x before I got accepted and took a whopping 5 gap years. The struggle is real but worth it when you finally get that acceptance.

Not trying to be insensitive but.. when I was rejected last year, I looked critically at my application to see what it lacked so I could alleviate any concerns and I was actually accepted at western a couple weeks ago. If you think your stats are mediocre, you should probably consider taking some classes either postbac or grad level classes to show that you’re above what your stats say you are. I know someone who got into med school with a 2.8 but... she 4.0’d or almost 4.0’d all her postbac work in the prereq areas. I’m not saying your stats are horrible but... there are a lot of stories like my friend who bring the average down. Good luck with your other schools. Really wish you the best

Can any current students tell me a little about their experience thus far? Do you feel prepared to match into more competitive specialties? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! trying to figure out pros and cons of AZCOM, Western Lebanon, PNWU and ACOM.

Is it too late to add this to my primary? How late into the cycle is it for this school?

I'm a first year so I can't really speak to whether I'm prepared for match, I'm barely qualified to hold scalpel right now. Although, the match data I've seen seems like they have students match into a wide variety of specialties.

As for my experience, I like the environment, I feel like the professors really want us to succeed and I'm totally comfortable approaching any of them when I have questions. Of course, I don't know how that compares to other schools, maybe they're all like that. The testing schedule is absolutely brutal though!

If there are more specific questions you have, let me know happy to answer them.

can you expand on the exam schedule?

We just test A LOT. There's at least one test a week (I think we've had 2 weeks with no test the whole quarter). Often we have 2 tests a week and not that long ago had 3 in one week. And my understanding is that it only gets worse. I've read that Midwestern is notorious for its constant testing, and I can confirm.

Interviewed last Monday.. nothing
My friend who got in last year said hers took a couple weeks (she interviewed in September too) so I think it just depends on when they get to your app after the interview!

Anyone else with an interview invite this morning, and the earliest dates available were January?
Same with me. I am kind of scared of what that means because I feel like the date is so far away.

Edit: Actually I take it back. Looks like someone else got a II in Sept and had dates available 2 months later in Nov. Since it would be winter break 2 months later for us, I guess it's why they gave us 3 months.
