I wonder if they take pre-II letters of interest or updates haha
They do. I submitted one in November. Probably doesn't say much considering I haven't even been put on hold yet, and got no notice from the MSTP when they finished up interviews.

Do you think it helped you get an Interview?

There is a So you wanna be a physician event that OHSU is hosting in early March. Admissions, graduating MD students, etc will be there. May be a great idea to get some perspective. I'm going.
Oh I went to that last year, it was really informative. More for the next round of applications rather than those who already have an A.

No, considering I haven't gotten one yet! I don't think they really mean much, just lets them know that you still exist

Yep, I was on it two cycles ago! I think that was in Dec/January when I go the pre-II hold.

Last year I got an II in November and my application this year fixed everything they had an issue with lol so....my app is in the trash huh 🤔
It's possible they got rid of the pre-II hold. I haven't seen anyone on it this cycle

When I emailed them a while back, they mentioned "as you know, you are on hold". I don't have a hold in my file. Maybe they have holds on their end that we can't see? Glitch in the matrix?

What?! I wonder if we are all on pre-II hold and just don't know it!

If I was to receive an II, would it be for a spot on the waitlist?
They say that they interview for a seat in the class on their website, but they call it "modified rolling admission" so it probably means it's more likely you'll end up on the waitlist, but who knows. This info is from the FAQ on the Admissions page: Admissions | OHSU

They acept the top 10% of the interviewees and place the rest on Hold and then when they are done interviewing thye let everyone know their decision. So no it is not for the waitlist. It is for a spot!

Can confirm this as well. Also, remember, they offer between 220-250 acceptances each cycle and pull between 30-60 off of the waitlist each year. This indicates that there are likely between 20-40 people who have been accepted early in the cycle, declined their spot, and then had their spot offered to someone else by April 30. The process is still very much so ongoing.

Should I call and ask if they’re still offering IIs?

If it makes you feel better, sure.

This probably goes without saying, but realize that 1) they will likely be curt and refer you to the admission FAQs and 2) checking in won’t influence your odds of receiving an invite.

Your time and worry is better spent elsewhere IMO, but by all means call them if it’s important to you.

What do you think the percentage chances are of being accepted off hold at this point (In April or otherwise)? I know they accept roughly 40 percent of the people they interview, but how has that percentage changed for people on hold?

Anybody else with input on this? Thanks.

I wouldn’t. There was a data point last week with someone reporting an interview invite for late March with three days to respond. Invites will continue to roll out until a week ish before the last interview as folks start to decline interviews.

It’s probably pretty consistent at 40%. The good news is you’re not in the 10% that was declined post interview and that your application is still in play meaning your overall score indicates there’s a shot.

My guess is OHSU will probably need to offer more acceptances this year given the new program in California offering free tuition and the recent changes to step 1 impacting how folks are evaluating medical school reputation.

Is there an estimate as to which day in March is the last interview?

Just want to say that your posts are always top notch - some of the best this site has to offer. Very much appreciate your consistently excellent analysis!

Any MD/PhDs with an acceptance or a rejection post-II yet? Re-visit is in just a week so I would think that some would be hearing back.

Check your portal status. Emails were only sent if you were accepted IIRC, so you may either just be on hold or rejected if you have not received any correspondence. I think the majority of post-II decisions become holds and won't turn into a formal decision until late April, so it is unfortunate that the MD/PhD second visit is so early.

Oh yeah, I'm on hold, I suppose. That was only relayed to me on the portal as a message from the MD committee though and not MD/PhD. Confusing.
