Which campus are you in? And how's the living condition over there, like rent safety, etc?
Thanks
Hi! I am at the EL campus! I actually haven't moved in yet due to classes being totally online! The living conditions seem to be pretty accessible where there are a lot of places to live in a variety of price ranges! From what I have seen it is much cheaper than living arrangements for the DMC campus, but I can't really verify that as I didnt look for an apartment in Detroit! 🙂

How's online classes going so far?
They are actually going okay for the most part! Not having an in person anatomy lab is kind of a disadvantage in my opinion, but the school has done everything they can to make up for it digitally! It will be nice to have in person classes but they have done their best to make our online learning as similar as possible to in person!

Are you receiving any sort of reimbursement for costs? It feels weird doing an online medical school.

as far as I am aware we are not! We will start doing some in person stuff (small group OMM lab, etc.) in the fall semester (at least we are planning to)

hello, any tips on how to resize photos to be 2 inches by 2 inches without looking so pixelated? Or should I just upload my photo and let them resize it?

I wrote about a paragraph for each clinical experience, could they be looking for more detailed responses? Kind of ambiguous

Just submitted my AACOMAS application today. Anyone verified recently who can let me know how long it took for them to get verified?

Also is your AAMCOMAS gpa typically higher than your AMCAS gpa?

Update: my AACOMAS application was verified this morning at 2:19 AM. Such a quick turn around time!! My AACOMAS gpa was slightly higher than my AMCAS go.

Haven’t received the secondary yet, will update when I do!

2. Other than healthcare access, what are some of the most important health care issues confronting underserved communities? How would you address them?

How are you all answering this question? I was going to write from the perspective of a medical student, but are they asking how to address them as physicians?

I was going to answer from the perspective of a physician, but I’m not sure if either one is “wrong”

i am running in circle with this stupid question....Everything goes back to "access healthcare" eventually....

don't worry you'll receive yours pretty quickly. I was verified but didn't submit until last Friday and got mine today.

Personally I think it's best to tie it to your experiences. I have a friend who tied her rehab work with it and made it about continued long term care after seeing a doctor (for example). It's pretty broad so I don't think there's a "wrong answer" as long as you answer the questin.

I talked about cost of prescriptions and lack of health education in poorer populations (and how education is important as a preventative measure)

I just realized I didn't even answer the question. I talked about an issue I saw while working in an under resourced/underserved hospital and how I addressed that issue myself, but never communicated how I would address the issue as a physician. I hope I haven't completely ruined my chances, MSUCOM was my top choice.

For those reapplying how are you answering the how has your application changed since last year in response to covid?

I work in a clinic with multiple providers. For the clinical experience section, I'm not sure if to add each provider or one of the providers I work the closest to.

I submitted June 14, was verified June 15, but still haven't received my secondary application. OOS.
My updated MCAT score is supposed to be released on August 3rd, 2020 - but that shouldn't have anything to do with receiving the secondary application late right? I indicated when I would be retaking the MCAT, so they are aware of the date.
Anyone else in the same boat as me? Kind of concerned that I haven't got the secondary request yet... :S

Secondary received and completed July 28th
Marked as complete thesame day.

No that shouldn’t have anything to do with it. My MCAT was posted on mine and I am retaking in September and I received my secondary. I wouldn’t worry, maybe you could email them!

I have received secondaries from every place I applied except MSUCOM. Not sure why? My MCAT and everything is all set too.

Does anyone know if selecting that we would be interested in the dual degree programs will make it harder to recieve an acceptance? Also if you select yes but are not chosen, can you still be selected for the DO only program?

Hey there!! I work in a hospital and just added five DO providers that I work closest to!! 🙂

For your clinical experiences, did anyone increase their documented hours or leave it the same as AACOMAS? I don't want to make them think I'm fudging numbers, but I've been working since submitting AACOMAS and at the time I did not project hours, so now I have more than what I put in my primary.

I increased mine!

Did anyone have any payment issues? I got a confirmation of my payment but it hasn't shown up on the portal so I cant submit yet?

For clinical experiences section.. does anyone know what the character limit/word limit is for the description.. ?

i can’t see the specific limit anymore but it was pretty big. I want to say it was above 200 words. I remember thinking the box was huge when I first got to the page lol

Were there any specific instructions regarding this section?? I emailed admissions for some guidance and they told me to read the instructions ...... I don't see any...............

Does anyone have an answer to this? I emailed the admissions committee the same thing and got the SAME exact response!

I don't think there is a limit for characters. There is nothing at the bottom of the sections that says anything about a word limit.

What specifics are you looking for? It asks if you have any medically related shadowing or clinical experience if you select yes then add your experience, hours, provider, provider type, and name with a description of the activity. Kinda reminds me of the experience section in the AMCAS application.

I didn’t see specific instructions but to me it seemed pretty straight forward! There’s an instruction page on the secondary app, but I didn’t see anything mentioned about the clinical experience page on it. What did you want to know?

I guess I am just confused as I want to enter a clinical experience (working as a PCA/CNA) but I don't know what to put for provider or provider type.
[/QUOTE]

can you submit a non-shadowing experience and just leave the name of provider blank or put N/A?

don't think it will cause any harm in adding non-shadowing clinical experience.

Oh I see. So for one of mine I listed a name of a provider I worked with the most and also listed “various providers” and selected MD. I would say to use your best judgement. Are there any providers you worked with the most?
Also you emailed MSU about this and they told you to follow the instructions?

Okay! I will use your advice! I appreciate the response.
Yes! I wrote out a fairly extensive email detailing my clinical experience and asking how I should list it under the clinical experience category. In a two sentence response, I was told to follow the instructions. I was very underwhelmed. Lol

Did you write something different from the primary?? Did you do a simple description or did you try to SHOW/describe something that happened that pushes you toward medicine? I guess I'm wondering did you approach it as like the most significant essays on the AMCAS vs just a short description as in the 600/700 character limit of the AMCAS/AACOMAS?

I approached it like the short description not the significant essay! Just wrote what I did essentially

If anyone did anything different feel free to let me know! I haven’t submitted yet so I still have time to edit and change

How long are people making clinical experience descriptions? For some shadowing experiences I feel like I don't have more than one or two sentences to say and not sure they'd wanna read more. is that slacking?

Hey there! I just wrote out my job descriptions for clinical experience. They also accept bullet points!! Hope this helps 🙂

Any interview invites yet? Completed my secondary and had it verified on 8/3, just didn't know how long to expect to wait to hear something back.

Thanks! And for the location, did you list the city/state or hospital/clinic name?

Is the "clinical experiences" section only for shadowing? The directions make it sound like I should list EMT-ing there, but when I fill out the actual drop down it's set up only for shadowing.
Are you guys writing new descriptions for your shadowing/clinical experiences or are you copying your blurbs from your primary app?? Thanks!

HI! Did you ever receive directions on what to do with this? I'm unsure if it's OK to copy directly from primary and include some reflection in addition to exactly what I did... thanks!

Does anyone know what the attachment site on the secondary is for?
