2020-2021 University of Florida

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you were accepted to this school, is it safe to assume you met all the pre reqs?

Does interviewing in January decrease your chances of acceptance? Just got an interview today, OOS with strong ties to the state
Do you mind sharing your complete date?

Also, n=1, but my friend interviewed at UF a few years ago in January and is currently a medical student here (she also told me her stats weren’t extraordinary or anything). While your chances for an acceptance may be a bit lower since UF is rolling admissions and has already had a wave of acceptances, I don’t think it’s too detrimental.

Thanks so much, and sure thing! Completed August 8th

Anyone else still waiting to hear something??
On the day I was supposed to hear, I did not hear from any of my interviewers. I got the A through an email at 7:25pm. Good luck to you and all those waiting today.

Waitlisted at 6pm. Not the outcome I was hoping for, but super happy for everyone that was admitted and hope I can one day call you classmates. Any advice on the timing of a letter of intent? I know UF has a very low waitlist turnover rate typically, but hoping this year with more people being able to accept more interviews there is the chance for movement. For reference for others I am an IS applicant with a 70 LizzyM score. Thank you and congratulations again to those accepted!!

On the admitted page of the portal, I noticed you can list the other schools you’ve been accepted to. Is there any drawback to naming the other schools? I’m assuming if they’re more prestigious schools they may offer more scholarship?
Where on the admitted page of the portal do you see a place to list other schools? All I see is four options of whether we are accepting or considering other offers or 100% UF or withdraw.

When you pick the option that says you have other acceptances, a new box appears.

Do you think I should wait until Jan to send my update in? Considering they are probably wrapping up now.

Hey guys, I have been patiently waiting for them to give me any news, either good or bad. I applied a bit late 10/5 but I have seen people who applied later than I did receiving IIs, feeling a bit disheartened. (LizzyM 69, UF alum). Do they even still send out interview invites? or the cycle is pretty much done by now? I know technically the cycle is not over till next April but I'd like to hear some realistic excepectation that I need to face to.
Happy holidays
UF sends interview invites until February I think (based on past SDN threads), and right now, it seems they’re still processing mostly August unless you are part of the group that gets your app bumped to the top of the list (URM, veteran, disadvantaged status, etc.). Of course, I’m only an applicant myself and not an adcom, so take everything I am saying with a grain of salt, but I think it might just be they haven’t gotten to your app. I wouldn’t panic just yet.

I just got an II yesterday for January and I submitted my secondary August 31st. I think @worried_applicant is right that they probably just haven’t gotten to yours yet. Don’t give up hope just yet!

I was very fortunate to also receive an II on Monday. IS with 79 LizzyM. Does anyone know when you determine the specific time slot of the interview? I am set to interview 1/8/2021 and was hoping to schedule for 2:15 pm and 4:15 pm.

Also, do you recommend filling out the form to get in touch with a current student? They also mentioned on the phone that they match the interviewer with you based on interests, but I wasn’t sure how they found our interests.

I think they said that we won't know the times of the interview until the day of so to block out 2-7pm.

Fill out the form to get in touch with a current student only if you have stuff you want to ask, it does not factor into their decision making and you don't really want to waste a med students time lol. In terms of matching your interests, it comes from ur primary and secondary, e.g. if you have music as one of ur activities on ur primary, then there may be a chance they match you with someone who also shares interests in music.

Hi there, did anyone who sent an update receive an II? Wondering if they are effective at all/whether I should wait until the new year to send one.

I submitted an update Nov. 30 and received an II Dec. 21. Not sure if the update helped me get the interview though. I'm waiting until the new year to update a couple other schools that I never got to, but they also aren't ones I'm super passionate about. Hope this helps 🙂

From what I've heard, it can only help you, not hurt you. As a side note, I completely bombed it and still was able to secure the A, so I def don't think it's something that'll keep you from getting the A either.
+1

Sure thing. I'm probably an anomaly as a re-inventor (or at least a minority) but ugrad 2.8x, 2.6x (cum, sci) and SMP grad gpa 3.8x, MCAT from 496 to 509. To be frank, I'm sure UF being my alma mater/IS, and URM helped, too.
I have been looking at different special masters programs for after I graduate, what was the SMP you did if you don’t mind me asking?

I just send an update and clicked Save, but I'm not sure if my responses were sent to the school. Does anyone know?

Has anyone else with stats decently below their medians interviewed before too? I think I'm making myself more nervous for the interview than I need to be lol
The interviews are just meant to be conversational, and, speaking from experience, your stats don't tend to get brought up in interviews. They just want to assess you as a person, so relax, forget about stats, and just be yourself!

My MCAT was quite a few points below their average, but I received II 1 month after secondary submission and was recently accepted! Really get the vibe that UF is looking for students that fit their mission, so just be yourself because they're already in love with you if you've gotten an interview!!

confused on Update letters for UF COM, cant seem to find a way to put my update in the portal. Do I need an interview before being able to send an update? Or should I just email [email protected] with my update?

Anyone know if the scholarship application is open yet?

In the secondary portal there's a "Citizenship" tab, what is this for? I already uploaded proof of my identification/residence under the User Profile tab so I was unsure if this was something different

That opened up for me after I got my II, and I was told it's something applicants need to upload before their interview. Did you get an II recently?

Yes but in my email instructions it said the place to upload it would be under the User Profile tab where it says "Proof" and that's where it was so I uploaded it there. The Citizenship tab didn't open up til a few days after I noticed
