2019-2020 Ponce

Thank you! What did you think about the interview? Stressful?
The interview was fairly relaxed and mostly like a conversation. There was no "grilling" or really difficult questions. However, I think this varies, as I've heard from others that the interviewer was hard on them, but the most I've heard is that it's pretty chill.

Yup, I interviewed there a few days ago and agree it was fairly relaxed. Thanks!!

Is there any detriment to a Skype interview for Ponce ?

Submitted Primary 10.14.19 and finally got my Secondary yesterday, Dec. 6th.19.

I called to ask about fee waiver as a FAP applicant and apparently would not consider me since I took MCAT 4x (max is 3). I was not aware of this and should have looked into it before applying.

Best of luck to the rest of you!

Im so sorry to hear that. Im guessing they never answered the fee waiver question though?

It's all good. I'm fortunate to still have one MD interview coming up where I interviewed last cycle as well.

Ponce informed me they do not waive the fee and that's when she told me about the total MCAT attempts to be considered so it would not be worth my time. I appreciated the transparency and for saving me money. I wish that should of been in the secondary email. Only school I've heard this from tbh.

Anyone know where we can find the match lists for PHSU? Can’t seem to find them.

Does anyone know when Ponce stops interviewing? Is it April?

Has anyone been invited to interviews or just heard anything from Ponce?

I interviewed 1st week of December and was accepted last week via email. Good luck to everyone!

Received a II this afternoon scheduled for 2/22. Not going to take it as it's not even a 2 week notice.

Would you mind sharing your stats? I haven’t heard from Ponce, but I did hear that they reach those with lower MCAT’s towards the end and I’m wondering if that’s true.

510, 3.6, OOS and URM.

Idk why I thought they do skype interviews or I thought I read that somewhere. But at this point I have other acceptance and I don't really want to spend more money traveling.

Understandable. Thank you lots for answering!

I have a group interview soon and am a bit anxious from seeing mixed responses about what to expect. For non-native speakers they said that they will be testing our Spanish, but what will that be like? Should I prepare writing materials?

For me the interview was completely in spanish and one question in english

You’ll have a separate conversation with someone to gauge your Spanish competency. What do you mean by writing materials? Don’t stress too much, pal!

Thank you so much! I was a little confused because I wasn't sure if it would be a writing test so I wanted to be prepared haha. I'm OOS/non-native speaker so I'm a bit anxious about not being able to completely convey my thoughts during the group interview but all I can do is my best!

I cannot find the secondary?? I only see MD (advance standing) does anyone know where I can do the secondary??

What do people think of Ponce vs UCC vs San Juan Bautista in terms of 1) better overall school 2) better step scores 3) better residency match ? Thank guys and good luck!

Hello,
I have the same question. I have heard that Ponce is the best of the three but I would like to have more information.
Thank you guys!

Last year a medical student from UPR- RCM told me in step scores goes UPR>SJB>UCC>PONCE. But that doesn't matter much because it may be pass or fail for your class. Match Rate is 88-90% in all the schools that vary from year to year.

Pros from SJB it required a research publication before graduating, at least obligated you will have research. It is also very focused on you getting community service and it uses NBME exams, SJB is accredited until 2026-2027 I think and way cheaper than the others. Collaboration with the menonitas hospital.
Ponce's pros are bigger class size, pass or fail grading system with honors, flip classroom so classes are more discussions that learning (maybe a con depends on the person), big location and facilities, AOA, accredited until 2024. Has a PHD program so it has research opportunities

UCC pros: AOA

CONS
Ponce: Flipped classroom, pretty expensive, low step score compare to others, far from la metro where big hospitals are, big class more competition for AOA
SJB: no AOA, little underrated in Puerto Rico
UCC: Pretty expensive, accreditation is in probation

Cons of the three: low tier medical school, little to almost none residency programs associated with the school

AOA just matter if you think you can be a top-five to ten percent in your class
AOA is the medical school honor association
