Did you get the secondary, or just the acknowledgment of receipt of the primary? If you got the secondary can you post the question?
They send a we got your primary email, then you get an actual email with the secondary invitation

Why are their secondaries so LONG
50 schools? My dude or dudet that is quite a commitment. The secondaries are long but they are really great ones to spend a lot of time on. For me at least, it helped me answer a lot of the questions I have seen from other schools.

Has anyone who has submitted gotten a confirmation email?

Yeah I'm kind of annoyed by the 400 word MINIMUM... how am I supposed to repurpose essays when 10 schools have different length requirements :yeahright:
got my secondary invite yesterday afternoon, AMCAS verified 6/17

By looking at their mission, values, and MSAR, it seems like VT is a very research-heavy school. If I'm an OOS applicant that has more experience with community service, is it worth applying?

It seems like they care about region too. I wouldn’t if you’re not from one of the neighboring states or have extensive research or ties to the state

Ouf first R of the cycle because my MCAT is 3 months too old by their guidelines. What an odd month to cutoff on.

Good luck to everyone else and their application cycles! This secondary was brutal so thank god I pushed it off

Was this prior to receiving secondary or after ?

Mine is from January 2017 too :arghh:

Does anyone think me submitting one day past the encouraged 2 week deadline will be significant? Received on 7/6 and submitted today (7/21), I just get worried that submitting outside of the 2 week frame might raise a flag on an application - curious for any thoughts

Probably not! It is obviously better to submit sooner rather than later, but 1 day over the encouraged 2 week deadline should be fine. I am submitting my secondary right at the 2 week suggested deadline

The answer of this is a big NO. It doesn’t matter at all.

Anyone know if any II have been sent out yet/if not when that might happen?

Not sure if any have been sent out yet, but last year the first one reported on SDN was sent on 7/25 so hopefully they will be starting soon!

Does anyone more neurotic than me want to call and ask if they'll be sending out IIs this week?

Okay y'all I was literally driving myself crazy so I finally decided to call. I come bearing good news for our sanity. There is no August Interview date this year, the first interview day will be in September. So the nice admissions lady on the phone let me know that interview invites will most likely not be sent out for about two more weeks.

God bless you kind sir

Just curious, how do you know they care about region? is this stated somewhere? Obviously being a public school they take a majority VA residents but you think the others are probably from surrounding states mostly?

Take a look at MSAR my dude 🙂 will answer all of those questions.

from MSAR - you can see most of their med students come from surrounding states

Hmm, I guess that's worth noting but theres some "correlation is not causation" to it if I may. I imagine a lot of non-t20 schools have similar looking maps being that students who get in somewhere close-ish to home will often choose it over a further away school

Looking at it dawg. 53% were from OOS and it states that they take OOS students and I don't see anywhere listing a preference for students from neighboring states. Is there something you're referring to that I'm missing?

I was just referring to the map that someone posted above showing that it is not neighboring states really that they pull from. My friend that got in last year is a California resident!! I have never heard them say anything about favoring those in the region for OOS— but you definitely have to be prepared to commit to be in Roanoke a very small rural town. That’s more what they’re looking for than where you’re coming from.

Gotcha, well limeyguydr seemed to be implying that he thought the map indicated a regional preference but I'm not sure I agree. I was wondering if you were suggesting this as well. But yeah I'm with you that I don't really see any evidence of that being the case!

Here’s what I think. VTECH is very mission driven. They care about research research and more research. They look for OOS people who believe in their mission. The map IMO shows people are from all over. Yes there are a lot of east coasters but that’s because they’ve probably heard of the school and would be more willing to be in Virginia. If you’re OOS and really believe and can show you believe in the research mission then I think you are good.
