Has anyone OOS gotten an interview or acceptance so far with a 500 or close to a 500 MCAT?

Does UIW have a "second look" type event for the accepted student?

can anyone explain the general layout of the in-person interview day? I have mine PM today but minus the timing, I don’t know what the day looks like besides the ‘30 minute trad 1-1 interview’

So my in-person interview day started with an hour long school presentation, which was then followed by 45 minute tour around the school campus and facilities. Then, I had my 30 minute with a faculty member. Finally, there was a Q/A student panel which lasted about hour.

So check-in: 1 pm
Check-out: around 5 pm

For anyone whose interview is coming up, I hope I can provide an ounce of comfort that I was desperately looking for before mine. Unfortunately, I cannot go into the specific questions or anything but all I can say is that please don't stress yourself out! I was literally shaking before going in but these are literally THE friendliest people I have ever met. I felt like my interviewers were family members and I never even meet them before that day. That just shows how welcoming they are. They know you are nervous and how high stakes this is for you - they've been in our exact shoes. Really just the most empathetic, caring, and down to earth people. It didn't even feel like an interview, mostly just super conversational, and I'm still a little shocked about how kind, collaborative, and humble the students and faculty are here. Dean Pham is absolutely amazing and you can tell how much he cares about student well-being and success. There are no trick questions, no crazy grilling, or anything that feels intimidating tbh. They're literally just trying to meet the PERSON behind the application they read - thats all. They are trying to identify if you are a good fit for their school, and their questions simply reflect this. Post my interview, I was talking to some of the other candidates and everyone seemed happy and relaxed so I'm assuming it goes well for most people. Really wish someone told me this before mine because I was absolutely petrified and my heart was pounding lol.

Another thing, I prepared so much for generic interview questions like "tell me about yourself" or "why med"... you know, just the typical questions you can expect to be asked in any medical school or even job interview. I literally did not say a single thing I had prepared, and I guess that just means sometimes over preparing isn't good. I felt a lot more comfortable answering honestly and spontaneously with whatever I felt in that exact moment. Is that a good thing? Idk I guess I will update y'all on whether or not I get in lol. Ofc, this approach might not be for everyone but still I felt good after doing this so I thought I'd share.

Idk if I'm going to get in, but honestly it would be a privilege to. I have not a single negative thing to say about this school, current students, staff, faculty, oppurtunites available, or my personal experience. My takeaway from interview day was that going to UIWSOM will not hinder you from becoming the kind of physician you want to be. They have all the resources, support, and oppurtunities for you to become anything from a PCP to a vascular surgeon. It comes down to your personal goals, motivation, resilience, ambition, hard work and most importantly, your work ethic.

Out of all my interviews, this experience was the best and is one for the books :) If you're interviewing here soon, be excited and proud of yourself for getting this far!!

Does anyone know if the preclinical exams will be switched to fully MC next year? I didn't get a clear idea on my interview day as it was my first interview of the whole cycle.

They hinted at it this past Friday during my interview, so hopefully haha

For anyone that interviewed, do you remember where to send thank you notes and what format they prefer? I unfortunately forgot to write it down as they mentioned it really briefly.

[email protected]

They want it within a few days of ur interview since they begin reviewing really quick. I think pdf work, at least that’s what I’ve been doing for thank you notes

I just sent them a thank you email to dod-email address. They said they’ll forward them to the appropriate party and added my note to my files.

Not sure exactly what you mean by in-house content as ultimately everything we learn is helping prepare us for boards, but exams are written by the faculty and there is material you are expected to know beyond what you will find in board-prep materials.

If your asking strictly about the style of test taking there are clinical and lab portions beyond just multiple choice.

My friend just received an ii today, schools can send ii on weekends?
if you think about it, that might be a peaceful time in the admissions office when they are not expected to answer the phone all day, classes are not in session so faculty members of the admissions committee might be free to meet, and they can get some uninterrupted work done

Just got II yesterday, but looking at the available interview dates (I'm in state, so looking at in-person) the earliest date I saw was not until February 28th (after the TMDSAS Match). Wondering how that process works being after the official match date, I'm assuming I'd be in the general rolling admissions pool? I didn't realize TX Schools would even really be continuing to conduct interviews after the Match date anyway? Any thoughts on this would be great!

UIWSOM is a private DO school which uses the AACOMAS application system.
As such it is not part of the TMDSAS Match and they may continue interviewing until they have filled their class.
If you also match to a TMDSAS school on Feb 14 you will have some decisions to make

Oops. Lost track of reality for a minute there and forget this school was not on TMDSAS! Thanks for this response, though!

Yeah that made me sit up too, I didn't think 11/8 interviews would be hearing back till next week:nailbiting:
I know this is nerve wracking, as I was in your shoes a month ago. But, no need to worry, some of my friend received the call within couple of days post interviews and some received the call 3-4 weeks after interviews. I received mine a month post interview. I hope this helps ease the nerve a bit ❤️

I completely agree. My caller was also my interviewer and he did mention I’d get the email alongside everyone else later in the week so I think I got the call early due to some interviewers/the dean enjoy giving good news. I wouldn’t look into it too much so don’t worry if you haven’t gotten anything yet.

Check their deadlines for submission of the primary app (this school uses AACOMAS).
Have you already applied to other AACOMAS schools?
