2019-2020 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It even says on the website that interviews won’t fill up before the application deadline which is December 31st...
It's always been fake nonrolling. If u want nonrolling, u look at everyone's app after the deadline before sending any invites.

I always took the fake nonrolling to mean that they take the highest scores and GPAs first in a rolling manner, then they do nonrolling with the rest of the folks, like other schools do.

Even then, sending out the majority of invites still feels weird before the Oct 15th “you’re admitted” date that med schools follow. Because at least by then the best folks will take offers and the interviews will be available for others

I've interviewed here (9/6) and can promise you I am not part of the "highest score and GPAs" lol, so that can't be it. I'm almost positive that Wayne State is 100% rolling now, and the website is 2 years behind so that is a likely possibility.

There's no other reason why 80% of their interviews would be offered before it's even October.

The only truly nonrolling schools are in Canada. How it works is they after the deadline, they rank everyone with GPA, MCAT, ECs, CASPer, whatever they care about, then they send interviews to the top students. The number 1 rule of nonrolling is that everyone gets their interview invite and acceptances on the same day.

Welp. As someone who submitted early July, does this mean my chances are pretty much slim now?

I was complete 9/12. does that mean I am unlikely to get an interview here?

I did mention already that they sent somewhere between 1400-1500 interviews last year (I remember the tracker), meaning there's almost 300 II left. Your chances are no different than it was yesterday before the tracker update.

Here's another theory, that they sent that many interviews but it doesn't account for people who actually cancel and then they have to send more. So it's possible that it's also still a good amount of interview invites to go. They clearly aren't done or they would send rejections.

I also was EDP and got waitlisted. I'd like to join the chat 🙂

Sorry about the waitlist, hope you hear good news soon. Quick question: is this waitlist the same as regular decision waitlist? Like are you guys coupled with everyone else in the waitlist or does EDP have their own waitlist?

Do you guys get priority/earlier notifications of possible acceptance than normal waitlists?

Sorry for the questions, just curious lol

1. Yes
2. Coupled with everyone else
3. No information available about this, big unknown. Wayne doesn't even say if their waitlist is ranked or not.

Unfortunately i think we have the max # of ppl (6 apparently), if anyone leaves i'll add y'all 🙂
Creating a grp was nice as a support group, would suggest doing another one

No worries, thanks anyway!

Any insight on this entire thing? Seems like a lot of people were waitlisted versus accepted (opposite to last few years). Any idea on how their waiting list works? I was told there would be a separate email with more details regarding the waiting list but didn't get anything.

For the EDP accepted people, they didn’t send any instructions to accept an offer yet right?

I didnt get anything yet, hoping next week we get it !
No info yet, Interested in collecting some collective insight from other accepted Canadians, whether EDP, or otherwise to help each other find our way. Maybe a facebook or other group just to help each other out.

I’d love to help with this. Let me know

For those that interviewed, what hotel did ya'll stay at?
And is UBER the best way to get from DTW to hotels near the campus??

for anyone who has interviewed here, for the MMI stations: how long is each station, also do they give you a piece of paper and a pen or no? also any other interview feedback is welcome!

5 minutes per station + 1 minute to read the prompt. No paper/pen given or really needed imo.

The whole interview is very chill, you have no worries

Do you mind commenting on some of the issues that Wayne is having right now and how that possibly would affect your education/future student's education?

Losing the partnership with DMC? Problems with students cheating on exams? I've also heard how administration is very unorganized and not always there for their students.

Looking away from the negatives, what is your favorite part about Wayne/are you happy with your choice to matriculate here?

Thank you!!

yes of course! i will be honest.

1. the DMC ordeal doesn't affect students at the SOM, so don't worry about that. i was concerned over that as well, but i was assured by upper year students/admin that it has nothing to do with SOM students and it won't have any impact on our education whatsoever.

2. i've never heard about people cheating on exams. also, idk how you even could lol. if anything, our students do a great job collaborating and helping each other out with studying and upper years do a great job on letting us know what to study/focus our time on. other than that, i've never heard of actual cheating at wayne.

3. admin is unorganized. that is true. i think my main complaint so far are the last minute emails they sometimes send rescheduling events or giving us almost no heads up about a new required event. it has been frustrating and is something almost all of us complain about.

overall, i am extremely happy with my decision coming to wayne. i honestly think wayne is the best medical school in michigan (sorry umich). the amount they prepare us for our clinical years is insane. within the first month they start teaching students how to take a patient history, vitals, physical exams... etc. also, the amount of clinical/volunteering opportunities available is extraordinary. i've only been here for about 2ish months and i already feel comfortable speaking to patients and giving exams. also, wayne really emphasizes the humanistic side of medicine, which is something i really looked for in a med school. student-wise, our student body is amazing in terms of helping each other out and being shoulders to lean on. we always have people posting on our FB group study tips/tools that are relevant, and you can vent to almost anyone at school about anything. we are all really "in this together" and i appreciate it so much. as stressed/overwhelmed as i am right now with MSK (aka the hardest unit of med school lol), i wouldn't want to be at any other med school. also side note, residency programs in michigan want wayne grads over anyone else. they really produce the best residents. that isn't a rumor, it is very true. so if any of y'all are blessed to be accepted and want to stay in michigan, GO TO WAYNE!!! that was my PSA lol

As an IS resident with a bunch of friends at wayne and who interviewed there recently, I would say all these sentiments are the same things theyve told me and that i experienced myself. Wayne REALLY cares about the humanistic side of things, and interviewing there and seeing that firsthand put them up my list of schools by a LOT

Does anyone know when Wayne State sends out decisions after interviews?

Hi! What does it say for people under application status? It says my application is complete (last column) but I can't remember if it said under review or not before.
