I had it online it was very laid back the dean's presentation (mandatory) had a lot of good information and the optional student panel Q&A was pretty helpful too i thought. I would just say you should know why you would like to pursue osteopathic medicine and why you would be a fit for UIWSOM, as you should with the other schools you interview at. Be yourself, and dont stress yourself out too much, remember you got this far a reason. Good luck on your interview, and for the rest of the cycle. You got this!

OOS A from 9/13, heard back 9/30. Does anyone know if the acceptance deposit is binding?

read here under application traffic guidelines.
At this school you have until December to make your deposit. Later in the cycle, the deposit deadlines move up closer to your offer date (less time to decide)

It is not binding - if you later gain admission to a school you prefer, politely withdraw after accepting your new offer. You might not get this deposit refunded

UIWSOM seems different in that they wait until December before seeking a deposit. Most other private DO schools require a deposit within 2 weeks.

Does anyone have any data on how many applicants UIWSOM accepted so far?

Good morning everybody, been lurking this forum since the summer but with all the recent news decided to join! Got the call that I was accepted to UIWSOM on Monday 9/30 while I was driving back to my apartment (nearly crashed my car out of excitement but thankfully I'm still here lol). Interviewed 9/13 in the morning portion as did many others here from what I've seen, IS non-trad. Received the actual email acceptance letter the following day, 10/1. My advice to those still interviewing, breathe. Full disclosure when it came time for my interview I felt like I got to yapping at certain points but I've always been hypercritical of myself. Know your application inside and out and why you want to be in this line of work, you'll do great!

Look at the AACOMAS traffic guidelines. They were really helpful for understanding the system. From what I understand, if you get accepted, it's not binding. But because you're not accepting their acceptance offer 100% right away, if you want to hold your accepted seat, you have a period of time to pay a deposit to save that seat "just in case," or whatevs your reason is, as you're waiting to finish other interviews/acceptances/etc.

Hope that helps.
Thank you for the link. I'm still a bit confused. So you're saying once I pay and the deposit deadline passes, the A offer becomes binding?
I'm asking bc the deposit deadline is way before the match date.

A) UIWSOM does not participate in TMDSAS Match
B) paying your deposit by the UIWSOM December date holds your seat in the class.
If you should be accepted by another school that you prefer later on, you can contact UIWSOM to withdraw. You will likely forfeit that deposit.

So, why pay the deposit? You will lose the chance to attend this school if you don't pay it by the deadline.
If it turns out to be your only acceptance, you will be starting school at UIWSOM in summer of 2025.

UIWSOM gives an extended deposit timeline into December. If you have other interviews and prospects, it is best not to pay the deposit until the absolute deadline since choosing another school later means you lose that deposit. An applicant last year had to pay in December and ended up at TCOM because their admission only came through in January at TCOM. However, they waited until last day to hold the seat since this was the only admission they had when the deadline came up.

Y'ALL

I didn't want to post this as soon as the call happened (bc honestly it's anxiety inducing to see others get in), but I also interviewed in the in-person 10/4 session last Friday and got the acceptance call Thursday!! I WAS SO SPEECHLESS BC I GOT THE PHONE CALL FROM THE FACULTY WHO REPRESENTED ME FOR THE ADCOM VOTE & THEY ALL WERE IMPRESSED.😭😭😭 IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN A FULL WK SO WHEN I SAW THE CALL LOG WITH THE CALLER ID I MISSED IT AT FIRST AND THEY LEFT A VOICEMAIL LOL.

I WAS TRYING TO FINISH MY LATE SECONDARIES (IK IT'S MID OCT... I've got like 8 TMDSAS secondaries left...🥲) AT A PANERA BREAD 😭. I couldn't after, I did end up buying a nice dinner for the fam to celebrate LOL. I'm probably doxxing myself if the admin watch these threads, because I literally said on the phone I was at Panera trying to not full on sob from the happiness. I honestly expected an under 2-week turn around at the earliest because of some of the posts on here, and they said it takes 3-4 weeks to call after interview day. They said they'll send an official email this upcoming Tues/Wed, so hopefully it does happen because I'm mildly paranoid I dreamed this up lol.

This is literally my first and currently only interview invite because of how I submitted my primaries late and how my secondaries are still ... late, so it's definitely a weight off my shoulders. I will say my entire app fits their mission and values really well, and I felt like I vibed with my interviewer, and we wanted to continue the conversation after, so all of it definitely attributed to the really fast turnaround (both post-secondary ii and post-ii acceptance).

I'm in state, so I have no regrets going in person actually, and it made really see myself going there!! I did have family supporting me for the drive. I'm ngl, the exterior pics don't do the school justice, but the architecture is due to the historic JFK remembrance. I thought the facilities felt new and really liked their SIM labs. I was also impressed by the Dean's plans for UIWSOM. Leaving the school, I was afraid that I wouldn't get in because I realized I liked it a lot more than I expected and that I'd be happy to do med school in SATX and was worried I had a blind spot I didn't realize during interview because I felt (perhaps too) good afterward.

As for advice:
  • it's totally ok to be nervous! I def was and did do some mock interviews to prep, but that nervousness won't go away entirely till you're done. Once you get through the first question and keep talking, the time hopefully flies by. They do a good job of explicitly stating how the interview is to check if UIWSOM and you fit together, rather than trying to give you a hard time, and everyone I met faculty and interviewees were friendly - the school itself strives to be inclusive.
  • Know your app and experiences well. I didn't have to remember every single detail, but being able to talk about certain examples and stories of what you put on your primaries helps. Humanize what you did. Expect to answer the typical interview questions and talk about yourself, medicine, and your interest in the school. If you made it this far, I know your secondary answered why UIWSOM lol.
  • Remember your interviewer is human. The faculty who interviewed me was so warm and kind. I walked in with a goal of just trying to have a casual conversation and it goes easier that way rather than trying to memorize your answers to a script. I think I got lucky that we vibed, but I didn't see anyone come out unhappy so I think they're intentional with having less intense interviews. One of my physician mentors (who interviewed residents for the program he was in) told me it's better to be authentic because they can tell when you're giving an answer they expect to hear rather than what you believe.
  • It's also okay to pause and think as long as you say that's what you're doing. There were some behavioral questions where I was like oop I hope my yapping made logical sense, but we also worked through the prompt/discussed, and I brought up examples. Lowkey, if you're unsure about something you don't have to keep rambling - I think I was mindful to stick to an answer I felt was right, and then we built off of that starting point and worked through it. It's okay to let the interviewer hear you formulate your thoughts out loud.
  • Feel free to take notes during their presentations. I didn't bring a small journal, but those sessions were informative. I saw some others who did and sat there like that's smart, lol. Pay attention during, I mentally took notes during those because they were before anyone interviewed, so it helps to elaborate more on your interest in the school later on.
  • Try to eat a nice meal beforehand if you're in the afternoon session. I had packed lunch, but sitting down and eating hot food at a spot nearby instead eased the anxiety and temporarily made me mentally go food... yum LOL. It was also food that reminded me of home, so maybe plan something comforting.
  • Good luck y'all! I have radio silence from the rest of my schools, and it really takes ONE school to believe in you. I'm also objectively late with when the ones I did submit were complete, so you don't have to take my advice at all and do your own thing. The amount of pressure and anxiety I was feeling 3 days ago was immeasurable, and I don't see myself as better than anyone who hasn't heard back yet because it could still be me so easily... I was worried I'd have to reapply because my primaries got verified late Aug and mid Sept (my AMCAS primary isn't even in yet bc I didn't get around to completing it- though this gives me the confidence to do so). Everyone I talked to interviewing seemed like a great candidate to me, so if you've made it this far, try to keep that confidence going in. I also did meet reapplicants and some were also non-trads from previous careers, just know you wouldn't be there unless they really could see you there at the school and y'all impressed me more tbh.

Pre secondary R. I wasn't expecting it this quick (505, 3.8) but honestly I'm glad I didn't have to pay for a secondary and then get the rejection.
