Gotcha. Looks like there is some back log going on. I was complete Sept 9th and still on committee review. I guess patience really is a virtue lol.

Just got a file review complete email about an hour ago. Complete since late July... hoping for an II!

To confirm, is the dedicated step 1 prep time for VCU 3 months? If so, are students allowed to chose what they do with their time if they finish step 1 early?

No- 3 months seems too long from my recollection. Although it may appear that way on some online form, I remember them saying it was roughly 8 weeks or so for dedicated. You can schedule it within the timeframe and spend your free time as you like before clerkships.

Pretty sure it’s 6 weeks but you can arrange your schedule to combine that time with a 2 week break for a total of 8 weeks if you want.

Wooo chile, I just checked my portal on a whim and my review is finally complete. I never got an email, and I swore before that I might have been complete and then switched back to a sub-committee review?

That actually makes me kinda nervous and I don’t like it. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN, VCU?!

Do they accept update letters/what email did you send it to? Thanks!

Hey guys, has anyone who had interviewed on 11/5 or 11/6 received a status update on their portal yet? I was expecting to get a status update some time last week since they told us on our interview day that the committee will be meeting next on the 18th, but I noticed that I still haven't gotten an update.

My portal updated with a hold this afternoon.

I interviewed 11/5 and my status changed to on hold for acceptance sometime between 4:45 pm and 6:30 pm today.

Oh ok! So it's not crazy that the status didn't change last week. Thanks guys!!

Just checked the portal and it says file review complete. Didn't get an email, complete end of august. Any idea how long it takes to get a decision ?

It completely depends on your score you could get an interview on Monday or rejected pre-II in March. There’s no way to know. They have scheduled most of their interviews.

Did anyone here who got their decision on 10/16 get waitlisted after getting the "on hold for possible future acceptance" message in their portal? I'd be interested to know the rough proportion of people who got accepted vs deferred vs waitlisted after having this message in their portal.

I don’t think anyone gets waitlisted until the spring in late March / April. If you’re rejected, you will likely know within 1-3 weeks of your interview from what I understand. Otherwise, you’re on hold for a possible future acceptance which means you will either get accepted at the next date at which they release decisions or you’ll continue to be on-hold. They will evaluate all on-hold applicants after the last decisions release date has passed and will form a waitlist and reject the rest.

I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but does VCU accept updates?
No updates pre-II. They will accept updates post-interview but if you’ve already been scored and are on-hold for a possible acceptance, I would just wait until March. If you recently interviewed and have not been scored, I would send it in as soon as possible.

Someone above answered this correctly but. A small fraction of interviewees are rejected post-II this means you failed the interview. Everyone else is put on hold for possible acceptance. Your best chance of getting in is the first time, only a few people get in on here on later dates if they are deferred. In march there is a group of on hold for possible of acceptance with hundreds of people in it-- that pool is shrunk to 250 and made into the al;ternate list.

Did you get waitlisted ? Like another poster said, the waitlist is created in March...but schools can do what they want lmao

No, the waitlist is not formulated until March. People were either accepted or they heard nothing on 10/16

Thanks for this information. Hoping for some love.

I interviewed on 10/15, so my decision would come on 12/16. I should have made that clear before.

Meant to post this earlier. Secondary submitted August 24th, rejected (pre-interview) October 22nd. For what it's worth. Good luck, candidates!

Hi @Dean Mission,
Could you please provide information on how many in-state applicants get accepted each year? MSAR states that there were 277 instate applicants interviewed last year and 105 of them matriculated but it provides no information on the number accepted.
Also, are VCU undergraduate students given any sort of preference?
Thank you!

They give our approximately 300 acceptances.

I think VCU yield is 300 ball park acceptance to have class of 184 matriculants. I think you can consider 150-160 ball park acceptance out of those 300 to be in state. Also ball park 40 acceptance from 300 to be VCU undergrads. Ball park VCU has about 200 pre med students applying to MD programs to US based allopathic schools. They may be having about 20 VCU undergrads matriculating in class of 184 final matrculants. I think there is huge VCU undergrad bias. Also huge bias towards non medicine or non clinical related service hours, which they counsel there pre meds durine under grad years. For e.g. teaching or mentoring to underpriviledged kids. Giving service in soup kitchen. Etc ... So VCU undergrads have that advantage to be counseld about it so they are aware to be proactive to mention in applications and interview and encash that advantage. 20 out of those 40 acceptance of VCU class may be there own VCU GMEDs. Ball park of 10 VCU GMED will matriculate. 10 VCU non GMED pre med will matriculation in class of 184. Hope this helps.

You seem to really like ball parks

If I get accepted I’m taking a shot every time you say ballpark.
