2021-2022 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just put on hold as well.
Submitted my secondary 7/14, OOS, LM 67.5, and 4th quarter casper.
:/

This is only the third med school app cycle where CASPer has been widely used, the first being in the 2019-2020 cycle. In order to assess whether CASPer is a valid test, they need to wait for the class of 2024 to graduate and then compare their individual success rates to their CASPer scores. Basically, don't worry too much about CASPer. If you haven't taken it yet, definitely try to do well but don't break your back over a high score because no school that takes it can make or break you because of it.

Current M1 at Cooper (which I love so far), but was also accepted at Drexel. I was complete at Drexel mid-August, never put on hold, received an interview invite (II) mid-February, interviewed in early March, and got the A in mid-May. So don’t worry if you’re complete but haven’t received an II yet! Drexel seemed to be a little random.

Also, consider applying to Cooper too even if you’re out of state (it’s in NJ), particularly if you have a strong service background! I was OOS and I still applied to Cooper and I’m so happy I chose it. I live in Philly (Center City, along with about half my classmates) and I have a 15 min commute to Cooper. And it’s a smaller class size with more individualized attention and early patient interaction (all students are required to work at free community clinic). And it’s not too late to apply if you submit soon, because they truly take a holistic look at each student!

Got an email stating that I will not be receiving an II at this time but that they would like to reconsider my application later in the cycle. Is this a rejection or a hold?
This is a hold. A rejection means your consideration is over for that cycle.

When did you submit your complete application?

I just got an email with "we noticed you haven't submitted your secondary..." I didn't even receive their secondary. Is it too late now to email them and submit one?

Check your spam folder, some people have had it filtered out of their normal email folder

I checked and it's not there. I feel like it's too late to submit it anyway don't you think?

If you never got it then how can they blame you? Until you actually get the secondary and wait beyond two weeks to submit it, it won't be considered "late". Shoot them an email, you didn't pay good money for your Casper and primary to be submitted only for there to be a literal zero chance of consideration.

yeah that's true. Thank you!

I have a 511, 3.65 (Complete 7/12) but I am really surprised I haven't been held yet. I am convinced that our admissions board member hasn't reached our apps yet. Trying to be as realistic as possible.
But those are the types of stats that get into Drexel? Unless a hold here doesn't mean a soft R, you're well in contention. If you look at the matriculants on MSAR, their average is 511 and 10th percentile is 504. Don't sell yourself short just because your stats could be higher!

I should have mentioned I have a 1st quartile Casper score. I really believe Casper is weighed a lot more heavily than people perceive. I wish I was optimistic, but by going through this process again, I can not help but expect what is to come ahead.

I have a 3rd quartile score and have not been granted interviews at any Casper-requiring programs.

Hard to say what kind of influence it’s having. I suspect it would vary greatly among schools.

Same

Congrats!!! Do you mind me asking stats

If it helps: I’m a reapplicant to the school w/ a 3.77 GPA, and 511 MCAT (up from a 505 in 2019). Didnt do too hot on CASPER (not for lack of trying). I took the time to improve myself and my app over the past year before I applied again and I think they noticed. wishing the best for everyone, I know how much waiting sucks

Just got placed on hold sadly. Fourth one of the cycle. It’s getting kind of depressing at this point lol. Is a hold here basically a R?
I am sorry 🙁. It is a long and strenuous cycle. This is my second cycle and I totally understand where you are coming from. Keep your chin up and good things will come.

Ohh, and when were you complete?

I had a first quartile casper, but i was still granted an II. I really do think its more of a hollistic approach. Also avearge stats
