Okay just to clarify does ORM and URM stand for Over/Under Represented Minority or Over/Under Represented in Medicine?

Okay just to clarify does ORM and URM stand for Over/Under Represented Minority or Over/Under Represented in Medicine?

In medicine. Different minorities may be over/underrepresented in other fields, so the terminology can be the same but with a different context. On SDN and med school admissions, ORM/URM is for medicine.

Now I am more confused what someone who is neither ORM or URM means lol. I thought that every ethnicity other than White/Caucasian was under-represented, and White/Caucasian is over-represented?

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but everyone is either ORM or URM. Race & ethnicity are obviously complex topics but for the purpose of admissions, everyone fits in either box.

White/Caucasian's are ORM, but so are 'Asian' individuals. (I put that in quotes b/c Asian is a general classifier adcoms use but generalizing all people with ancestry from the Asian continent is too simplistic and doesn't sit right).

edit: I see what you are referring to, I am not sure what that person meant. Since ORM/URM status is relative to the general representation of a group of people in a population (in this case the U.S. population), it is possible that a certain minority group may be perfectly represented. I.e. 2% of the U.S. population and 2% of physicians. I don't think this is what they we're referring to, but I hope that helps you understand the concept.

Just got put on pre-II hold. What exactly does a pre-II hold mean at this school? Would this be the time to add new updates because that might push their decision in one direction more than another?

A pre-II hold from here is a bit ambiguous as there have been different meanings for it from previous cycles. In some cycles, it’s basically a soft R. In other cycles, it can be a true hold where you’ll have a chance to be given an II after they re-review your application. For this cycle, it’s kind of unknown and we won’t truly find out until the end of the cycle. Nonetheless, if you have any updates, it wouldn’t hurt to send them as it could potentially lead to an II. Great things will come your way and I’m wishing you the best!

It’s likely a soft R. Drexel gets thousands of apps and sure, you’ll see one or two people on sdn get off hold but that’s just sampling error and not statistical majority. The vast majority of pre II holds here are soft rejections. I’m not trying to be a jerk but I was on hold at a high yield school before and I got hopeful and I was crushed when the R came. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll find success either way.

At this point, if I don

No disrespect to you! I know your stressed like me but we really don't know what a hold is.

Some people get II without hold
Some people get II post hold.

There is no rhyme or reason to this process . Its a crap shot.

I havs had zero updates about my app so far

I’d say if you have a hold here then it’s much more likely it’ll be a soft R than an eventual II

A hold being a soft R at a low yield school is much less “no rhyme or reason” than most other parts of this process

Of course you can be hopeful about maybe getting an II but being realistic based on everything that’s been reported by applicants it makes sense to treat it as an R
yeah, I agree. I had crazy high hopes about GWU after a hold there because many people said an II was still possible but for low yield schools, a hold is a gentle R. I’m sure in the upcoming months, a few people might get off hold but for every one person who gets off hold, I’ll bet there are hundreds who are rejected. The

Unfortunately I agree, I was never put on hold for Drexel but was for GWU. Got hit with that fat R a week ago. I feel like Penn State is the only one that it’s common for them to give a ii after a hold.

I'm kind of the opposite got a hold with GW and then like 3 weeks later I got an interview invite. Have a hold at drexel and penn state and no II as of yet.

Statistically speaking, GWU hold has a way higher probability of turning into an II because they just put everyone on hold (unless you receive II right away). For Penn state and drexel, they often do outright Rs after submission

Is there an accepted students group for Drexel? I'd love to be added. Please DM me!

Don't want to cause panic... I didn't get my A today, but good luck to everyone waiting!! 🤞🤞

I can’t believe it’s been 6 months of waiting 💀. I still have not heard anything from like 18 schools. Even after interviewing, you still waiting. 💀
Im a second year applicant and this is par for course. Come February/March a bunch of rejections will be issued. Schools that you are competitive at will continue to hold on to you until they finally pull the trigger to interview you or they run out of spots.

It is possible for those schools to turn into interviews though (obviously) even until March/April. But I still have 20+ schools to hear back from and I’m not expecting really anything until February from the majority of them.

👍🏾🤝. Do you feel like earlier interviews mean anything then?

Early interviews are those the school really wants. After January, I’m assuming interviews are given to students who didn’t make the cut when compared to more competitive applicants in the beginning, but are competitive compared to later applicants.

What do you think then about getting an early interview but then being waitlisted.

For clarity Im not on hold. My bias would want me to say this is good but Im checking my bias too.

Im just saying I see people with holds and no holds getting IIs.

We got to keep in mind this is perhaps one of the largest medical schools in the US.

Looks like next week it is for us 2nd week of Nov folks. Kinda surprised though, Drexel normally almost always releases decisions on Fridays. Either they didn’t, or those who did hear back don’t have an SDN account 😅😂

I was complete from Drexel on 11/21. How long does it take to review app?
Sheesh that’s a tough completion date. No idea but there is a chance they might never get to you. It depends on how high ur gpa + mcat + how impressive u are. If ur t20 caliber they’ll prob send u an ii in Feb or March. That’s given the context of ur completion date.

At the interview they said they would be interviewing into March. According to them you have the same chance if you interview in March compared to someone who interviewed in September. Silence means you’re still in the running for now.
I feel like that’s cap otherwise what’s the point of rolling admissions.

they told us something slightly different at my march interview last year - they specifically said that we are interviewing for a seat in the class, not just a waitlist spot! idk about the exact same chances as someone in in september but who knows 🤷‍♀️

Interviewed 11/9, and still haven't heard back. On interview day, they explicitly said that we "wouldn't have to wait another 2 months" before we heard back with a decision. With that in mind, I assumed I would hear back before the end of the calendar year, but nothing yet 🙁

I interviewed on 11/7 and I am on the same boat as you. I suspect that we will hear back this Friday, but who knows lol

For the sake of my anxiety, I hope it is this Friday haha

Update as of this morning: just got an email saying I was 'deferred'. WTF does that even mean, and is there any chance for me at this point?

They defer so many people lmaoo. It basically means you will get a decision later. Based off last year’s sdn you will either get an A or a waitlist. I have yet to see someone get a rejection after a defer.

Btw, same boat 11/7 interview and 12/2 defer.

Well that's at least somewhat reassuring. Now that we are both deferred, should I send updates and/or a letter of intent?

I did both. This my top choice. It depends on if you really wanna matriculate here! Letter of Intent it if you are willing to commit regardless of other offers you get! That’s how I view it!

Edit: I would not expect a decision till January my friend. Just a heads up! Enjoy the holidays and try to keep this off your mind!

Do we think we’ll hear back on the fridays before Christmas and New Years or will we have to wait until January?
