Why is UCSD so quiet with sending out interview invites😢

In the last few years UCSD has had increasingly high yield with their accepted students. (In other words, an increasing majority of students who are accepted end up matriculating.) Last year, yield was so high that no one was taken off the waitlist. To my understanding this happened as well with the current MS4 class.

The current MS1 class is much larger than anticipated, so they're probably being extra careful with IIs at the moment.

Has anyone interviewed with them yet. Just wanna gather some insights into how you felt it went

I have! It was relatively low stress but it was MMI so it’s tough to gauge how well it went since the interviewers couldn’t stray from the follow up questions. Overall though everyone was super nice and made me feel a lot less nervous than I was at the beginning of the day

Did they show you a timer for 2 minutes and 8 minutes, and was it a mix of ethical questions and questions about you?

OOS pre-II hold. seems like they just sent that email to everyone lol

IS pre-II hold, complete 7/23. Are there stats for people getting interviews after being on hold or is it basically a R?

If they are sending pre-II holds, does that mean they are way done sending secondary invites?

+1 Interview hold. OOS. Submitted secondary on 7/15 😢

Current student here - I definitely would not say that the interview hold is a "soft rejection". There are severeal students in each class who attend after previously being on holds. You also have to keep in mind this also doesn't account for students who come off "hold" but decline interview, end up somewhere else, or are waitlisted/rejection post interview.

There is a sizeable pool of people every year who are offered interview at a later date for sure.
