2019-2020 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Question, does anyone know with the post-bac grade replacement thing, does Wayne calculate that automatically as your uGPA or are you supposed to let them know you want your last 30 hours counted as your uGPA?

That's good to know, although several of us were also part of the cycle last year too. The email doesn't exactly say they changed their admission process though. What seems different is that they have been interviewing more people this cycle, plus accepting a lot less right off the bat. While the credibility of the admission tracker is questionable, looking at how many people are simply getting waitlisted on SDN and how the tracker only has 30% acceptance rate so far, it is very little compared to last year and in general. It just looks like they're doing things differently this year like other schools. All the poor EDP people getting waitlisted this year too is a big anomaly.

Hey, I was wondering how you guys know whether or not the poor EDP people are getting waitlisted this year. Are there any acceptance stats for that? I was really thinking about applying EDP earlier, but I didn't end up doing so, so what's a strong EDP candidate look like? I also had a question on whether It is allowed to apply EDP to an MD school as well as applying regularly for a DO school knowing that they have different applications.

You can apply EDP MD and also apply to DO, DDS, DMD, JD, MS, NP, PA, etc... EDP only locks you to 1 MD school - they have no clue what other programs you are applying to.

There's a stat on how many EDP people got accepted last year, somewhere on Wayne's site.

yes yes i saw that but i was wondering if/how you guys know how many got accepted/waitlisted this year

No one knows the number of people accepted/waitlisted there year. 5 got put on the alternate list last year, and there's already more people saying they got waitlisted on SDN alone, and typically only a minority of people post online. Definitely more people applied to EDP this year in general though.

Haha don't worry about it, that's why I posted. My MMI and student interviews were fine, but my faculty interviewer very clearly didn't like me and was pretty rude to me and idrk why. Like I'm pretty sure he's the reason I got rejected but I didn't say anything that I thought was that bad so I was surprised to not at least get the waitlist
@pHDole I also received a post-interview rejection, not from Wayne but at a med school in Virginia. They do happen! I scheduled a phone interview with the Admissions Committee a few weeks later, and had a 45 minute conversation with a committee member detailing everything I did wrong in my interview. (In case you are curious, two of the MMI assessors independently said I was "too assertive," and my faculty interviewer and I did not hit it off...at all.) I strongly suggest any applicants who receive a post-interview rejection to reach out to the school--you can get some very valuable information about yourself, and how to do better next time. And yes, there is such thing as a next time!

Is a 3:50 flight from Detroit cutting it close for session A ending at 2:15?

Depends on what airline you are flying. I always find it easier to fly out of Detroit with Delta because they have their own terminal.

I usually get to DTW an hour before my flight if im flying domestic. Last friday it took me like 35 mins to get through security, which was unusual and cutting it kinda close. I agree that the terminal does make a significant difference, McNamara should be way quicker than North terminal

Man you must enjoy living life on the edge lol reading your post gave me anxiety but I’m also the kind of person who gets to the airport two hours early for domestic flights and three hours ahead for international.

Haven't missed a flight yet. Overall i think im fairly risk adverse, I dont know why, but travel really brings out my thrill seeker side

Desperately in need of finaid info!! Has anyone already submitted their fafsa? Anyone already received their financial aid package?

Hi everyone! Pleasantly surprised that I was able to get an interview here! OOS, LM 69. For the MMIs, would someone shed some light on what we should expect? High stress low stress, stations?

Thanks!!

I thought the whole interview day itself was pretty low stress!

Sent all 5 of my application updates by end of November. Applied late October. OOS. Still haven’t heard anything back yet. Anyone else heard back who were in the same boat??

You sent 5 updates in within a month less than 1 month after applying? That’s impressive you had that many significant updates!! I applied end of July, sent 1 update end of October, and another just recently and haven’t heard yet either. So I think we should just be patient 🙂

Submitted fasfa but haven't heard a thing about finaid think we might have to wait till later on in the cycle, does anyone know if we have to include parents info to be eligible for need based?

Yes. I am one of the students who helps to run the interviews/tours, and I can tell you nothing is ever on time. You should probably bet on ending about an hour late, and budget an hour to get to the airport and about 45 minutes to get through security (unless you are pre-check). The last interview day I did, we had about 5 people who needed to leave early b/c they were running over an hour behind and were going to miss their flights. Needless to say, this does not reflect well on you.

Called Wayne and they said that they don't consider parents' info. So if you include it, they'll just ignore it.

Is 350 Additional hours of working in Hospital worth writing update letter?

What's the post interview acceptance rate at Wayne State?

I heard it was close to 70% when factoring in waitlists that turn into acceptances. I'm not entirely sure though...I've also heard that people that interview after the new year are all waitlisted. Does anyone know how true that is?

Is it worth it to upload most recent grades and new course schedule or is that not considered a valuable update?
