2023-2024 Hackensack Meridian

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is an appeal to applicants who have taken Casper for admission to Hackensack Meridian University SOM.

Complete the 2023 Situational Judgment Test Experience survey.

HPSA/SDN has the 2023 SJT Experience Survey available to anyone preparing for SJTs (especially Casper and PREview). If you completed the 2022 survey, you are welcome to go ahead and complete the survey again. This survey consists of multiple pages and will take up to 10 minutes. You can also place yourself on a waitlist for a study focusing more on school-run SJTs run through platforms like Kira Talent, to be released later in the year.

Your feedback matters!
We learned a lot about how applicants prepared for Casper and PREview last year, but the number of PREview schools has almost doubled this cycle! Over 20% of all AMCAS applicants will likely have taken PREview, and up to 90% of all medical school applicants will likely have taken Casper this cycle (according to Acuity Insights). This does not include applicants in non-medical professions who have had to take these assessments for admission to physician assistant, anesthesiology assistant, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, or physical therapy programs, where we see a trend that applicants with higher Casper results are preferred. Medical residency applicants are also being asked to complete Acuity Insights Assessments, and very little is known about how program directors use these data. Your responses are vital to get objective insights on how admissions committees value the results of these exams.

Your feedback matters!
We want to hear from as many people as possible, especially those attending or applying outside of medicine (MD/DO). This year saw an expansion of SJTs in admissions, and more information has been made available on preparing for these assessments. We want to stay current with these trends to guide future applicants and students facing these SJTs.

Many of our findings from the 2022 survey align with the NAAHP Testing Task Force report released last summer. This includes concerns about proctoring, consistency of scoring, and concern that applicants are paying for validity research. But we need more student voices to gain a louder voice to advocate for future health professional school applicants.

Your feedback has helped HPSA develop a workshop focused on preparing for SJTs like Casper and PREview. This workshop is part of our Becoming a Student Doctor preparation course, and we have already had some positive results among those who have participated in our mock interview workshops. An updated workshop will be presented at the UC Davis Prehealth Conference on October 14, and we welcome opportunities to present the full-length SJT workshop to your campus!

Fill out this survey and help future applicants become physicians in their chosen profession!

Anyone have advice for the interview week / interview? Just got an II yesterday
My interview was with a faculty member and lasted around 45 minutes. It’s open file and pretty relaxed- expect standard interview questions. Good luck!

does anyone know if Hackensack accepts update letters or letters of interest?

Mine was also with a faculty member. Very relaxed, I think I vibed with my interviewer quite well. Didn't have any standard questions, just had a conversation. I think it was 30 minutes long if I remember correctly.

how long after admissions day was ur interview?

I'm worried now, my interviewer was clearly reading off a list of questions and seemed annoyed... I was really sad after seeing everyone say they found it conversational
Mine also had a list of Qs, I think it really depends on the interviewer!

When do you normally receive the call to schedule the interview? I have the admissions day tomorrow but haven't scheduled the interview yet.

Edit: Just received the call to schedule, could choose from dates between this Thursday and next week.

Hmmm I never got the call and I got the interview same day as you with admissions day tomorrow as well… when did you receive it?

more data: prelim review complete today, submitted back in mid august

i think i got an II, but I'm not sure? the email i got says "it is our pleasure to advance your application to interview status" and i first have to attend info sessions before scheduling my 30 min virtual interview. is this an official II? sorry if this is a stupid q - earlier replies in this thread mention a 2nd interview call? is that what i should expect?

This is an official interview!! You are invited to a second after you complete the first interview, but only if they need more information before making a decision

does it matter what email we use to send application updates? I emailed mine to [email protected] but it seems like they have other emails associated with the admissions system.

+1 II just now as well! (OOS). I also noticed this, but I am assuming that 11/28 is the actual day since all admissions days are tuesdays
Looking at it closer, it seems that there are events on the 28th, 29th, and 1st. The calendar in the google sheets is just missing the event on the 28th. I don't love how they spread the events across an entire week... Does anyone know if I could go to the monthly "info session" in December instead of the one offered during my actual admissions week in Nov, since it seems like for most "admissions days" the info session isn't normally that same week?

My interview was so short!!!! Only 15 minutes, don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing but I guess we’ll see. Oh also their admissions office confirmed that their post II acceptance rate is high 70-80

For anybody that interviewed/done their admissions week: are the "admissions day", "student Q&A", and "financial aid info session" all mandatory? Would it be okay to join and listen in only (with camera off)? [I work full time]

^I am confused about this too.

I believe Admissions Day is mandatory with formal clothing but the others are optional and casual is fine if you’re at work ( I was wearing scrubs for mine)

Did you have to pick an interview time on the spot when they called?

When they called to schedule, they offered multiple dates/times within 2 weeks. I did not ask for a date further out, but it appears they could accommodate it.

I received the call yesterday before noon. They did say at the end of the admissions day zoom they would reach out to people if they had not yet received a call to schedule an interview.

Anyone know what the post-II data is for this school? The big spreadsheet doesn't have Hackensack unless I'm blind.

When was your first interview? Fearing the worst for me given how fast mine was
What do you mean by that? Was ur interview a lot shorter than 30 min?
And I thought a 2nd interview would be considered a good thing. kinda like the 2nd round of interviews when applying for a job
