Submitted my AACOMAS application in early August and have not heard back. Status on the website says "complete" but I also never received a confirmation email stating my application is under review. Any suggestions?

I recently submitted - but I live in Iowa, I know they are usually like this. They take longer to reply back, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hello I got put on the waitlist but I was wondering how to check your place/priority on the waitlist?

Did my Kira Interview on 11/22. Small Group scheduled for 12/7. Out of state with ties. Above average stats. Only thing I think i did wrong in the interview was a bit of rambling at times that might just be a result of the format. Also my hair tie popped during the last short reaponse my hair was a bit wild during the last question by accident (it was up in all the others).

! I was wondering if any current students could speak to the research opportunities that are available on campus? As far as I understand, DMU is not part of a bigger campus, so I am concerned that it will be difficult to find such opportunities.

Just received the acceptance text! Kira assessment on 10/21 and the info session on 11/4.
Congrats! As someone else asked i’d be really interested to hear your stats and maybe how you think you did on the Kira Interview portion.

3.89/511 OOS. To be honest, I didn't feel good about the Kira assessment at all.. I was fully convinced that I had blown my shoot at this school!
Oh good. Very similar stats (slightly lower gpa but still above average) and i’m somewhat worried about my kira interview (especially since my hair went a little wild in my last video section since my hair tie broke) so hopefully a good sign

Hi everyone,
I applied a bit late to DMU... got my complete email in early Nov. Any suggestions on the earliest when I may hear about an ii or pre ii rejection? Email said 90 says, but from the looks of the thread some people are hearing much earlier or later than that.

Thanks!
I was complete 8/14 and have yet to hear anything, which makes 105 days but who's counting? LOL. I'm not too upset about it because I'm no longer interested in the school, but figured I'd share what my timeline has been like!

Any current DMU students/people from the area able to speak on the political atmosphere of Des Moines? I know this is silly but I'm very strongly liberal and I've never been to Iowa, and my parents are making it seem like I would hate to live there. I went to college in one of the bigger cities in SC and loved my experienced there and I thought Des Moines would be similar, despite being in a "red" state.

Not a current DMU student but visited Des Moines many times. In my opinion, you'll get a very similar political vibe from Des Moines as you will have gotten from Charleston or Columbia. The college area/downtown might be a bit different from the suburbs, but it leans liberal like most cities.

Life long central Iowan here (with family/friends all over the state), also pretty liberal. Honestly central Iowa as a whole is pretty liberal, and Des Moines specifically is very much so (RayGun is located here). Iowa is also not a "red state" we went blue for Obama both elections. The NW corner of the state is pretty crazy red (Steve King country) But honesly you're well insulated from it in DSM. The thing about Iowa though that IS different: we're one of the most politically active states, I've noticed when talking to classmates, that Iowans talk about politics when people from other states apparently think talking about politics in general is a no no. Here we talk about it respectfully and we try to stay up to date and we like our research (even if it's crappy, as I have family members come at me with material from bad sources haha). This I think is a statewide thing. We're a very prideful state and since we caucus first in the nation, we take it seriously and are a proud bunch for it. If you have any more questions feel free to PM me!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to hop on and say I was very happily accepted via text on Wednesday morning!🥳 (11-25) The text came at 9:30 and I got the email around noon. I was complete 7/21 and got my II on 10/21. I completed my Kira on 10/29 and had my info session on 11/5. I have a 3.9 GPA and a below average MCAT. Research and clinical experience and just graduated from undergrad today. If anyone has information on registering for the virtYOUal day, please lmk!

Depends on the type of research you're wanting. DMU has a pretty large research presence, with an MSBS and now a BMS PhD/DO option, so PLENTY of bench research available. And being an MSBS alumn myself, the quality is top notch, as I was able to present my research at an international conference in 2019. I do not think that there's a large amount of clinical research going on though, unless you are interested in podiatry research, as they're the top pod. school in the country and do a lot of research there. I believe that PT and public health do a ton as well. If you have questions, you can pm me.

Yes! If you don't have to remediate it's 1 week off and it was blissssss! Though if you're in student government or other clubs you may have something to do there. But nothing for classes.
that is so clutch.

also, if you can, could you explain the dynamics of a specific block. like for example Block 1 in Year 2 lists: CV, clinical reasoning, heme, resp, OMM, and pharm.
does this mean like one week is strictly CV, 2 weeks is strictly heme, etc. OR you take all classes simultaneously over the entire block?

& then as far as Assessment Week: is it gonna be 6 exams or one exam covering everything?

sorry for all the questions, just trying to understand the curriculum a little bit better.

Some classes are staggered some are throughout. We have no idea what year two or even second semester will look like as we're the first cohort doing it. For example, we ended biochem slightly early in the block for block 2 this year, but we didn't start med informatics until halfway through block 2. That said there's exams in all of your classes every two weeks, to assess your learning before final week. It makes the final way less pressure, and honestly during block 1 I busted my butt for those other exams, that I kind of coasted through the test week and it was like having 2 weeks off.

The exams so far have been broken up by class, but it sounds like we're transitioning to take one large exam during exam day with all subjects on it. They're trying to imitate the board exams so we're better prepared.

Anyone else still waiting for their Initial Review of Application Items to be marked as received? I completed my app November 2nd but I'm still waiting for them to verify I guess? It says to allow 3 weeks for review but it's been over 4 weeks now and I'm getting worried...

Mine took about 4 weeks, submitted in October!

does it hurt to send an update letter while my application is on pre-II hold?
