2024-2025 New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know if NYITCOM is generous with financial aid and scholarships? I can’t find any scholarships for the NY campus, only for the Arkansas campus.

interviewed in november, got the A- 2 weeks later in November

Hey everyone, I hope everyone is chilling as much as they can this stressful cycle! Do yall think it's too late in the cycle to send a secondary for NYITCOM??

honestly this is pretty late for a secondary for majority of schools. I would prepare for a competitive next year instead of being considered an reapplicant here and donating money for no reason.

Isn’t there a soft deadline for DO schools to finalize their class list?

Can anyone speak to the asynchronous courses and how often they find themselves on campus for labs? And do most students study on campus or at home?

The entire semester's lectures are all uploaded at once so you can watch at your own pace and do whatever works for you. The first semester, you're on campus 3 days/week for labs. Sometimes you have to come in for an additional day for certain workshops and mandatory events. The second semester, you're on campus around 2-3 days/week. I feel like a majority of students study at home but there's a good amount of people that stay on campus to study as well.

What time of the day are labs? Are they like 8am? Also is anatomy lab year-long or just first semester? Thanks!

it depends on the group you're placed into. The whole class is split into 4 groups. You're either going to have labs starting at 1pm or 3pm. Anatomy lab is during the first semester. Neuroanatomy lab is during the first block of the second semester, it's twice a week in the afternoon, an hour per session.

Woah that's crazy so you don't have to be on campus until the afternoon? Also sorry one more q - can you give a brief breakdown of the curriculum and what's covered during first semester? Is it systems based? Thanks so much!

any brave soul want to call admissions to see whether or not they will send As this month 😛 (I am not a brave soul)

Lol if you look at the previous years threads, it was the same type of chaos after Jan it seems like. Think all we can do at this point is hold on and ride out the storm.

I’m expecting a massive WL notification in March, then movement in May after the MD schools require A holders to narrow it down to 1. All we can do is chill and get comfortable wit the idea of possibly saying goodbye to the deposit(s) we’ve made already.

What do you mean goodbye to deposits already made like to other schools ?
He's talking about April-May timeframe, where schools send their list of accepted students to organizations and students are expected to narrow down their choice to a single school, end of April for MDs and end of May for DO. You can stay on all your waitlists, but if taken accepted afterwards you have to repick one.

Goodbye to deposits means when you withdraw your seat from all other schools but one, you generally won't get any of your deposits back. For MDs, this isn't huge since their deposits are typically $100-200, but for us DO folk its about $1000-3000 each school 😢

didn’t get rejected from NYITCOM but got an email about an information session for their MPH program? 😭 why would they do that, does this mean anything?

Yeah we don’t have to be on campus till afternoon for typical labs (I don’t have to be there till 3 pm). But some days we have stuff where we have to be there at 10 am, and all tests start at 9 am for first years.

So first semester is not systems based. It’s a foundations course, called FOM (foundations of medicine). This is 3 blocks. The first block was mostly Biochem and a bunch of other random topics. 2nd block was a lot of genetics and physio. 3rd block was a ton of Pharm. throughout these blocks we also have anatomy for the whole body other than the brain. The first semester blocks are 6 weeks, with a smaller test for OMK (Osteopathic Medical Knowledge, which encompasses everything from OMM to sciences to the clinical anatomy) and smaller anatomy practical every 2 weeks and then the big comp and practicals during comp week which is week 6. 2nd Semester is when systems starts. First block is Neuro + neuroanatomy. The second block (block we are currently in for OMS-I) is clinical neuro and psychiatry. Not sure about the next 2, but I know we have MSK, Cancer, Rheumatology, Derm, etc.

Interviewed 12/13 for LI campus with no correspondence since, has there been a big wave of As since November? Does anyone know if their class is already filled and we're just all probably WL for now?

The deadline for my deposit is feb 19th, so does that mean I have until 11:59 tmrw to pay for it? Or is it tn 😭😭

I’d imagine before midnight tmw since 11:59 implies the day hasn’t ended yet. But my question is why on gods green earth would you take that risk over one more day? 🤣🤣

I had the same scare at another school and just paid it a day early before midnight. I totally understand wanting to wait for another school’s decision but there is 0% of me interested in doing this process again lol

Not to take away from your deposit stress but this Feb 19th deposit deadline gives us anxiously waiting post-II-ers hope for another wave of As!

Is this the same deposit deadline for everyone? When were you accepted?
No I don’t think so. I was accepted end of jan
Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but after the month of Dec all students at all DO schools generally have 2 weeks from their notice to send a deposit. It’s standard and has no correlation with the next wave of acceptances unfortunately
