sorry if I am a bit ignorant on this but is this the limit for loans or something? for room and board?
It is a rough estimate of how much loan money is allocated for living expenses (this is after tuition and fees are collected).

I got the interview WL email on 12/15. Haven't gotten an interview yet. Is is safe to assume that it's a soft R?

This has probably been addressed a million times, but where can we connect with future classmates and find like-minded roommates?
In one of the DOdoc emails you should have received a link to a Facebook group. Is called UIWSOM Class of 2025.

How full does the class look?
It has 72 members but I am not sure if they are all matriculated. Previous class profile had around 162 students matriculated per their website.

P.S.
I am waiting to hear back a decision post-interview.

I don’t think so, there’s so much that can still happen so I’d say definitely maybe email and ask questions and stuff just continue to show your interest etc? Either way I don’t think it’s a soft R at all

Thank you. Do you know how I can show interest to them? I don't really have any significant updates, as I'm just continuing to do my clinical job. I wouldn't exactly know what to say in an email just to show interest. Any advice?

I would email admissions to set up a time to talk and ask questions then use that opportunity to just show your interest. (I emailed asking a bunch of questions but they felt that the questions were best answered over the phone so someone reached out to set up a phone call) literally two days after that call I got my II and I truly think that may have helped just show my interest even though it was unintentional. was that helpful? sorry if it wasn't but I didn't write a letter of intent because I did not have updates either

Also attend their information sessions and ask questions tbhI fell like that helps too

how "soon" haha

Next deadline for deposits. There will be A’s handed out in July. If you show you are serious about the school (letter of intent) and are in consistent dialogue with the school you’re going to get in

Hi, can someone please give me advice on who to address in a letter of intent? Would I address it to the founding dean or director of admissions?

Had anyone else here gotten an email saying they’ll get an interview if interview spots open up? I’m really hoping they make more spots but also why send that email to someone -_-

Just thinking...
Those of us who interviewed the first week of Feb. might not receive any news regarding the status of our application anytime soon since Texas is going through a lot with the snow and the power outage.
Anyone else thinking how Texas seems to be affected by Natural Disasters more than other states?

p.s.

Praying that they are all safe and staying warm.

Can anyone who has gotten an A at any school tell me how they answer the “ tell me about yourself?” question?

Can anyone who has gotten an A at any school tell me how they answer the “ tell me about yourself?” question?
When I have been asked this question, I think of it like a two minute elevator speech where I encapsulate my life in two minutes. I Describe my background (i.e., where I am from, siblings, parents, wife, our cat, my hobbies), highlight major life pursuits (i.e., 20 year military vet, finishing my PhD, one or two significant research highlights), discuss my community service passions, finally, I describe one or two of my future goals. You shouldn't stick to a script that rehashes all the stuff in your secondary. I try to make my "tell me about yourself" answer as unique as possible (i.e., stuff not in my applications).

Thank you so much. I think I see why I am not getting past the interview stage. I hope my next interview I can craft a good answer like this. I appreciate it!

Looks like the school was closed yesterday and today, so unless they can do stuff remotely, I don’t think decisions today. Stay safe Texas

Do you spend anytime on campus or can it all be done remotely ?

At the moment, we're still mostly online, but we have been slowly transitioning back to campus once a week to do either OMM workshops or our anatomy lab. We don't know what the fall will look like right now. Last summer we found out about being fully online for the fall about 2.5 weeks before classes started. For this current semester, they told us in early December we would be coming back on campus once a week starting mid-January. We have been allowed to study on campus if you need to since I think October, but it's only solo study due to COVID precautions.

How did you comfortably transitioned into the curriculum and the different type of examination? Have you had the opportunity to study alongside with COMLEX or STEP 1 materials? If so, is it smoothly, as most of the main topics are covered on the study cases?

Thanks for the help

Lol not gonna lie, my transition wasn’t the smoothest. I hadn’t been in school since I completed grad school about 3 years before. My mentor mentioned “real school” didn’t start until the third week, so I did very little until week 3. Although the first 2 weeks are a lot of introductory information like how each class works, learning the signs of burnout/depression, empathy for patients, study habits/memory, it will get you in the habit of completing the assigned readings and associated questions (aka session objectives/SOs). Week 3 is when you get start into the basics of biochem/neuro/immunology/pharm. Since it is a fairly new program they tend to adjust unit 1 based on the feedback they receive from the first years in an effort to make it better for the next class.

The spiral curriculum can be obnoxious at times because they’ll mention topics in lecture, but then they follow up with “you don’t have to worry about the details now. We’ll go more in depth in a later unit” when you have a question about it right now. The spiral is helpful at times in terms of using spaced repetition to solidify information into your memory. For example, you’ll probably hate hearing about polycythemia by the end of first year, but you’ll know a lot about it.

At this point, we’re in unit 4, and I use mostly step 1 material to study. I hate reading textbooks, and I learn best using audio and visuals. A lot of us work in study groups to split each week’s assigned readings & SOs, so no one person is having to read 60-80 pages a day(although some of my classmates actually do complete all the readings by themselves). Between outside resources like boards and beyond, sketchy, osmosis, pathoma, and amboss, going to lecture, then reading my study group’s completed SO documents if I’m still missing any information, I’ve done well. The program is P/F, so well = passing. The correlation between the Step/Comlex prep information and lecture varies depending on the topic. Some topics were discussed much more in depth during lecture than what was covered in the test prep resources, but the opposite is also true for other topics. I will say I’m not a fan of the free response tests at the end of each unit since things like step and Comlex are multiple choice.

When you say study cases, I think you’re asking about our small group cases right? Yeah most of those cases we cover are high yield based on what I see in my test prep.

Since boards are multiple choice, what is the school’s rationale for making unit exams essay-style?

This was probably explained by admin during one of the many virtual town halls or curriculum GO meetings they’ve hosted for my class, but I didn’t go to them because I rather do other things with my time like study and my classmates will typically give a rundown of any major news discussed. A theory from a teacher friend of mine is admin wants to check if we have a thorough understanding of the topics by seeing if we are able to correlate the info learned in class with the test answers we give. Therefore we’ll be better prepared to quickly reason our way through the answer choices on step/comlex. If you barely pass the exam, ie. you get a “standards met with recommendations” score, you’ll have to met with a learning specialist to evaluate your study habits and/or discuss why you didn’t understand the info well enough to score higher. I understand the reasoning behind it, but I hating writing and find the whole process tedious.

Might be the first one rejected here lol . Interviewed 2/5. Good luck to all of you!

I'm not sure if they have plans to continue interviewing, but I do know that their last round of interview invites went out at the end of January, with available interview dates being Feb 1st, 5th, and 22nd.
