2020-2021 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have a question for if any past/current Drexel students are on here. Sorry if this is a silly question, but it is stressing me out so figure I'd try. My friends are trying to plan a vacation after this crazy year and such a long time of not seeing each other for Labor Day 2021. I found online that I would have that Monday off, but it seems it would be about a month into the curriculum. I think I would be crazy to leave for a weekend vacation after so little time adjusting to new city and the rigor of med school, but I do not think they understand that. So can anyone confirm or deny my suspicions that I would be putting myself in a bad place by leaving for a weekend at that point in my first year? Thanks!

tbh, not a good idea. :/ my SO says that the first couple of weeks are crucial for adjusting/figuring out your study habits.

Anyone know if the WL is ranked?
Unofficially....yes. IDK what the official stance is

You'll be fine. Have some fun and de-stress from your first month of med school. Make plans because the first exam is 2 or 3 weeks into the semester depending on the year. If you find you don't do well on that exam, then bail on the vacation plans and re-focus. If you do well or even just moderately okay on the first exam, then go on the vacation.

take a deep breath; it's a marathon not a sprint.

Edit to add: This is the only time you'll ever catch me saying this.....the first two months are in depth biochem and genetics with some basic introductory microanatomy/histology. You could pre-study over the summer by working your way through MCAT biochem and genetics in depth and then just coast til gross anatomy starts in october.

This is how I was originally feeling, thank you for the insight.

This makes me feel better. I may just tell them to plan financials without me and then will just be a nice bonus if I can make it. I am taking histology right now and would definitely be able to pre-study the biochem and genetics stuff in the summer. Thank you so much for the helpful insight!

Does anyone else's grad PLUS Loan show up on their financial aid status? I filled out my application a few days ago for the PLUS loan, but the portal has not been updated yet.
How were you able to fill this out? I tried and the award year 2021-2022 isn't showing up, only 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. I looked online and it said the Grad PLUS app won't open until June

hey everyone! does anyone know when we know which campus we are assigned to?
It says you have to finalize your campus preference by March 28th, so I would guess probably within like a month after that. However, this is the first year they have to do this so might be slow process this round. Which campus did you want?

Would it backfire if I put both my preferences as Philly? 😅 (it lets you select it twice lol)

You’re good lol take that weekend off. Drexel gives you plenty of time to study before exams. One weekend isn’t gonna make or break it if you can adapt to the curriculum within the prior month

received an II today, so late haha but any insight into the interview format? closed/open file? traditional? any MMI?

Congrats! It's traditional - a one-on-one with faculty, and then a small group with a current student. The faculty portion is open file (my interviewer was extremely familiar with my file, so you may get in-depth questions).

It seems they will be interviewing until April, correct? Or am I building false hope for myself?

O my god, I checked and I filled out for 20-21. I guess I got my credit checked for nothing lol. rip

WL earlier today. Kind of ticked off that it took them 3 months to tell me “maybe.” Really hoping the other Pennsylvania schools I applied to can do better. 😓🙏🏾
when did you interview? were you deferred previously?

Yeah I know what you mean... I interviewed early March and I'm just waiting for a similar answer come May/June ugh. Luckily, I think I recall them saying during my interview day that there will likely be a lot of waitlist movement this cycle?

Have people who were put on hold early in the cycle received IIs? Sorry if this has been answered already

This is wildly unrelated, but everyone NEEDS to check out Dr. Glaucomflecken on either twitter/tik tok as a stress reliever. His impersonations of the differing specialties are hilarious.
His Twitter is literally my favorite follow. I love him doing the different specialties too, the Physiatry/PM&R one was my favorite

you have just introduced me to gomer blog. i can't believe i was missing this.
If there's any adcom lurking here, this is basically all you need to hear to offer me that II 😉

What do you think the chances are of getting off the WL here?? Anyone have any insight into the WL process here

I received an II on monday, and i'm honestly so surprised at how late it is! but still very thankful and super excited. I've heard that it's possible if you receive an II this late, it could be just an interview for a spot on the WL. Is that true?
