Definitely not common , I don’t think any other schools waits so late
I'm also still waiting "under consideration" at Albany MC along with people who have been that way for 6+ months, so at least 1 other school does not have a wait list formed yet. Last year the latest I see people being accepted straight from "under consideration" via SDN was 4/24, and then it looks like they formed their wait list on 4/29, so that's not so different than OHSU.

+1. Interviewed at AMC in October, UC in November, still waiting.

Is it common for schools to get back to applicants so late? I only interviewed at OHSU so I'm curious if other schools typically dump decisions en masse on/around the 30.
AFAIK, it is not at all common... OHSU is notoriously late to release decisions. n = 1 but all the schools I've interviewed at released a decision (i.e. A, R, WL) within 2-3 months or set one date in March to release ALL decisions. FYI - I found out I was accepted at OHSU when I checked the portal; I received the A email about 3-5 days after.

Interesting, thanks for the insight here. I love OHSU but their timing has really rubbed me the wrong way....

Do you think OHSU also hands out a larger proportion of holds? I was surprised to learn that they acct for 80% of interview outcomes but again, I don't really have anything to compare it to.

That's gonna be a no from me dawg. Most normal schools tell you within 1-2 months or set a specific date that's NOT the very end of the cycle so, you know, we can actually make life decisions. The fastest decision I got was under 2 weeks after my interview and the slowest was 2 months.

Agreed. I love OHSU, but IMO their admissions process could... uh... use some work. That being said, I don't think that reflects the great quality of education and opportunities there at all. The physicians I work with also think highly of OHSU grads.

I was put on hold for a couple months as well. Interviewed early September --> put on hold mid-November --> accepted early January. Strange. I do think it's unusual that they put so many applicants on hold, but if I had to guess, they just want to know everyone before accepting too many in order to create a "well-rounded" class.

The purpose of the holds is so that they can evaluate applicants as more interviews are conducted instead of only considering early interviewees. Where many schools interview quite early and extend most if not all offers of admission by January, OHSU gives late interviewees a fair chance because of the hold. IMO, it sucks for applicants that interview early and are on a long hold, but is beneficial for folks who interview late since there are still many seats remaining.

Giving up my spot, GL everyone.

It's like they know how much prospective students love them and play "hard to get" lol

Sooooo kinda like chatting with someone on Tinder who is a bit off-putting and slightly full of themselves, but they're hot and you don't have any other matches so you just kinda play along with their antics. Got it.

The short answer is no.

Is it common for schools to get back to you 12+ weeks after your interview? No. My wait time post-interview from the other places I interviewed at was 4 weeks (Can you believe how soon that is?!) to 8.5 weeks. I'd say the average range hovered around 8 weeks.

Is it common for there to be some type of movement or official communication to applicants who have been "deferred" or put on a post-interview hold or an official waitlist around or after April 30th? Yes, because of the AAMC traffic rules of applicants having to narrow down their acceptances to 1.

I really dislike how OHSU does it - but the one silverlining is how transparent they are with your spot on the waitlist. The majority of my other schools do not do that.

Hey All,
Current MS2 here. I answered some questions earlier in this thread about OHSU and am happy to answer more, feel free to reply here or DM me!
Couple of things I've seen discussed- summer break used to not exist, and is now 1 week. The curriculum is fast paced, but you get used to it.

Also, please don't judge OHSU based off of the slow admissions process! Please keep in mind that the doctors that work on the admissions team are also working to teach current medical students, instruct residents, and take care of patients. The med school admin here is actually extremely malleable to student needs, and very responsive!

As a low-ish (3.5/511) stat (MD-wise) applicant, I'd rather apply to a slow school like OHSU that looks at you holistically. Plenty of other schools will get you an answer by November, but the entire admissions team likely sees you as two, three-digit numbers. OHSU admissions team takes a lot of precautions so that does NOT happen, as evidenced by how the admission team blinds themselves to your stats after a certain point.

As one of the many here waiting on OHSU as their only shot, I'm glad just to be considered, despite the stress this last week (especially) has brought.

Nah, my wig is still intact and I have enough makeup for one more day

at least we’re ready for it

Congrats for those accepted today. Did you all receive any information on financial aid?
Thanks
Received my acceptance email yesterday afternoon around 2:00, they said more information would be sent soon! So no financial aid yet but my FAFSA has already been filed and sent to OHSU so it shouldn't be long!
