Any current students on here who could speak to the culture among students at UChicago?
Hello, current student here! I have to say that I think the student culture/community at Pritzker is one of its biggest selling points (and was a huge reason why I chose this school over others). Students are incredibly collaborative and supportive to one another, and the small class size really does a lot to bring the class together. Even during the pandemic/quarantine, I still felt very much connected to my classmates, and I think that was in great part due to the strong sense of community we built before it started. It's also a very active culture—many people have interests both aligned with and outside of medicine, and there is a lot of student initiative and engagement around issues. I also think the culture generally trends to being social and outgoing, which is very much encouraged by admin/upperclassmen for every incoming class.

Overall, I just feel very lucky to have this great community, and I really cannot imagine myself anywhere else anymore—no regrets at all so far. I know this sounds very pro-Pritzker propaganda lol, but it's honestly how I feel about the student culture.

Posting again complete 7/21

I'm hard core manifesting for all of us July complete that haven't heard back

I hope we all get the II we've been praying for!

Was looking at past threads and found something interesting: someone mentioned (based on calls to pritzker) that adcoms dont even know peoples completed dates and they make their decisions right away. So to everyone still waiting, nothing probably means they havent gotten to us yet
This doesnt seem to make much sense to me. I thought they go according to tier systems hence why a lot of high stat individuals got interviews but also rejections first before some of us lower stat folk. To a degree yes they havent gotten to us in the sense that we havent had our file "holistically" reviewed but i'm sure they've seen our app in whatever way they build their tiers.

I mean Uchicago says they have a small team and I still think you can do a tier system without needing to know the completed dates. Granted, this was in like the 2017/8 thread so the info may not be relevant. Just based on what Ive been seeing here where decisions tend to be around those completed earlier in the cycle and later (sept/oct)

So if you guys don't want to call, here are the answers to some questions that everyone has about this process, even though many of you may already know these answers:
1) Adcoms don't even see your completion date. They don't even see when you got the secondary invite. So this whole "two-week turnaround or else the school will hate you" is nonsense. It is completely random, and this idea of first come first serve is not ALL accurate. yes your chances of being seen earlier will be high, but that should mean you're literally #1 their first hundred applicants or so. After a certain point, even early on, it kind of gets distributed randomly, and this is why you rarely see any correlation between completion date and II.
2) They said they don't necessarily stratify by GPA either. its holistic.
3) There is no hold-status update or hold-email.
4) When you ask to check on status, they *may* tell you if there are numbers next to it. I wouldn't ask outright, but the first time I called to check up on status, they were like "it's in review, and there are no numbers next to it". The last time I called was about two days ago and they said the same thing. This probably means that in *most* cases, they honestly make a decision on an application almost as soon as they read it or within a couple of days."

Here is part of the whole post

n=1 but I don't think this school deserves the "stats hungry" title it gets. I almost didn't apply because of that. I'm a low stat, late September (a month after receiving secondary) and got an II early Nov. which was super chill and stressed their mission over everything
Another n=1, but I agree that UChicago is not "stats hungry". I am average MCAT and below average GPA, ORM. I applied because my wife and I have a great support network in Chicago, and I am drawn to the small class size and community involvement. I got an II in August, had a great interview day in Sept, and I am waiting to hear back. I think my non-trad work and EC's played a large part in my II because my stats were definitely lackluster for a T20 school.

did anyone who interviewed miss the social event/was it mandatory?

I'm not sure about the mandatory part but it was really beneficial talking to current students and I feel like I got an accurate vibe of Pritzker from it. Also, there was an applicant in my event that had a previous interview day but couldn't make there's so pritzker let them join another one. I would reach out to the adcoms and let them know if you have scheduling issues and they will probably accommodate

Anyone received a post-interview R yet? Or do they save those for the very end?

Have any accepted students received anything in the mail yet? (asking for my cousin! I'm not an applicant, but I was a long time ago lol).

By the way, if anyone has any questions about Pritzker, preparation for ERAS (the application service for residency), anything at all -- feel free to DM me.

Did it in penn state thread and I’ll do it here too, complete July + radio silence gang check in

So I got a job between when the secondaries were sent as well as can update on some other things, do yall feel like UChicago is receptive to updates in general? I lowkey dont want to hasten an R. I would rather be in ignorance bliss

n=1 but I updated a few weeks ago, probably made no difference in the final outcome

For people who have done interviews, what does "free time" mean? Does that mean you get to talk to fellow interviewees or does that mean you won't be on any zoom meetings and will be on your own for two hours?

I don't think it hurts to send an update tbh. Not sure how receptive UChicago is to them, but their website says they accept them unlike some other schools. I'm updating them on like 4-5 small/moderate things, so all together I feel like it's worth it. Whether or not it makes an actual difference in my app review/outcome, who knows. I just don't wanna live with the regret of not providing everything I can to schools

(Sorry this post doesn't match the thread's current mood)

Does anyone know when merit scholarships for Pritzker are awarded?

Haha, I came to this thread to ask the same questions! Haven't received anything in the mail yet and don't know when scholarship notifications come out 🙂
@DermResidentYear3 - Thank you for offering! I keep being wowed by how incredibly nice Pritzker students are 😀
